We had a few requests through Booking.com, and Masuma responded very quickly and positively, providing us with great assistance. Similarly, when we visited the reception, the gentleman on the morning shift was incredibly kind and attended to every request immediately. I can truly say he is very professional. Being in the same industry, you can somewhat understand the level of service he provided.

The room was really clean. The hotel is very reliable, although some rooms do not have private bathrooms; instead, there are shared bathrooms on the floors. Nevertheless, they were exceptionally clean. The housekeeping service works very well and keeps everything orderly. No any elevater just note down.

If you need an iron, ironing board, or a hairdryer, you can borrow them from the front desk—very convenient if you need to freshen up.

We really enjoyed the hotel. Its location is definitely safer compared to other areas in downtown LA. There are a few nice coffee shops and pubs nearby, as well as an Asian market very close by.

We are genuinely very satisfied. Special thanks to Masuma we really appreciate his help. We hope to see you again on our next LA adventure.

Needed a room for the night because I partied too hard. Great stay. Great location. Great service. Great price. Only negative is the shared bathroom down the hall.

Really cozy and spacious room in a great area. Only issue was it seems there was zero soundproofing so I could hear my neighbors talking and watching tv all night, along with the sound from the street

This place was a perfect place to stay for my visit to LA. I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg, and I also needed a place that was walkable from Union Station since I came from out of state on the Amtrak.
The rooms are well furnished, clean, and comfortable with modern amenities. There was even room food service. Also, it wasn’t an issue for me, but people should be aware there are no elevators- I was on the 4th floor. Even just to get to the office requires ascending a flight of stairs. And yes, the bathrooms are communal (men and women’s) but they were always impeccably clean and I never actually saw anyone in them other than myself. There was also what I would call a “family bathroom” available to use.
The hotel is located in a unique area of town kind of close to Little Tokyo- its easy walking distance to downtown to go places like The Broad, Grand Central Market, and other common downtown points of interest. It’s definitely not a “bad” or dangerous area, but it is an area that is receiving investment to improve. Right across the street from the hotel is a group of newish restaurants with really nice patio areas. This little strip drew a decent crowd and was fun to hang out at. The area hosted a really neat eclectic group of folks. I walked everywhere and never felt unsafe. For those concerned about safety: I was at the coffee shop attached to the same building as the hotel and saw mothers pushing strollers with their kids, professionally dressed office workers. No one was on edge or shady.
The only reason a took off one star in the service section was because the office/desk hours were very limited, you can’t just walk in the lobby and check in or drop your bag off. I arrived about 8am hoping to drop my bag off until it was time to check in, door is locked so I called. I was curtly told to call back at 9am. I waited til 930 and called again. This time I was told no one would be there till around 11. I went and checked out some stuff around downtown (carrying my bags) until about 1pm, at which point there was someone in the office. He was really friendly and helpful and never had any issues after that.
Now this hotel is probably not for everyone. I came as a solo male traveler with a decent amount of experience backpacking around the world. I thought this place was great- it kind of reminded me of traveling in some older parts of Europe (common bathrooms, no traditional 24/7 front desk, have to be buzzed in, use actual room keys rather than cards, etc). For the price and location you can’t beat it. I would definitely come here again.

We travel with our 3 year old and the area seemed sketchy, but we never felt unsafe. There's a small corner store right next door which is very convenient.
We were also worried about the shared bathrooms, but it was no issue at all
.we stayed a whole weekend and showered daily and never had to wait for a shower or a restroom.
Everything was very clean.
They don't offer daily room service, but if you need it you can simply request it, which is awesome if you like your privacy.
The customer service was STELLAR, there was a cleaning lady who was helpful and nice to my baby, and the front desk woman named Masuma was extremely helpful when I thought I had booked my room wrong, her kindness made a stressful situation much easier one me!

Extra info: the nearby tacos called "26ave" or something like that made me and my mom sick. There was a food truck called Chevillos which was delicious and much cleaner. There's a small corner store right next door with most stuff you may need.

Ok, it's downtown LA so the area isn't amazing, but we always felt safe day or night walking around here and over to Little Tokyo. The hotel itself is decent enough and good value for the price. The room was spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms were good too, there was one on each level that was private as well as ones with cubicles so it wasn't a problem sharing. They always seemed to get cleaned well too. Didn't have too many interactions with staff but those we did were good, let us check in early which after a 12-hour flight was amazing. Taps in the sinks in the bathrooms were a bit annoying because you couldn't control the temperature. When we return to LA we will probably stay in somewhere like Santa Monica, but can't complain for DT.

This venue was close to the event we were attending. The staff were friendly and did a great job of keeping the bathrooms and spaces clean. The manager Moises was extremely friendly and went out of his way to make our stay easy and enjoyable. The bed was comfortable and once we figured out how to work the A/C, got a good nights sleep.

Our stay at the American Hotel in the Art District of LA was not only budget-friendly but also accompanied by outstanding service. The hotel, clean and spacious, provided a wallet-friendly option in the heart of the arts scene. What made our experience even better was the friendly and helpful Masuma at the front desk. She went above and beyond, providing us with an early check-in, making our visit seamless and enjoyable. If you seek affordability coupled with top-notch service, the American Hotel, with its dedicated staff like Masuma, is a commendable choice. Highly recommended for a hassle-free stay in the heart of creativity.

We arrived around 8 a.m. Firstly we talked with Masuma she was so friendly. She told that we should wait till clock in hour but we can take a shower (restrooms common) we can put our backpacks to office etc. We felt really happy thanks to this hospitality. Then, in 10 mins she arrange our room and we checked in earlier. Also location is great because after subway we walked just 7-8 mins. Thank you for everything. You felt us like in our home!

OG izakaya spot and one of my favorites. Good food, ok service. Usually a wait but we'll worth it.

Try the ramen... Surprisingly good.

Sushi is ok. I'm sure it is fresh but there's so many other good options to choose from.

A little bit pricey for the portions, but the menu is expansive, food is really good and reasonably authentic. Service is prompt and attentive.

Food is alright. I have been here before and will visit again. The only thing that bothers me here is that most serving staff always seem to be unhappy! Other than that it's a big busy restaurant.

I don't know if they are the same owner but the Honda ya in OC is better. The skewers I don't taste the smokey flavor as I do at other izakaya places. We waited for a while and there were many empty tables and when we were seated there were still empty tables

Izakaya with true Japanese flavor and an enormous menu selection. Eating in the tatami mat room is pretty cozy and they will also validate your parking.

It was my first time having Korean BBQ and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They were very patient helping us decide what to eat and taught us how to use the grill. The food was delicious and we will definitely come back again for more.

This place serve delicious food is very clean looks elegant and is not that expensive we paid 72 for 3 person all you can eat( I hope this help) just get on the right Parkin area make sure is an structure with three or four leaves they validate your ticket at the restaurant for 3hours so you don't pay for parking and don't park at the one behind on the street like I did, they have a sing that say is convinient to the restaurant but they charge you on the spot do not use this one,
This restaurant is on the 3rd floor inside of the building in the corner (like a little mall) very nice have a good one guys

It's an alright place. The meat isn't the best quality
You can pay the same somewhere else and have more meat options. The best thing about this place is the buffet. All you can eat side dishes.!
23.11.2017 Noel
So many choices and all delicious! They have 2 different levels of their buffet that you can choose from. Black is the more expensive one and has the most choices to pick from. Gold is the next level down, but still good! For the little ones they charge by their height, 3-4 feet. Under 3 ft is free. Make sure not to have any waste or else they will charge you $5 per person.

Such Bad.. BAD service!! I never write reviews, but this can't go un mentioned!!
We were ignored the entire time we were here.. The staff member even caught our eye contact.. Knowing that we would like to place an order and still turned and walked away!!!
There was an outright disrespect from the server.
I spoke to the manager and her explanation was that they were short staffed and if we wanted better service to leave our table (mid way through service) and come back at 7.30pm note this was 6.30pm!!
Owner take note, your manager is the worst I've ever experienced.. What a joke!
DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!
