This is actually a motel, not a hotel. Don't be fooled by the name. The rooms are poorly soundproofed; you can easily walk into them from outside. The parking lot has no security and charges a fee, even if you ask. They say there's CCTV. The good thing is that this area is a resort area, so it's relatively safe, and the hotel is quite clean.

Staff was delightful, eager to help with anything we might need. Rooms were recently renovated, spacious and very cute. Just a block or so off the beach.

A hidden gem. The value for a hotel in the area is unbeatable. The rooms were recently updated as is the rest of the hotel. A block from the beach, can’t be beat! We would definitely stay again if we come back to La Jolla.

Great location near the La Jolla cove. Lots of nice restaurants nearby. Nice clean hotel. I would stay there again when I am visiting.

Staff very nice. Room clean but from the photo expected more than a run of the mill motel. And $15 fee for parking??? In front of the room???although bathroom cleaned after our first night bed was left unmade

We had a nice stay at the Shoal Hotel on this our second stay. The location is good for a walk around La Jolla.
We stayed over 4 days but unfortunately the stay was marred by the guest that stayed above our room. This person had a habit of shifting a suitcase or furniture on the floor above our room when we were trying to get some sleep. This happened on a second night between 2am and 4am which was particularly annoying. We understood that the reception was manned 24/7 but never found anybody in the reception area. When we mentioned this the next morning were told there was a phone number to call for 24/7 service of which we were unaware.
Other travellers would be advised to check the hotel out of hours contact details unless they encounter the same experience as us.
Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and the local amenities.

Perfect for the night
Very nice and simple. Worked great for the night. The staff was super friendly and the bed was comfortable. It has a good location for both parts of La Jolla. It’s not luxury but it is nice.

This hotel had everything we needed!! Perfect for a weekend getaway. Located in a great area with restaurants and beach walking distance away. We also loved the hot tub. Staff were also very nice and helpful

Well kept, recently remodeled. A little noisy but I slept well for the mist part. I spent a week there. I would go back.
