The Donatello in San Francisco

My family and I came here for a couple nights for the 4th of July. Parking at the hotel is very expensive, $57 a night. We know someone who lives in the area so we were able to leave our car with them. Upon check in, everyone was nice and got us checked in. We were asked if we needed help with our luggage but we didn’t have much. I like how the staff seem to always acknowledge me when I came down the elevator. They would smile, say hi, open the door. The room was large and the AC unit worked well. We were able to use the sauna and hot tub the first night and that was very nice. The hot tub is pretty small, luckily we had it all to ourselves. Leaving the hotel you really don’t need a car, everything is within walking distance. There is a good breakfast place right down the street. After the fireworks we had to walk back to the hotel late at night because Waymo and uber was not available. The area around the hotel at night can be pretty dangerous. We encountered people doing drugs on the street. Someone also followed us for a while and when he got close to me I moved to the side and watched him. I have no idea what he was trying to do, maybe snatch my purse. We let him go ahead then he stopped and waited for us to get ahead and followed us again. We kept looking at him so he left eventually. When we finally got to the hotel there was a staff that opened the door for us which was nice because it was almost midnight. I felt safer knowing someone was watching the door at night.

Large spacious room with a kitchenette and pull out couch. Ideal for a longer stay. We really enjoyed it and took advantage of the rooftop patio and happy hours several times during our stay.

The hotel is new with excellent heating and air conditioning. It's only a 5-minute walk from Union Square. The staff are very friendly. The only downside is that the main entrance isn't located directly in the hotel; you have to enter from the valet area. You need to ring the doorbell before check-in, and the front desk will open the door. Once you have your key card, you can swipe it to enter the hotel. There are many good restaurants nearby, and the ferry building is a 30-minute walk away.

AMAZING AMAZING

Great location near Union Square and public transport. Room is ideal for 2 adults and 1-2 younger kids. We booked quad share with 2 older kids and it was rather tight. The sofa bed wasn't ideal and somehow the advertised 37 sqm room felt squeezed. On the upside, hotel staff was very friendly and genuinely helpful. For the discounted rate I got from Trip.com, would book again.

Location: Perfect! Right next to Union Square, close to public transport and rental car office.
Guest room: Beautiful decor, clean and spacious. Kitchenette is handy.
Services: Staff were friendly and helpful.

Staff, rooms, cleanliness and location were exceptional.

This was my first time in San Francisco, and I had no prior information, but I booked about a month and a half in advance based on reviews. The location was decent, the room was clean, and it had a mini-kitchen, so it was perfect for getting takeout dinner when I got tired. It was a very comfortable stay. The staff were very kind and helpful, casually asking if I needed to use the restroom when checking in and out. The city was also very nice, so I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity.
