River Street Inn in Savannah

We had a wonderful stay at the River Street Inn. The service was top-notch; friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from check-in to check-out. The location is unbeatable, with everything we wanted to explore just steps away.

The room itself was a beautiful blend of historic charm and modern updates. We especially loved the architectural details and the stunning main stairwell; it felt like stepping into a piece of history. That said, the bed was very firm, which left us both a bit sore each morning. It’s the only reason we’re giving the room four stars instead of five.

Despite that, we’d absolutely stay again. The overall experience, ambiance, and proximity to everything made it a memorable visit.

Great location, close to everything. It is an old building so there was a definite old building smell. Otherwise it was a great stay. The people were amazing. The bed was comfy. I didn't upgrade to the balcony and I wish I would have!

We had a very lovely stay at the Inn for my birthday. Loved the vibe of the place.. felt kinda like Sherlock Holmes. The ladies at the front desk were super sweet and the room with the balcony and river view was super enjoyable. We will definitely stay here again.

If you love historic buildings, this place delivers. The River Street Inn dates back to around 1812 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, so it definitely exudes that old Savannah charm. One of the most Insta-worthy features is the open interior atrium in the center of the building, where you can look up (or better yet, look down) and see the historic staircases rising five stories — it’s a great visual and really sets the tone of the place.
A big plus is having multiple restaurants right in the building. There's Bernie’s Oyster House for seafood and oysters, Tubby’s Seafood for casual Southern and seafood dishes, and Café M for coffee, pastries, and lighter breakfast or snack options. Very convenient, especially after a long day of walking River Street.
If you can, book a room facing the river. The north-facing rooms overlook the Savannah River and offer a great view of the boats and river traffic. Those rooms also have a small standing balcony just big enough to step out onto, which is perfect for coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening while watching the river roll by.
The bathrooms were a pleasant surprise — modern, updated, and nicely done — although a few of the fixtures could use a bit of routine maintenance. Nothing major, just small things you notice during a stay.
The only other issues included the Wi-Fi, which was very spotty during our stay, going in and out frequently, plus it’s an open network without a password. It would feel more secure if a login or password were required to keep anyone on the street from having access to the network and our devices on it.
One more heads-up for sports fans: the hotel does not carry ESPN or ABC on their in-room TV channel lineup. If there’s a big game you want to watch, plan on heading out to a nearby bar or restaurant instead of watching from your room.
Overall, it’s a fantastic location within walking distance of all the restaurants, bars, parks, and destinations in the Historic Savannah District. The River Street Inn has tons of character and offers a true experience of real Savannah history.

This was our second stay at The River Street Inn. The hotel was very well located, the staff was exceptional, friendly and courteous, the rooms were beautifully decorated and the beds extremely comfortable. We dealt with Cassandra who was so welcoming and reserved the perfect rooms for our family, with Ivy at the front desk who checked us in and with Jessica who checked us out and made special request notes for our next upcoming reservation this month. The 3 of them made us feel so special and valued as guests and are a true asset to this hotel.

Hotel is very clean and tidy. Front desk people were very helpful in guiding us to local attractions. Will, the host at the manager's reception was great too.

The location is perfect if you want to be on the river. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. Happy hour (a real happy hour where the booze is free) is awesome! Customer service: I accidentally left my Bluetooth speaker in my room. After several phone calls to the hotel, I found the right person, and they returned my speaker by mail!!! Overall, a great experience. Can't wait to stay here again.

Clean, comfortable beds and pillows, great showers, and nice furniture in the rooms. The best location. I walked everywhere from my hotel room. The free happy hour for managers from 5 to 7 is a must! Free food and drinks. The bartenders make everything you want. Outdoor rocking chairs overlooking the river! I will definitely come back and stay here only if I'm in Savannah!

American style, good location

Great location, free happy hour drinks and snacks as well as afternoon treats in the lobby. Reception was not very friendly.
