Menger Hotel in San Antonio

Excellent location in the city center

The location is excellent, and you can easily walk to anywhere.
The room wasn't very spacious, but it was clean, cute, and had a great atmosphere.
The courtyard and lobby were also very charming, and I would have loved to sit there all day if I had the time.
However, while there was shampoo, there was no conditioner, so I recommend bringing your own.

Easy booking and close to many fun things to do.

I've stayed at the Menger twice during the last year. The history is thick here, whether you spend time in the lobby looking at the old pictures, the guest registry from the 1800s, or you head to the bar for the Teddy Roosevelt connection. We are blessed to have these places where history happened.

I stayed four days for a conference being held at the Convention Center, which is a 7 to 10 minute walk from the hotel. Rates here were about half of the conference hotel rates, and I used the rate that included valet parking (Grace at the valet station was quick to retrieve my car and offer to help with my luggage).

My room was clean and well maintained. Housekeeping was provided daily upon request. Free coffee was available in the lobby each morning. My room rate (booked through the hotel) also included 2 free drinks at the Menger Bar, allowing me to experience the cool history there for free. The bartenders were friendly and happy to share stories about the history of the bar.

The construction next door in the Alamo Plaza was in progress but clearly has an end in sight, as they were planting large trees and pouring concrete during my stay in September 2024. Even with the construction next door, this place is a gem and I really enjoyed my stay!

The Menger is currently undergoing construction outside of it so be aware of the extra noise (bring sound machines). We stayed in the presidential suite. It had three balconies but no chairs to sit on in the balconies. They give you two free drink vouchers when you check in. The location is right next to the mall which is super convenient. Beware of the information desk at the mall is really people selling time shares! The Alamo is also right outside the hotel, you can visit for free (or pay for extra things). If you are sensitive to smells DO NOT stay at the Menger, they pump a very strong scent throughout their entire hotel (all rooms included), I have altered smell from Covid and this is STRONG! They sell the scent they are pumping through at the front desk. The hotel has a lot of charm, I would research all the rooms before staying as they have so much character and many are original rooms.

I had an unforgettable experience at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio. The hotel’s rich history and timeless charm made my stay truly special. My room was beautifully maintained, blending historic elegance with modern comforts. The location couldn’t be better—right next to the Alamo and within walking distance of the River Walk. I also loved the beautiful courtyard and the historic bar, a perfect spot to unwind. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting San Antonio!

It was a spur of the moment stay at this hotel and we loved it. The haunted history behind it was fascinating. An elegant, old world hotel. Rooms were comfy and well kept. The bar area was fantastic along with the staff. The breakfast buffet was worth every penny. I made myself sick by eating so much. Everything was delicious. Would definitely stay again.

So-so, too old.
