The hotel definitely has a convenient side to it, but the room itself left quite a bit to be desired.

The first thing I noticed was the smell. Since the hotel sits above a pub, there was a constant pub-like scent lingering through the hallways and even inside the room. Some people might not mind it, but personally it made the space feel less fresh. The carpet also looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned in ages, and it gave the room a worn, slightly grimy feeling. I also noticed stains on the quilt, which wasn’t exactly the best impression when settling in for the night.

That said, I can see why people stay here for convenience. Having the pub downstairs actually came in handy when I didn’t feel like going out again for food, and there are plenty of dining options nearby too. One of the best parts was how close it is to the tram stop—it made getting around Melbourne really easy without needing to rely on rideshares.

I had only positive memories of the hotel; I would love to stay there again. It's ideally located and has excellent transport links, clean, and comfortable. I also liked that the hotel building is old and warm.

Solo business travel. Note that 5 star rating is for the price range - not a 5 star hotel as such.
Pros: Rooms are very clean, although small. Bed very comfortable and quiet place considering there's a pub and restaurant downstairs. Convenient eateries and right across the road from 96 tram. Downstairs pub and restaurant food selection is awesome.
Cons: There's no lifts and stairs narrow (original features - well maintained) so not suitable for kids / prams.

Room 207 was very good and it would have been even better if it had a toaster and some knives and forks. The hotel staff are terrific.

Comfortable rooms and good showers. There is no lift, and the stairs are quite steep, esp if you are on the second floor. Nice to have a nespresso machine in the room, although we had to ask for refills. No breakfast, but two good breakfast places a few steps away from the hotel. Food in the evening was good, and large outside space for a drink/food.

A lovely intimate property, nicely appointed rooms located in a very nice neighbor with good restaurants nearby. The staff is gracious and accommodating. Good price point, thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Amazing spot to stay in Melbourne! Super easy to navigate with the trains! The parking was easy and plenty! Grocery store around the corner and lots of restaurant!

Beach is just down the street and we loved the town and the neighborhood!

Room had complimentary tea, coffee, and bottled water. A good size room with large towels and nice washroom and shower. Close to where we needed to be near St Kilda. Lots of street parking around.
