Shangri-La Yuanqu, Suzhou in Suzhou

My 3 star is mainly for the service and food quality in their breakfast buffet restaurant. I stayed over the weekend and there were tons of guests having breakfasts. I noticed the servers were just walking around but not paying attention to the tables that had bowls and plates piled up, not clearing them fast enough. There are two dispensers for black tea and green tea, the table top was forever wet and nobody wiped it down. Hot food like plain congee and millet congee were in smaller pots that didn’t retain the heat, only luke warm which didn’t taste good at all. I wanted to try their bread pudding yesterday but it looked like somebody just tossed the remains from an old dish on the new one, it was disgusting. Whenever items ran out, had to wait for a while for it to be refilled. Should somebody be checking frequently? Also, with the caliber of a Shangri-La brand, cloth napkins should be a no brainer but guests have to ask for them. Why?
Today is Monday, fewer guests and when we walked in, an employee in grey jacket walked towards the entrance, didn’t say good morning nor welcome, just walked straight past us. Seriously? A senior employee in the restaurant has that kinda attitude? No wonder the servers are glued to their phones when they think there’s nothing to do.
This particular restaurant lacks proper training for their employees, it’s a shame that I have to give a 3 star to this restaurant. I love all the Shangri-La breakfast buffets but this one turned me off so bad that I will never stay in this Suzhou location again.
The best employee we met is the lady who cleans our room, she’s courteous and jolly with a big smile. Front Desk is alright, Concierge, polite but not a lot of smiles.
