Hotel Wine Palace in Tbilisi I dom’t recommend Upon arrival, we were greeted by what seemed to be the owner, who told us about the history of the hotel and that the interior was designed by a contemporary Georgian artist. We were also invited to a wine tasting from their family winery, which I appreciated. The whole hotel is hand-painted, with “wine-themed frescos” on the walls. The materials used for the interiors – stone, wood, railings – are of good quality, and the design is clearly the owner’s vision, quite original. Unfortunately, the reality of the stay was disappointing. The hotel is only 8 years old but looks as though it hasn’t been renovated in decades. The murals and interiors, which could have been a highlight, instead create a very dark and oppressive atmosphere. In the bathroom, there was mold, especially in the shower. The shower itself, the mirror, and drawers were dirty. From the toilet drainpipe, liquid was leaking onto the bathroom floor, creating a strong smell that spread even into the room. Towels and bed linen had large holes, which is shocking for a four-star hotel. Breakfast offered a very limited selection. Coffee was not served. On the second day, the selection was even poorer – no fruit, no vegetables, not even water. To make matters worse, the staff unpleasantly insisted that we clear our own dishes after breakfast. Ladies, if you are traveling without a man, I would advise keeping some distance from the owner. The hotel’s narrow access road and surrounding area looked more like a slum, and I would not feel safe walking there at night. It is disappointing, because with a four-star rating and a 9.4 score, we expected a completely different level of service and cleanliness. The interior design may appeal to some tastes, but in its current state, this hotel does not live up to either its category or its rating.
