Happy Hotel Berlin in Berlin

You'll pay exactly for what you get. Quite cheap room with no particular equipment, but beds were absolutely on and cleanliness was ok for both the room and the (private) bathroom that we had. The place is very close to the subway and close to supermarket and couple of restaurants and bar. You can also safety store your luggage before the check-in for free, the service was ok. Summarizing is a cheap solution with no particular comfort but almost everything you really need

Fair price for what you get. Even though provided linens the used pillows and mattress could use a replacement. Also the bunks squek at night. If you have a roommate that likes to get up in the night it makes for a rough sleep. Location is great as close to two metros and some nice bakeries.

It gets loud at nights! To close the door you kinda have to slam it so you can't avoid the noise, and people talk (loud) in the corridors until late at night.
Go there only if you are comfortable with public transport in Berlin or if you are sticking to the area around the hotel. Between the hotel and the tourist are you will have 2 changes to do. As long as you understand how the public transit system works you should be ok (about 20-25min total).
Good place for a quick night, it's clean and functional, bathroom is tiny but works well. The receptionist was very nice and helpful.
You get the basic stuff if you choose a private room with private bathroom: small single bed, soap, toilet paper, towel.

Solo female in mixed dorm
I stayed in a mixed dorm - the cheapest option. It was fine, though unfortunately I only had boy roomates, and as a solo female traveller, that made me a little uncomfortable, but I knew the risk when choosing a mixed dorm (female only wasn't available).

Our shared toilet smelt like pee from the day I first arrived and till I left, which wasn't exactly a pleasent experience, but soap and toilet paper was always available. Beds were clean, but the rest of the room was quite dirty. In the mornings we had a simple but fulfilling breakfast.

Locationwise it's awesome as the nearest bus stop is just 4 minutes away, and if you're fine with walking there are lots of cool smaller places on your way to Mitte, or wherever you may be going :)

I'd definitely recommend getting a female only dorm for any solo female travellers out there. I think the couple euros extra it would cost is worth it.
