Description

Saga Studios by Heimaleiga is a 3-star accommodation in Reykjavik offering a range of studios and one-bedroom studios, some with balconies. The property operates with a 24-hour front desk and provides free parking and WiFi. Pets are not allowed despite the general services listing. The rooms vary from standard studios to deluxe options, including basement studios and double studios. Guests have praised the spaciousness compared to typical hotel rooms, with some units featuring balconies and large bathrooms. The building includes a lift for upper floors. Check-in is mostly key code based, with codes sent before arrival. Rooms come without daily housekeeping, so guests should be prepared to clean themselves. Some reviews note limited kitchen equipment and occasional issues with door codes or apartment lighting, especially in basement units. The property was rated 8.7/10 overall, with cleanliness, amenities, location, and service all scoring 8/10.

Location

Situated at Barónsstígur 28 in Reykjavik, Saga Studios by Heimaleiga is just 1 km from Reykjavik Domestic Airport (RKV). The hotel is close to major bus stops (#9 and #11), providing easy access to city center and airport buses. Nearby dining options within 200 to 370 meters include Eldsmiðjan (173 m, rated 8/10), Argentina Steakhouse (206 m), and Rossopomodoro (369 m), all offering various cuisines. The location is convenient for walking to downtown Reykjavik landmarks such as Hallgrimskirkja Church and the main shopping street, both within approximately 5 to 6 minutes on foot.

Tips

  • If you book a basement studio, be prepared for less natural light and bring any cooking utensils you need as kitchen equipment can be limited.

Aside for a bit of problems with the door code, handle and the battery that left me waiting outside for a bit I can not fault anyone. The staff via WhatsApp , phone and the guy that repaired my door were kind and polite. The room was not spotless but nothing to complain about. The room, the area, the view was great! Just a suggestion...if you leave some cleaning products and accessories ( broom, mop, etc.) it would make it easier to keep the room even cleaner as there is no service available. Overall i enjoyed my stay and would definitely suggest to others. P. S. A small microwave would also help.😉

What a wonderfully cozy place! I stayed for 3 nights, and the check-in and check-out process was super smooth, with codes sent via email the day before arrival. It was clean and fresh, and the bed was really comfortable. The location is great, close to both the airport bus and the city center. Honestly, there's nothing to complain about. I'd definitely consider staying here again on my next trip back to my favorite island 😃🇮🇸!

This is a great option in Reykjavik--the location is wonderful and the price is quite reasonable, especially since you get a lot more space than in a normal hotel room. Our top-floor unit (reachable by elevator!) had a small balcony and a big bathroom with a good shower. In July it was light all night, of course, but there were good blinds on the windows for sleeping. We didn't use the kitchen for cooking, but it's reasonably well equipped (no freezer), with good coffee and tea facilities.

New years in Reykjavik
We spent 2 nights here over new years. The check in was easy and location is very convenient for walking around the city. No issues getting parking.
The apartment is quite cozy. The only complaint we had was the pull out sofa. If as very uncomfortable and hard for my children to sleep on. Maybe would be ok for a smaller child but that would be it. Other than that we had a great stay

though we choose queen bed, we were give two single beds

DO NOT STAY HERE - poor hygiene and poor service. Studio apartment had a significant and unbearable smell of sewage and fish coming from the drain. Please note this was not the usual sulphur smell you would expect from Iceland, and unlike any smell we experienced in the five other hotels and airbnbs during our stay. The drain was left open in the bathroom alongside all windows when we arrived suggesting the providers knew of the problem but did not share prior to our arrival. We contacted the team and were repeatedly told that is was usual - if this is the case this is not a safe place to stay in Iceland. We were forced to spend time elsewhere at a cost. Unfortunately Saga Studios by Heimaleiga refused to offer any compensation.

Great stay. Very convenient and close to all activities. Parking can be a hassle as there is no dedicated spot - people living around the building seem a bit testy about renters. Our entry code was sent to us ahead of time but was not ‘initiated’ so did not work - had to call and get a new one impromptu. A bit unexpected.

The apt was well located, but we thought we were going to get an apt on the top of the building instead of the one in the basement. They should offer discounts if somebody books this one, which was not mentioned in the advertisement. The one in the basement did not have enough light, microwave was missing, no wardrobe to leave the clothes, sofa seat cushions were not stable (they were moving when seating). A shelf is needed in the kitchen so that we can connect the electric appliances in the only plug. The interior of the apt could be much improve with these features

Very well telephon supported by Maria when arriving. The apoartment is complet! You find every thing you may need. Wifi works bery good! Very well placed. You reach the most places in down town walking!!! More informations could be available by the owners to income gasts, such as: Supermarkt, there os a 1011 three blocks away!! Licqour story. City Maps. Excurtions Flyers. Price is a little to high. In general it is a good choise!!!!

Excellent location near the city center. Clean. The bathroom was spacious and functional. The bedding was in good condition. Surprisingly bright despite its basement location, thanks to the good-sized windows. Felt very secure with access codes sent just before check-in. Excellent Wi-Fi connection. The only minor drawback was a lack of kitchen equipment. For example, there was only one small spoon and one saucepan, yet two corkscrews! However, this is easily rectifiable and doesn't detract from the overall quality of the accommodation.

I had 2 pizzas in this town. First one was in "No name pizza" place, and that one was outstanding. In this pizzeria it was just normal, good pizza. So it is safe to visit. But... It is just normal...

Delicious wood fired pizza (you can see the pizza oven in the kitchen). Medium pizza was plenty for 1 person and reasonably priced compared to internationally well known pizza chains. Free fizzy drink refills. Staff are friendly and helpful. Only in Reykjavik for 4 nights, but having tried a few other restaurants here, we've decided to return to Eldsmidjan for our final night evening meal.

Best pizza we've had! Staff friendly, fast service and great tasting pizza, highly reccomend. Well worth it and get more than your moneys worth

This pizza spot is right on the main shopping street in downtown Reykjavik. Nice beer selection and laid back atmosphere. My only negative comment here is the sauce. Very basic with very little flavor. Crust was excellent.
21.06.2017 Richard
Summary based on one dinner:
-very good pizza, easily comparable to just about any expectation
-service upstairs friendly, but can be a bit slow when busy, which is understandable. We didn't have to wait for seating.
-medium sized is good for dinner, perhaps small. We mistakenly got a large & a medium after ordering two mediums and had enough for another dinner the next night. Take away box provided and we weren't charged extra for the large.
-typical prices for this area
-credit cards accepted
-didn't ask about wifi
-parking wasn't an issue since we walked

Excellent lobster soup, tasty porterhouse steak cooked to perfection. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. Ambient could benefit from some improvements.

Food was good, service was good, prices were as expected. Food prices in Iceland are very high compared to other countries, especially for beef. This premium steakhouse is no exception.

The service was pretty good compared to other restaurants I visited in Iceland.

Nothing about my experience was bad, but this isn't a *MUST GO* restaurant for tourists in Iceland.

Try the ravioli. Very good. Order a pizza to go. The quantity is so less you would feel hungry soon.

F**ing disgusting. We were sitting next to the pizza maker. The heaters where behind us. The waiter then dropped our childrens pizza right in front of us, told us that they would make another one. The waiter put the pizza RIGHT ON THE HEATER BEHIND US. Then a few moments later he brought it back to us. Claiming it was a new one.

Ok food, better to spend a bit more and get amazing food somewhere else
