Reviews
I do not recommend staying at Iceland Comfort Apartments by Heimaleiga. Our experience was extremely disappointing and included serious issues that future guests should be aware of.
First, the condition of the unit was unacceptable. When we checked in, the kitchen and bathroom both smelled strongly of sewer. On top of that, the room was not properly cleaned. After a long flight and being exhausted, this was the last thing we expected—especially after waiting six hours to access the room.
We arrived early and requested early check-in multiple times. We were told the previous guest had checked out at 10:00 AM and that housekeeping needed time to clean the room. Despite us waiting from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the parking lot, they made no effort to prioritize our room. At around 1:30 PM, they finally called to say we could check in early only if we paid 45 euros, even though the room was clearly not cleaned to an acceptable standard.
However, the biggest issue—and the reason I strongly caution future travelers—came after we checked out. A few hours later, we received a message accusing us of leaving the room “very dirty” and demanding an additional 60 euros in cleaning fees. This made no sense: we did not wear shoes inside, we washed our dishes, and we took out the trash before leaving.
When we called to dispute the charge, the property insisted they had “evidence” and said they would send photos and a payment link. Once we received the photos, it was immediately clear that the images were not even from our room. Despite this, they asked us to prove that the room in the photos wasn’t ours.
Fortunately, my friend had taken a video of our actual room to send to his family, and we used that video as proof. Only then did the property manager respond, admitting it was a mistake and apologizing. Without that video, we likely would have been charged the extra 60 euros for damage or mess we did not cause.
This incident felt extremely unprofessional and borderline predatory, especially toward travelers who may not have evidence to defend themselves.
Overall:
– Strong sewer smell in the unit
– Poorly cleaned room
– Six-hour wait for early check-in despite repeated requests
– Attempted charge for damage/cleaning with photos from another room
– Only resolved after we provided video proof
Be very cautious if you decide to stay here. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this property.
We got into our room and I immediately noticed it was super loud and scorching hot. This is Iceland where the outside temperature is 15 degrees, so why is is 30+ degrees in the room? Oh, somebody left the radiator on full blast. OK no problem, turn it off. Leave the window open to air it out after dropping off our bags, let it cool off. Come back 6 hours later, it's in the exact same state. Try to close the window so it's quiet and "soundproof" (claimed in the room booking description), but nope the window literally can't close. Shove in earplugs to try to drown out the noise so we can sleep because we're dead tired, but surprise, we're right beside the highway so it's constantly noisy. Also the room description said we would have a double bed, but we actually had two single beds pushed together, which of course is very uncomfortable for a married couple.
So I emailed the management company and asked them to fix all of these things or move us to another room, and they essentially told me "We're sorry, but you're out of luck. We can't do anything."
So maybe if you get lucky and get a nice room and don't need any assistance it might be ok... But we had a terrible time. Stay at your own risk.
The room was not clean, smelled so bad, tiles were missing at the door, door was hard to close, window shades bars are broken, beds were very uncomfortable, no clean towels, complained about the smell via email only because no one was there to talk to, no room service or any attendant, they sent air freshener few hours later
