Hotel Califfo in Quartu Sant Elena

When we arrived at Hotel Califfo the receptionist was pleasant enough, despite our late arrival. However, that’s about the only good thing about this place. The location is far away from any nicer restaurants, which was poor research on our part. The largest issue was the cleanliness, the room was downright disgusting and I think at best the bed was made and th toiletries replaced. Drywall plaster shavings on the floor, dirt/grim on coverlet, blood oj the pillow case and ants on the floor. Beyond the cleanliness the rooms are dated, beds uncomfortable and they give you two very thin pillows. We booked for three nights and with no where else to go at 10:30pm we stayed one night and left to an Air BNB in the morning. If you are trying to have a nice holiday, do not stay here - its absolutely not worth it.

Hotel Califfo was a nightmare, realized. The front desk staff were pleasant enough, however, that is where the positive experiences end.

Firstly, we did not do enough research and we failed to realize that there is little to do near the hotel. I wouldn’t recommend the location unless you are driving, otherwise you’ll be at the mercy of the bus (which isn’t bad but limits flexibility)

Now onto the hotel itself, the mixed bag of reviews made us hopeful that there were just a few picky travellers. However, once we got into the room we noticed that there was no way this was a 4 star hotel. Outside our room there was a drip from the hallway ceiling. When we entered our room we immediately noticed the bedding appeared dirty (see pictures), with one pillow even having blood on it. From there we looked around the room and found many other signs that the room was dirty. Then, ants! We had to stay for the one evening as it was past 10 pm and we had no where else to go but left swiftly in the morning. You should absolutely spend your money elsewhere and enjoy your vacation somewhere cleaner and close to amenities. I am convinced the 5 star reviews are fraudulent as there was nothing 5-star about this hotel. We will be trying to get our money back, ASAP!

Definitely shouldn't have 4 stars.
Rooms poorly equipped- no kettle nor tea like most hotels do, no information about reception numbers. No wifi in my part of the hotel - receptionist said they are "working on it" but it was poorly executed lie, plus according to other reviews there was no wifi for months. Food during dinner: fish fillet and fries looked like from frozen isle in supermarket. On top of that reception and bar staff have questionable attitudes.
The photos on there are highly curated.
The only reason it's not 1* cause despite all that it was actually clean. Seems like the cleaning crew is the only working as supposed to - gave them little € tip.
