Good vibe and very authentic Japanese ryokan. Never get thirsty with soda/beer machines everywhere freeflow during the day, never get hungry with afternoon oden, traditional many dishes kaiseki dinner, midnight supper and western/japanese breakfast. Offered both public and private onsen, relaxing to the max.

Super cool town loads to walk around, staff were great, the man is really good. They also had a midnight noodle bar.

Had a great stay with dinner and breakfast included. It's a very atmospheric place with a charming old-world feel. Dinner was just okay, but breakfast was really good. The interior decor is beautiful.

Enjoyed the stay so much! The room is cozy with tradition modern Japanese design. End the night and start the day with private onsen, great experience.

Check-in staff can only speak little English, using translations tool makes everything so well.

The breakfast wasn't great. The ambiance, though, was lovely. You absolutely *must* try the peach-flavored popsicle! I'm not sure why milk wasn't available. The hot springs were just okay. However, the scenery was truly beautiful.

I was initially concerned that the rooms might be a bit dated before checking in, but those worries completely disappeared once I arrived. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. I won't share photos of the public areas as many others already have, but here are some room photos (P1-3). P4 shows the truly beautiful view from my room – you can see bamboo shadows, a flowing stream, and a charming bridge. The hotel service was excellent too. My only regret was not choosing the dinner-inclusive package; adding it on arrival cost 9500 JPY per person, which wasn't as good value as booking it in advance. I had breakfast, which was quite good, and the main dining area was absolutely beautiful. After 10 PM, the hotel even offers complimentary Chinese-style soy sauce ramen, which was surprisingly delicious. P5 illustrates the layout of the Mizunouta rooms. I noticed that rooms 106-108 would have poor privacy, as guests passing over the suspension bridge could easily see into them. I was assigned room 104. While checking out in the morning, I also managed to snap a photo of room 105 (P5), which looked equally appealing.

Our room was a bit of a walk from the main area, but it was sparkling new. It came with a private in-room onsen, and there were also public baths, plus additional private reservable options. The 'Star' and 'Moon' themed baths were quite good, but having our own private bath in the room was the absolute best. For dinner, we were served exquisite Kaiseki cuisine, and breakfast offered a choice between Japanese and Western styles. The shops along the onsen street tend to open quite late and close relatively early. The location is great, not far from the Bamboo Forest Path and Shuzenji Temple.

This is a really great, traditional Japanese ryokan. However, for some reason, the staff didn't help us with our luggage to our room, which meant we didn't experience the 'Japanese service' we had expected. I'd recommend skipping dinner as it wasn't good.
