2 star hotel, 5 star service. Quaint hotel with 80s decor run by a very nice Japanese couple and their son who speaks good English. Rooms are BIG even for American standards. The private 2br rooms have their own kotatsu, living room, kitchen, baths, and toilets. The massive room is 2 rooms joined together and can fit 5 adults sleeping on futons. Japanese breakfast is prepared upon request and is cooked by the owners, giving it a very warm and cozy feel.
Hotel is located 10 mins walk from the bus stop and akakura onsen ski resort. Most bars and restaurants are within a 10 min walk radius.
Will definitely stay with them again if I visit Akakura.

We stayed in Star Hotel Akakura in December and had a very comfortable stay there. It may not look impressive as it’s not a new hotel but the room is so spacious for two and has the classic Japanese table warmer. They also got a small onsen, perfect for 1-2 users but may get embarrassed if more than 3. The water is really hot but you will get used to it.
The owners do not speak English very well but they are very welcoming and helped us with discounted ticket purchase and snowboard delivery via Yamato. They even offered us a drive to the station during check out and it helped us so much.
Highly recommended for those who are looking for an affordable and comfy stay.

We had a great stay at this hotel! There was a massive storm and we were stuck at a further train station, and the owner was able to pick up our large group and drive us to the hotel. The hotel was clean and quiet, and the location was close to the ski resort and to everything in town. I would happily stay again!

We came in February to go skiing. There was a ton of snow so the local train couldn’t go to Myoko and we got stuck at the stop before. The owner was so incredibly nice and came to pick us up in a van with an extra truck for our luggage. The rooms were clean and the heaters are so nice. The bathrooms were also very clean and the toilets were wonderful. The hotel gave us a discount for lift tickets. It was really close to the slopes and where we rented our skis. Also at the top of Main Street, so everything was very close and it had a beautiful view. I couldn’t recommend this place more. Wonderful service and so clean and comfortable!

It may be summer, the off-season, but the staff and facilities seem unmotivated, and the prices are high for what they are.

Only the couple managing the property, doing all rooms and check in and dining. So be patient. Even they might not know much English they still provide great service and try to accommodate your needs.
Nice restaurants and convenient store around though most close early. Walking distance to the Akakura Obsen Ski area.

This hotel was recommended to us by a friend and it didn't disappoint. Centrally located (you can literally walk to the Akakura onsen ski area in 5 mins), the rooms are spacious by Japanese standards and comfortable with a lovely view of the Akakura onsen area. It is family owned and service is great - filling breakfast served with a smile and we were picked up and dropped off to Myoko Kogen station which was very handy. They even gave us some complimentary warm cans of tea/coffee when we left. The onsen was lovely after a day of skiing (it is public and gender separated but in the steam you don't see much lol) Their lift passes were cheaper than RRP. The hotel is a bit dated but great value compared to nearby places.

A nice spot with character, the family that run the place are extremely helpful and made our stay great. The shuttle bus to the ski lifts stops close by. Highly recommend for anyone hitting the slopes.

Great service and can speak fair amount of English. It may be an older building but the service and room was nice. I plan to go back in the winter time and see the true potential of the hotel.
