We stayed at El Mayo during our time in Hakuba and that place is awesome, simple and you have everything you need and its super quiet for a good rest. Location is perfect for shuttle bus to and from ski resorts and also short walk to restaurants and supermarkets. Owners are very nice people, they drove us to ski resorts every morning.
Highly recommend this place for a nice cosy stay in Hakuba.

Great stay. Hosts are very accommodating. Rooms are cosy, warm, big enough for all snowboarding and travel gear. Close proximity to restaurants in Echoland and easy walk to Happo One bus station and Echoland Spicy shuttle stop. No kettles or other amenities in room and attached bathroom is very small but doable. Would stay again.

Great location between ski fields and shops. Absolutely amazing service, the owners were very kind. We definitely recommend getting the breakfast package as it makes mornings easy and is wide ranging.

I echo everything said about hosts. . They run a tight little ship, and guests don't really want for anything (except a kettle). But they gave us a thermos of hot water anytime we asked. I want to point out that the onsen is maybe overlooked by many guests. The water is crystal clear and piping hot. You shouldn't omit it as the ultimate rejuvenator after a day on the slopes. What is lacking everywhere in Hakuba is restaurants, so the hotel breakfasts are much appreciated. These Japanese marvels are
8-10 items served including Natto! They kept us going all day.

We stayed at Hotel Mayo and the standout part of the experience was without question the owners. They are truly beautiful people who make you feel exceptionally welcome from the moment you arrive. They are incredibly warm, kind, and attentive, and it’s a real pleasure to stay somewhere where the hospitality feels so genuine and personal.

The property itself is old and a little tired, but it is kept spotlessly clean and very presentable, which is clearly a priority for them. Our room was nice enough but definitely aged and very basic, with limited amenities compared to more modern accommodation.

One downside was the heating, it was time-controlled rather than on-demand, and during winter conditions it wasn’t really adequate, which made the room feel colder than ideal at times.

Overall, this is a place you stay for the people rather than luxury. If you value heartfelt hospitality, cleanliness, and a welcoming atmosphere, Hotel Mayo delivers, just be aware that the building and facilities are quite dated.

We had an amazing stay at Hotel El Mayo. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were warm and cosy and the hotel was just a short walk from local restaurants and bars. The staff kindly dropped us at the bus stop when we needed. We used the drying room and laundry which were very convenient for us after a day on the slopes. Thank you for having us!

We stayed here for 3 nights for snowboarding. We were pleasantly surprised with no only the services offered at the hotel but also the extra services offered by the owners. They happily drove us back from the ski mountain and also to the bus stop. Service was 5 stars.

My favorites part was relaxing in the bath in the basement floor after a long day of snowboarding.
Thank you very much and I will come again!

P.s. the cats were very cute!

Really clean, neat accommodation a short walk from the slopes. The owners were so friendly and thoughtful, they were happy to drop us off around town!

Such a nice place.. so clean, as expected in Japan, but is still nice to stay in.
The hosts are amazing.. nothing is ever too much and even though the English is limited they can more than understand and try extremely hard to communicate.
It almost seems as though they feel bad when they ask you to pay for things!

Stay here!

This place was fantastic. Owners were very nice and very accommodating. Rides to Happo, Goryu and 47 we're all very appreciated. Onsen is small but feels great after a day of skiing.
