One of the best Japanese pension lodging It’s my 2nd visit, the last was 10 years ago The food kept me coming back The bread was sooo good
The accommodation is very beautiful, surrounded by nature, and exceptionally clean and well maintained. The bedroom features large glass windows that offer a lovely view of the trees. The bathroom, with an onsen-style bathtub, provides a truly wonderful and relaxing experience. The staff are very welcoming and kind. Dinner was beautifully presented and exquisitely delicious, featuring special techniques...
THE SPECIAL ATTENTION THEY GAVE US AT EVERY MOMENT, THEY WERE VERY AWARE OF US.
What a lovely inn, owned by a husband and wife team, is perfect for unplugging and just relaxing, whether by the wood burning stoves, on the porch or taking a walk in the park just down the hill. The inn is beautifully decorated in Japanese minimalist style which just calms the soul. I really appreciated the shared, private onsen and took advantage of it several times in the two days I was there....
Great and comfortable facility in a very quiet area. Breakfast was excellent
What an absolutely amazing property. Everything about this hotel is thought out and intentional, from the entrance to the lobby, the food to the music they play. This is the best of Japanese hospitality with western comforts. The property is very minimalistic in the best way possible. It is modern danish meets Japanese style set in a beautiful and quiet area outside of town. If your looking for a place...

I would definitely return. The staff is lovely, the cleanliness is impeccable, the place is beautiful, and the onsen they have is wonderful after days of hiking. It also comes with a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast. There's an area where you can help yourself to coffee and tea upon request, part of it is tatami-covered, with views of the garden, and it exudes a sense of tranquility. It's ...
A perfect, unique hotel in Takayama; we felt very comfortable. The private onsen is available daily for relaxation.
Had a great time overall. A quaint little hotel not far from the city center, offering a nice natural hot spring in the garden. I chose the best room on the top floor and was not disappointed; while simple it offered all the amenities required for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was ok for the type of hotel, and the staff was very kind and helpful. Nothing not to like here
Great service and great place to stay with family. Very near the train station and easy to get around the city.
It is very hard to find the hotel as no street light at all , hotel should install spot light at its sign. Hard to see in the dark even 7 :30 pm in Fall seasons. Room is good size, only bathroom very small. But overall is cleaned. Smooth check in and out. Only inconvenience is we have to choose specific time to use onsen and breakfast time. Since we check in kinda late, no choice left for us. Ended...
The location is far from the JR station and quite secluded. I couldn't reach the front desk without the access code, making it impossible to check in. I immediately contacted Ctrip for assistance, but while customer service was still being contacted, the guest inside came out and opened the door. When I reached the front desk, no one was there. The hotel is located next to Shin-Ping-Yu Onsen Station HO48. It's only one minute away from the bus stop. The store is well decorated, and I like the furnishings and decorations. The hotel has two public hot spring areas, one with indoor and one with outdoor pools. The temperatures of the two hot springs are acceptable. The hotter one is more comfortable to soak in. Initially we were slightly weirded out by the location as we arrived slightly before check in time and there was no one at the front desk or in the hotel. However, when we were finally checked in, we realised we were the only guests staying at the time and basically had all the onsens to ourself. Service by Tangerine was impeccable as she attended to our every need and even helped us with a discount...
This has to be highlight of my Japan trip. The location is exactly where you wish to be if you’re looking to be surrounded by mountains and the outdoor onsen sitting inside in it just make its worthwhile. Also I have to give shout out to Tangerina (I think thats her name) she was just lovely to talk and randomly asked her the fastest way to reach Fujikawaguchiko the next day as it was my next stop...
Great service, comfortable room
I stayed with my two-year-old daughter and stayed in different Japanese-style hotels many times. This time I booked two hotels in Shinhotaka/Hirayu Onsen. This is the first one. The location and view of the hotel are very good. The decoration is very good. Food is good. The front desk supervisor sister is also very good and hard-working. I would like to praise her. He also said that there are currently...
The environment is average, a bit cold without floor heating. The service is also average, without enthusiasm.
The hotel is one of the rare hotels in mountainous areas with private baths in the rooms. The hot spring water is very comfortable. Although it is spring, there is still heavy snow on the way up the mountain, and it is a bit far from the city. It is recommended to drive yourself or rent a car. Soak in the hot springs and enjoy the misty mountain scenery. Dinner is Hida beef and lobster meal

This is an upper tier "3 star" Ryokan style accommodation (priced accordingly) with a welcome mochi, matcha and pickles, access to an on-site onsen (a good one) fed by the same Kusatsu waters, with all the modern amenities. The room was beautiful and fresh looking, albeit a bit cold even with the heat turned all the way up to 11. This might be due to the -12 degrees and blizzard like conditiona during...
we had a fantastic stay, room was nice and cosy with comfortable bedding & the ryokan was walking distance from the main station
Lovely staff, nice public bath, great location, and a spacious room with fantastic air conditioning. Our issue was that the toilets/shower/drainage were foul smelling - not sure if this was our room in particular though.
Very nice ryokan, walking distance from the train station and to the main attractions Staff is nice, although not bilingual which is common in Japan however they efficiently use apps to translate. Rooms are spacious, we had Japanese style beds (on the floor) which can take a toll after a few days. Nice Onsen (traditional bathhouse) in the premises.
Lovely traditional building and rooms. Staff are extremely friendly and kind. The rooms are spacious, but do have signs of wear. This did not bother us. There is AC, we had separate single beds which were comfortable. Complimentary coffee/tea at entrance for whenever you like. In the room you are given complimentary water, soup, tea and croissants daily. It's a kind gesture of hospitality. The water...
If you're a light sleeper, this isn't for you. Walls between rooms are thin with no sound proof, so you can hear all the doors, voices and steps. May not be suitable for people with back pains. There's also a curfew at might, I'm guessing for security. Worth noting for foreign travelers. It is a pretty old place like others mention. But I think it adds character. However, it does need some maintenance...

I stayed at this ryokan because I wanted to experience a 180-year-old old house.I like to tour around old, long-established inns, but this ryokan has a history in the main building and a garden with a pond. Just looking at the wooden glass doors of this corridor...
We had a wonderful stay! We stayed in a Japanese-styled room (with the tatami) and it was clean and comfy. The kaisekis we had for dinner and breakfast were great too, especially the vegetables. Stayed 2 nights in January and it was a wonderful experience staying in a Buddhist Temple. Our room was in traditional Japanese style, reasonable in size with 2 futons. The room did not have an ensuite with the toilet and shower being on the opposite side of the Temple to our room. An ensuite is our preferred option but not having a large number of guests made access to the facilities east. There is...
A wonderful experience. The temple monk was a truly kind man who even guided us through prayer. The place is well-kept and very welcoming. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special experience. Thanks again for everything!
Interesting! Rooms were traditional and simple…as we expected. Had a delightful conversation with the resident Monk!
Staying at Zenkoji Temple Hotel is an interesting and unique experience. The hotel offers lots of activities at an additional (really reasonable) cost, like guided meditation and rice ball making. Wonderful experience to stay in a temple hotel. Events, such as, prayers and meditation available in the temple for guests. Social area with tea, coffee, fridge, microwave etc. also available. Loved it.

The accommodation has an onsen, but no food is sold, so it's recommended to buy food from outside. I think the service mind needs a bit of improvement. My first impression upon checking in was that the owner looked grumpy and didn't smile, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.
The view is amazing. I'll definitely be back.
The hotel is beautiful with a great atmosphere and a spectacular view. It features an outdoor onsen, including one women-only bath, two men-only baths, and a mixed-gender bath (swimwear is provided for the mixed bath). The hotel is close to the Anjansan Ropeway station and there are public buses, so transportation is quite convenient. As a used hotel, the facilities are certainly not as good as those of modern new hotels, but its advantage lies in the beautiful scenery.
It is rare to be able to reach Shenshanao Hot Spring Hotel with such convenient transportation. You can enjoy the hot spring in the beautiful nature, and everything else can be ignored. The hotel's hygiene and facilities are acceptable. There is no meal, but cup noodles and drinks are sold.

I used the hot springs. The bathing fee is 600 yen for adults. The changing room is the type where you put your belongings in a basket, so be careful if you have valuables. I love this place, but you might not. I choose this place for its modest cost (~80€) and it’s location next to the forest! The hotel seems to be run by a family, a very kind middle-aged woman speaks a little bit English and that saved me! An elderly mother took care of us and gave us a very warm welcome. I would like to come again.
There are some harsh reviews, but I think it's a good inn. All the owners of inns around here, not just here, look old. The big inn is closed due to corona. Inevitably there are family run inns left. Right by the station, super convenient for getting around! The staff were great, and dinner was delicious. Overall, very satisfied.
Very satisfied 👍 The steamed beef was better than the grilled meat. Dinner was different for two consecutive nights. The portions were very large, and everything was homemade. The private soup was available at no extra charge and could be used whenever it was available.
The location is very good, very close to the station. The room is very simple, but the food here is really to our taste and tastes very good.
The room is simple and clean. The standard Japanese room type. The dinner is very rich and delicious. The raw horse meat is amazing, fresh and delicious. It is a very special experience. The breakfast portion is sufficient. The pheasant egg rice is fresh and delicious 😋, which makes people want to come again
The room is average. The food is the same as other reviews. People with small appetites can't finish it. The hot spring is old, but it has everything you need. The boss seems cold, but he is responsive. Traditional Japanese personality. In fact, this restaurant is very good

This facility was recommended to me by the tourist association. I used it to pack my lunch for my trip to Kamikochi. The bento was delicious and plentiful. I'd definitely like to stay here again next time. It's rare in this area (a facility where meals and lodging are separated).
The room was just like a shoji screen, with no curtains, so it was very bright in the morning and I couldn't sleep until late. The only complaint I had was that the water was a little lukewarm, but the service and food were excellent.

A wonderful, unique, and meaningful stay for our family of four. This inn offers an authentic, traditional Japanese experience with superior care and fabulous food (you MUST add the dinner experiences!). We will remember it always.
I visited with my family. The owner was very kind and we had a comfortable stay. There was a separate bathroom, but it wasn't too inconvenient. However, the shower facilities were shared, so it was a little inconvenient. It would be better if the shared bathroom could be reserved by the hour.
