The hotel had no ramp nor elevator to move our luggage from the entrance up to the lobby level and again from our rooms on the 3rd floor, we had to lug them up and down the stairs. The toilet did not have a towel for us to dry our hands as the rail was held up by masking tape. The ceiling had discoloured patches damaged by leaks. Things were really old and not well upkeep. I will not want to return...
Very cosy ryokan, room was slightly dusty but quickly cleared up with the air purifier provided, the toilet was quite small for me but manageable. I liked the location and the decor, although the building seemed a little bit old compared to other ryokans in the area, it was still very well maintained.
Very nice hotel with wonderful onsens. Rooms were spacious and clean, and had incredible views! I would suggest that the hotel change the carpets in the hallways. They have previous water damage and should be replaced.
A nice charming onsen. We were a bit worried with some negative comments, but the place is authentic and although a bit old, is well maintained. The outdoor onsen is top! I cannot talk about the food, we didn’t try.
Resort is close to the mountain. The weather is so nice. There was snow fall during our visit. The owner of hotel is so nice. We just didn't like the bath room and accessories in the room. It's too old
Simple onsen hotel with all the necessary amenities. Just a short walk to the bus station.

Breakfast was just some simple bread; I was expecting something more, but there was nothing. The facilities are a bit old, no, they're quite old. Why is it so bad???
A small but clean hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast includes coffee, bread, boiled eggs, and soup. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of the old town, yet in a quieter area. It's near Hida Kokubunji Temple, home to the giant Gingko tree. The price is excellent.
It's very close to the station, making travel very convenient. There's also a temple nearby.
Although the hotel is a bit old, the rooms are still quite clean and more spacious than typical business hotels. It's about a 10-minute walk from Takayama Station, and there are many restaurants nearby, making it quite convenient.
Perfect little hotel at a walkable distance from both the town center and the train station. Good service, cozy room, clean and convenient.
The room exceeded my expectations. It was listed as 9 square meters when I booked, but after checking in, I could easily fit two 26-inch suitcases without hindering movement. Although the hotel is a bit old, it was very clean and the service was quite warm. The breakfast was a simple buffet, but enough to fill you up. The hotel also offers free bicycle rentals. Kokubunji Temple is located next to the...

Me and my fiance stayed for 2 nights. We did not bring our dogs, but enjoyed the stay very much! Both the breakfast buffet and the dinner was tasty and varied. The private onsen was also nice and the staff were very friendly to us. We took the bus for hiking, which was no problem Would definitely recommend for any dog lovers!
We took japanese style bedroom but the futons were super thin so uncomfortable. The private onsen was a bit smelly making the experience less enjoyable. For the travel to reach the place, we struggle little to go by bus. For the positive, the staff was amazing and helpful, the breakfast has lot of varieties for everyone. The room was super clean, spacious and very beautiful. Spending time with dogs...
we travelled without a dog and it was fine, no smell or anything. but maybe the carpet isnt the best choice of floor with so many dogs😅 we just spent the night as it was convenient from the location for hiking, the room was quite old but okay. the staff was very friendly. the public onsen was not nice, it had a weird smell and we did not use it,
The hotel is located in nature in the mountains, it’s easy to find. This hotel is specialized in guests with dogs. Everything is focused on dogs. It’s quite an authentic, old hotel. All rooms have balconies with the view and sound of the small river and a lot of trees. In some areas it may smell a bit like dogs, but if you love pets, you wouldnt mind. The room was spacious, but don’t expect things...
This is a pet friendly hotel 🐶 You can bring your dog or cat to stay. There is a private outdoor onsen pool or you can bring your pet to soak in the onsen. There are many types of rooms to choose from, such as a stone pool or a hinoki wood pool. The staff were very helpful even though they couldn't communicate in English. Dinner is a dinner course served in sequence. Breakfast has a variety of Japanese...
It's a comfortable environment where only dog lovers gather, and we are very satisfied with the attentive staff. It's a little disappointing that the bath is in a separate building and you have to go outside to get there! There was more snow than we expected, so we couldn't go for a walk, and we'd definitely like to visit in the summer next time! Thank you very much.

The room was spacious and had a jacuzzi, which was a big plus. The staff were excellent and very attentive. Both breakfast and dinner were great, with a nice sense of occasion. The food tasted pretty good too. Definitely worth a visit!
Great location but everything was very dated, the TV, western sofa set, even the car that drove us to the train station. We stayed in a room with an indoor onset which we enjoyed. The kaiseki and breakfast was very good.
Hida-Takayama Onsen Hotel is top-tier among all the onsen hotels I've stayed at in Japan. It's incredibly clean, ideally located very close to Takayama's main attractions, and just a short walk from Takayama Station.
The best Japanese hotel I've ever stayed in. The service was excellent. The young waitress who checked us in was incredibly patient, taking a lot of time to explain everything and provide information in Chinese. She was incredibly responsive to all our requests and very knowledgeable. Truly commendable. The hotel itself was comfortable and clean, and the food was superb. The kaiseki meal was meticulously...
Service is incredibly considerate, foods are delicate. Before we set off, the hotel would send a enquiry email to understand our needs, and they offer the pick up service if they are available.
The best ryokan experience I’ve ever had. The service was truly top-end, with warm, attentive, and professional staff who made the stay feel special from start to finish. This accommodation is really great! The shared onsen allows you to wear the provided cloth, which is perfect for shy people. However, some bathers do walk around naked briefly. The only downside is that not all bus lines pass by, so you have to check the routes carefully.

The room was a bit old. There was a noticeable tear in the wallpaper near the baseboard. The tatami mat was peeling slightly, leaving small debris on my socks when I walked around. Really nice Ryokan! Room was clean, breakfast and dinner was really delicious and I love the Onsen!
My room was spacious and spotless. My window looked out toward the beautiful Japanese Alps, nice to wake up to! I would highly recommend booking the meal plans for both dinners and breakfasts... the inn is a bit of a walk from town (very do-able), but it was so nice to eat right there, and the meals were just fantastic! Staff is great, the baths are wonderful... would stay there again.
Close to Hida Village, too far from everything else. Only h
A charming place to stay just outside Takayama. We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful stay.
The staff were incredibly friendly and always smiling. The place was spotless, and we appreciated that yukata were provided for everyone to wear to the baths. We enjoyed the peaceful stay at the Ryokan and the liked the quiet surroundings. The private open air onsen was fabulous. The morning walks in the woods behind the Ryokan was great. This was followed by the sumptuous breakfast provided by the Ryokan to start our day of walking the trails which are nearby.
I made a reservation on the day. The front desk staff were friendly and the building was clean and nice.
Surrounded by greenery, with a superb outdoor onsen. Impeccable service, spacious room. All toiletries and bathroom accessories are provided at reception.
There are several great things about this ryokan 1) Best of all is the hida beef kaiseki dinner - its truly hida beef (they displayed certifications and it taste different from normal beef) in great quantity per person - which also in turn makes the ryokan cost very economical 2) Location is easily accessible by both public transport and if you are driving they have ample parking space 3) A lot...
Our stay at Ryokan Gizan was a truly memorable experience. This is a traditionally built and decorated Japanese ryokan, with tatami floors, sliding doors, and an authentic atmosphere that makes you feel fully immersed in Japanese culture. Our family of four enjoyed our one night stay at Ryokan Seiryu during our trip to Takayama in September. We really enjoyed our stay at the traditional Ryokan Seiryu! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating and you feel that they really go out of their way to give you the best experience possible. My friends and I stayed here for two nights and we had a wonderful time. The staff was very helpful and the meals were all delicious. The private onsen is great for a few people but if it's full the staff will give you a free entry pass for a larger one a few minute's walk away. Plus, the location is great for getting to/from the station and to the morning markets. Staying in a ryokan is something...

A very calm and high quality Ryokan. We stayed for two nights in a traditional Japanese room, which I wasn’t looking forward to but really enjoyed. English not spoken. It was very difficult to communicate with the front desk. Fortunately, we had a fabulous attendant, “Sana.” Food, even on the “western” menu was primarily fish and tofu. In short, the food variety made our visit...
Wow, Hidatei Hanougi may have been our best stay in over a month traveling Japan, and we've been to some nice places. Yes, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. Charming ryokan in north Takayama a good walk from the old town area. Our room had a private courtyard with onsen - great for relaxing at the end of a day of exploring. Several restaurants - we ate breakfast there. Remember to take your shoes off in the entry and use the slippers!
The hotel is located in the Takayama area and is a standard Japanese hotel. , The hotel has a batch of koi fish, which are amazingly expensive. [Kaisaki dinner] with Hida beef shabu-shabu is of high standard, a standard Kyoto cuisine, with high-quality ingredients, delicious taste, and exquisite utensils. Mizuda beef is well-deserved and worth a try.
The fourth and best ryokan we have ever visited in Japan. We had an own hot bath in the private garden, and the room was very spacious. As we stayed two nights we had two dinners and breakfasts. Our first dinner was kaiseki and second shobu-shobu. Both were excellent. We tried both Japanese and Western breakfast, so my advice is to choose Japanese, as it was great, but Western just good. Very good location. Near to Takayama Station. However, bad experience with the tatami bed bug bites. The low table with heated blanket had bad smell. Suggest hotel to do a better clean for these items in the room.
It’s a very nice place, 3mins walk from Nohi bus station. Very aesthetic Japanese layout, each room are themed with different Japanese cultures. The staffs are also very friendly and helpful and can’t complaint about the level of service.
The Wi-Fi was terrible; there was none in the room initially. They fixed it later, and I got two bars of signal, but it was still poor. There's no hot spring here; what they call a hot spring is just tap water. The bedding was awful; I got bitten all over and felt very itchy, and the duvet cover kept coming off the comforter. The hotel is decent, but the room is a bit cramped for three adults. There's no room for luggage. The shared bathroom has a hot tub. The shared kitchen has everything you need: a kettle, tea, a microwave, and a refrigerator.
Great hotel :) The owner was very welcoming and kind, made us feel right at home. The room is spacious and clean. The onsen was relaxing. The dinning area was clean quite and with a nice view! Lovely onsen, with a sauna and an outdoor garden bath. Very friendly and dedicated staff, with limited English but no communication difficulties. It's a bit far from the action in Takayama old town, but there are some superb restaurants nearby.

Good place to stay and enjoy Onsen. Pick the right time and you may have the public onsen for your own. Japanese room was ok but the heater quite dusty. so those with sensitive noise please take note.
- Location: Very very close to the bus terminal - Room: a bit old dated, but still quite comfy - Food: very good for both dinner and breakfast - Service: the staff are quite helpful - Onsen: both outdoor and private ones are great
The hotel has 2 parts, one old and one new side. It was full during the New Year and we (2 of us) were in the old side. The room has nothing fancy, it was old, the carpet as well (should be changed). It was expensive for nothing. The view was facing the backyard fountain which was nice from the lobby, but noisy for guests in the room. Staffs were nice and one of them (grey hair man) could speak a bit...
Outdoor female onsen was nice! Futon was comfy, and the room was clean. Also, snacks provided each day was pretty sweet, no pun intended lol. Nearby to the bus to town made it convenient, and service was great; but beware, most people cannot speak English.
Very nice ryokan with an excellent outdoor onsen. The meals are excellent and generous. Take much effort to finish the food.
