The room was spacious and had a jacuzzi, which was a big plus. The staff were excellent and very attentive. Both breakfast and dinner were great, with a nice sense of occasion. The food tasted pretty good too. Definitely worth a visit!
Great location but everything was very dated, the TV, western sofa set, even the car that drove us to the train station. We stayed in a room with an indoor onset which we enjoyed. The kaiseki and breakfast was very good.
Hida-Takayama Onsen Hotel is top-tier among all the onsen hotels I've stayed at in Japan. It's incredibly clean, ideally located very close to Takayama's main attractions, and just a short walk from Takayama Station.
The best Japanese hotel I've ever stayed in. The service was excellent. The young waitress who checked us in was incredibly patient, taking a lot of time to explain everything and provide information in Chinese. She was incredibly responsive to all our requests and very knowledgeable. Truly commendable. The hotel itself was comfortable and clean, and the food was superb. The kaiseki meal was meticulously...
Service is incredibly considerate, foods are delicate.
Before we set off, the hotel would send a enquiry email to understand our needs, and they offer the pick up service if they are available.
The best ryokan experience I’ve ever had. The service was truly top-end, with warm, attentive, and professional staff who made the stay feel special from start to finish. The room was beautifully designed and extremely comfortable, the food was exceptional, and the onsen was peaceful and perfectly maintained. Every detail was thoughtfully done, making the entire experience both relaxing and memorable...

Outdoor onsen with unforgettable wonderful experience! Must visit during winter season! Love it♥️
Its great me& my friend enjoyed our stay here so much especially their spa's its natural.. coming fr; the surrounding mountain.. looking forward of coming back in this Hotel..
This hotel boasts an excellent location, right near the Shinhotaka Ropeway and directly across from the Black Bear Zoo. It's a fantastic value-for-money onsen hotel. Waking up, you're greeted with beautiful river and mountain views right outside the window, and there's a waterfall just a short walk from the hotel. They have numerous hot spring baths, and the mixed-gender bath is also great. The absolute...
The accommodation is close to Hira Onsen and has several hot springs, separated for men and women, plus a mixed-gender pool where you can wear clothes. The onsen is excellent and the food is delicious.
location a bit far. otherwise all good 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This accommodation is really great! The shared onsen allows you to wear the provided cloth, which is perfect for shy people. However, some bathers do walk around naked briefly. The only downside is that not all bus lines pass by, so you have to check the routes carefully.

The front desk service was poor, the hallway was a mess with shoes everywhere, and the food wasn't good. Compared to other onsen hotels in Hirayu, you can really see the difference.
Excellent service, and the snowy scenery is absolutely beautiful!
Extremely satisfied! The hot springs were fantastic, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The service attitude was excellent, and the location was very convenient. They even came out in heavy snow to help with our luggage. The rooms were also great. Highly recommend! I booked two rooms, so I'm commenting twice.
The hotel views were great, but the outdoor mixed-gender onsen wasn't as good without snow in winter. The food was average, not as amazing as I'd hoped. The outdoor hot spring was a bit small; it would be hard to enjoy if there were many people. We ran into a ********* tour group, but thankfully we managed to go at different times. However, it was very thoughtful of them to call our room at 9 AM to...
The hotel is elegant and charming, and the hot springs are fantastic.
Beautiful hotel with wonderful service. The onsens were well cared for and we had them to ourselves. The views of the mountains and river from the onsen were spectacular. The food was great and transitional to Japan. We loved our the stay in the traditional Ryokan. Probably our best stay of the trip.

Pros: convenient location. Just a few minutes walk to the main Hirayu bus station. Very clean, Very friendly staff. Decent size onsen (indoor and outdoor). Outdoor onsen temperature was perfect. Unfortunately Indoor too hot to use. Green tea served was excellent quality. Food quantity and variety was good. Room was spacious.
Cons: Some dinner dishes were too salty. Indoor onsen temperature much too...
The room was a bit old. There was a noticeable tear in the wallpaper near the baseboard. The tatami mat was peeling slightly, leaving small debris on my socks when I walked around. The faucet in my room operated in the opposite way to what I'm used to, making it a bit awkward to use.
I noticed a faint smell of machine oil in the hotel's elevator.
Compared to other onsen hotels, the lobby on the first...

Very satisfied with the room, and it even has a private hot spring inside.

Clean. Public bath. Far from everything. No breakfast and no diner available.
Really nice Ryokan! Room was clean, breakfast and dinner was really delicious and I love the Onsen!
My room was spacious and spotless. My window looked out toward the beautiful Japanese Alps, nice to wake up to! I would highly recommend booking the meal plans for both dinners and breakfasts... the inn is a bit of a walk from town (very do-able), but it was so nice to eat right there, and the meals were just fantastic! Staff is great, the baths are wonderful... would stay there again.
Close to Hida Village, too far from everything else. Only h
A charming place to stay just outside Takayama. We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful stay.
The staff were incredibly friendly and always smiling. The place was spotless, and we appreciated that yukata were provided for everyone to wear to the baths. No private showers were available (they're currently under renovation), but the onsens were absolutely fantastic and separated for men and women. Unbeatable value for money! 😉

A very calm and high quality Ryokan. We stayed for two nights in a traditional Japanese room, which I wasn’t looking forward to but really enjoyed. The futon matresses (make sure you use 2) were very comfortable and the simplicity of the room was very characterful. However access to comfy chairs would be appreciated. We loved the meals in the private dining room. There were four of us and we enjoyed...
English not spoken. It was very difficult to communicate with the front desk. Fortunately, we had a fabulous attendant, “Sana.” Food, even on the “western” menu was primarily fish and tofu. That’s ok if it’s your first night, but frankly, I am Sick of raw fish. The ryokan was pretty well located relative to other activities. Transportation access was good. In short, the food variety made our visit...
Wow, Hidatei Hanougi may have been our best stay in over a month traveling Japan, and we've been to some nice places. Yes, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. In this case, that starts with the greeting you receive on arrival and just keeps going. Our Japanese style room was huge with private onsen and zen garden. The public onsens are spacious and extremely well-appointed, including one set...
Charming ryokan in north Takayama a good walk from the old town area. Our room had a private courtyard with onsen - great for relaxing at the end of a day of exploring. Several restaurants - we ate breakfast there. Remember to take your shoes off in the entry and use the slippers!
The hotel is located in the Takayama area and is a standard Japanese hotel. ,
The hotel has a batch of koi fish, which are amazingly expensive.
[Kaisaki dinner] with Hida beef shabu-shabu is of high standard, a standard Kyoto cuisine, with high-quality ingredients, delicious taste, and exquisite utensils. Mizuda beef is well-deserved and worth a try.
The fourth and best ryokan we have ever visited in Japan. We had an own hot bath in the private garden, and the room was very spacious. As we stayed two nights we had two dinners and breakfasts. Our first dinner was kaiseki and second shobu-shobu. Both were excellent. We tried both Japanese and Western breakfast, so my advice is to choose Japanese, as it was great, but Western just good. Cosy Ryokan with extremely friendly service.
The hotel is very good, my family is very satisfied and likes it very much. First, it is very down-to-earth, second, I like the simplicity of the hotel, third, the owner is very nice, and finally, it is very close to Hida no Sato (Folk Village), just a few minutes walk away. We visited on the second day of a two-night trip to Kamikochi and Mount Norikura.
The food was served in a private room, and the male staff were very attentive. The menu was a delightful kaiseki course. I...
The facility is quite old, but is well-constructed. The lobby on the first floor has a very relaxing atmosphere, and I really enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the morning.

A memorable inn. I used it for a trip for two girls in the cold season.
I was able to relax in my room and it was delicious at night and in the morning.
The Yukimi bath and the digging kotatsu are the best.
When I had dinner, I said that the one who carried me had a fireworks display, so I rushed to the bus and participated in the winter fireworks display.
I would definitely like to go to stay again...
Beautiful and quaint onsen Ryokan located in a small town near the snow capped mountains. The hosts and owners are amazing people, the elderly female host came outside to greet us as we pulled in to the car park with the car in the freezing winter! The hotel has a very Japanese vibe. The room was quite spacious, a mix of Japanese and Western styles. In the evening, there was sake available, which created a wonderful atmosphere. The staff were all very nice, and the location was excellent, right next to the old town.
This might be the first time I've stayed at a hotel that blends Japanese and Western styles so perfectly. The room wasn't small, and the size of the beds, the space between them, and the bedding all offered a high degree of comfort and convenience.
I specifically came to see the Takayama Festival this time, and coincidentally, there were several floats parked right outside the hotel entrance for everyone...
They have a pub with live music in the evening, which is a nice touch. The rooms are pretty standard but have a certain quality to them. I'd recommend it for travelers who have specific expectations for their accommodation.
A great place to relax with an onsen, close to tourist attractions. Very convenient with everything you need. The service was excellent. I'll definitely be back to stay again.

Very good location. Near to Takayama Station. However, bad experience with the tatami bed bug bites. The low table with heated blanket had bad smell. Suggest hotel to do a better clean for these items in the room.
It’s a very nice place, 3mins walk from Nohi bus station.
Very aesthetic Japanese layout, each room are themed with different Japanese cultures.
The staffs are also very friendly and helpful and can’t complaint about the level of service.
The Wi-Fi was terrible; there was none in the room initially. They fixed it later, and I got two bars of signal, but it was still poor. There's no hot spring here; what they call a hot spring is just tap water. The bedding was awful; I got bitten all over and felt very itchy, and the duvet cover kept coming off the comforter. Friendly people. Location was near the old district of Takayama, not that close to the station.
Room is a bit dirty and rundown
The hotel is decent, but the room is a bit cramped for three adults. There's no room for luggage. The shared bathroom has a hot tub. The shared kitchen has everything you need: a kettle, tea, a microwave, and a refrigerator.
Great hotel :)

The hotel has 2 parts, one old and one new side. It was full during the New Year and we (2 of us) were in the old side.
The room has nothing fancy, it was old, the carpet as well (should be changed). It was expensive for nothing. The view was facing the backyard fountain which was nice from the lobby, but noisy for guests in the room.

We stayed here for one night to experience a Japanese Ryokan and to make use of the onsen. This is a small, family-run Ryokan. On arrival, you are given a kimono and slippers to wear, as no shoes are allowed inside. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Whilst we are glad we stayed here for the laughs and stories we will dine out on, it missed the bar by a big way as a Westerner it wasn’t designed for us. We did embrace the meal the first night. This is a lovely, traditional ryokan, which means the furnishings and bathrooms and such are a bit dated. It is very quiet and both our private hot springs and the public one were comfortable. Enjoyed the hospitality overall, though few staff speak English very well.
A nice little Ryokan. The food was beautifully presented and delicious - only hiccup was that despite the fact we’d told them in advance that a couple of us didn’t eat seafood - we were served seafood at each meal - besides that, the beef was delicious and good serving portions. We stayed in four ryokans during our trip to Japan and this was easily the best of them, despite its official three-star grading (small TVs and some tired furnishings may explain that), set apart from the rest because of its simply outstanding hospitality and service. I didn't go for breakfast because I overslept, but the view from the room was great. It is more convenient to live near the station and go to Kamikochi early in the morning.
Good location near market and temple
The views are absolutely superb. Request the 6th floor facing Miyagawa river if you can. Great space and facilities for a budget hotel, where you want to spend most your time in Takayama. Staff are very helpful and even dropped us off at the train station.
