Mizuno Ryokan in Karatsu

Fantastic stay. Gorgeously villa, interiors superbly well designed and outfitted. Priceless views. Right on the waterfront and lovely promenade for long walk.

We visited Karatsu in early spring. We stayed in the Bamboo Room on the first floor, facing the sandy beach of Nishinohama. It is close to the Takatori Residence and has the atmosphere of a quiet villa area. The gate of a relocated samurai residence is impressive. The most attractive feature of this inn is the spectacular view of Karatsu Bay, with small islands such as Takashima floating in it, but the cuisine, centered around seasonal fish and prepared by the owner himself, is also excellent.

Mizuno Ryokan is very special for a number of reasons. Unlike many large "resort style" ryokans, Mizuno is small and intimate with very personal service. Throughout, there is great attention to detail: fresh flowers, beautiful woodwork and stonework, and the use of Karatsu ceramics for the serving of food and decoration.
The beachfront location is superb, adding a beautiful view to everything from a simple cup of tea to a full kaiseki dinner. As we enjoyed dinner the sea and sky moved through a glorious range of colours over the course of the evening. We enjoyed a few days at Mizuno nearly 10 years ago, and our return visit was just as pleasurable. This is a truly wonderful place to stay in Karatsu.

Quiet and chill place to stay with if you need a very relaxed break. Closed to the seashore and castle which is about just 5 mins walk.
Great food with careful and hearty preparation, both dinner and breakfast, impressive to eat in a 2nd floor room with sea view and super spacious.
Small hot bath but super clean and ordered, very few visitors so I enjoy it alone. Highly recommended.

The food and service from the staff were just as wonderful as the reviews said.
We went to celebrate my parents' birthday, and my mother was very happy.

A Great Experience, Warm Memories
The space was quiet and beautiful. Every detail was so clean that it felt like every detail had been meticulously maintained. The night sea view from my room was breathtaking. The staff's warm hospitality and the local cuisine were truly fresh and delicious. It was a truly wonderful experience.

The sea spread out before our eyes, and we were able to spend a peaceful time.

Comfortable, quiet and conveniently located. Make sure you hop onto the ferry and go to Takashima Island too.

Like some people say, the AC system is about time to upgrade or renew , I was fine with the noise level (it's cold and strong for our Canadian taste ❤️ despite 40C+ hot outside) but the air purity is too damp/heavy than I like.

Futon and pillow is full and supportive (I'm picky on hotel beddings) but it's not bad at all, we all had a good sleep and feel fresh the next day. It might have some smell but I guess it has to do with the location which has high humidity all time.

I miss the experience and food already, will definitely come back. Thank you 🙏

The staff at the inn were very polite and I had a very comfortable stay. The food was also very satisfying!
