Reviews
The issues began from the moment we arrived. Despite being advertised as having a parking lot, there was none. We were told to park in a paid lot outside the old town, forcing us to wait in line for hours just to find a spot. This was a frustrating and terrible start to our trip.
The room itself was an unbelievable disappointment. It bore no resemblance to the photos online; it was incredibly small and cramped, with barely enough room to walk. The noise was relentless, and we could hear everything from the hallway and other rooms and the clubs downstairs, making it impossible to relax.
Staff were unhelpful and inconsistent, The total lack of amenities was a huge issue. We had no shampoo or shower gel, the breakfast kept lacking what advertised.
This hotel had no redeeming qualities and was a complete rip-off. Having stayed in countless hotels, I can confidently say this was the worst experience I have ever had. I urge anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere; it's truly not a hotel worth choosing.
It is a boutiq hotel with fine items in the room , grate shower . Best location inside the old city.
On the down side no parking arrangmet. ,free parking is very hard to find and cost of parking is very high .Also no way to get in with cars to this earia , so u need to hand carry the lagouge for 500 mt.
The hotel is located in the old town, so be aware that there are many bars below, where parties continue until 1:00 AM.
The reception staff couldn't remember me for four days, asking each time if I was going to the rooftop restaurant. I asked about a transfer to Dobra Voda, and they said they needed to find out (I heard them discussing it in front of me), but no one ever returned.
Everyone at the breakfast restaurant and at the rooftop restaurant was very friendly, remembered me, and was very pleasant.
Yes, we were warned about the noise — but that ended up being the least of our problems. The service was appalling. One staff member in particular was not only unhelpful but repeatedly gave us incorrect information, contradicting both the tourist information centre and his own colleagues. The overall attitude from staff was cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming.
The room itself was clean, but that’s where the positives end. The only real benefit of this hotel is its location in the Old Town — but there are countless other hotels nearby that won’t ruin your stay.
Avoid this place. You’ll thank yourself later.
I had a great experience staying here for multiple reasons - the first is the location. You really cannot get much better than in the Center of Old Town Kotor, the location is gorgeous and you are walking distance within everything. Also, there is a rooftop restaurant with an awesome view where the staff is extremely hospitable.
Second was the food and breakfast. Every morning I had breakfast that was quickly prepared, but it tasted great… seriously. They cut fresh fruit for us as well which might not sound like a big deal, but it’s the little details and things like that that stand out. When I ask for something, they delivered quickly and with quality on our food and drinks.
Third was safety. With a 24 hour receptionist and safety, I felt safe and like I could reach out at any time if I needed anything. That was a very nice plus as well since other places were not able to offer that service.
Finally, the hospitality was truly unmatched. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, every member of the staff always asked us if we need anything, checked in on us, and just had great general conversations with them. The people that cleaned our rooms constantly asked if we needed bathroom utilities, or if there was anything else they could do for us, which demonstrated they were focused on keeping our rooms clean. The front desk team and Bojan gave us recommendations on what to do while we are in Kotor, and even offered us beach towels and a bag to carry them since we forgot ours. It was little gestures like that that made a big impact for us, and constant politeness that really just stood out to me. They really are the definition of hospitality and customer service!!!
I also do want to address the noise - yes, there is some noise but that is out of their control. It’s not fair to blame the hotel for that since Kotor old town is small, and you can hear the music from far out.
Thank you Hotel Hippocampus team for a great stay! I strongly recommend them if you are looking to stay in Kotor!
