The Riad Viva is one of the “grande dames” of Sidi Mimoun. A lovely place in a great area of Marrakech. I suspect it was built in the early years of the 20th century. It has a very elegant 1920’s vibe. The floor plan is very well done. The finishing is luscious and luxurious. Lots of hand-cut zellij tile work. Amazing hand-carved plasterwork and natural woodwork. Gorgeous tan colored marble on the floors throughout. After close to 100 years, it’s still the best of the best. The staff is polite, friendly and efficient. They are lovely. I can’t say enough good things about this Riad, and I highly recommend it.

I had an extremely poor experience at this hotel, unlike anything I've encountered at any hotel in any country. On the morning of my stay, I realized I had mistakenly booked for the previous night, and the payment had already been processed. However, I did not utilize any hotel services, including breakfast, public areas, or bed cleaning.

Despite the booking error, I went to Riad Viva to discuss with the front desk if I could either book a room for the current night at a discounted rate or access some services. The front desk staff were extremely rude and informed me that since my transaction was complete, I was no longer their guest. When I asked if I could get a partial refund or use some services since I hadn't used any, the staff bluntly stated that I was no longer their guest and could not enter Riad. They said, "YOU WILL NOT GET ANY ROOM, ANY MONEY." I felt I was treated very unfairly.

Despite my attempts to communicate further, the staff simply told me to contact Agoda. I would never recommend anyone to stay at this Riad and risk experiencing the same awful treatment I did.
This Riad is also in a terrible neighborhood, where there are ruins that collapsed after the earthquake.

Had a weird/ uncomfortable experience here.

You need to knock to be let into the building (only a room key is given the main door is on a knocking basis). We came back late one night (around midnight) and another guest was coming out so let us back in.

The guy who does the night shift unlocked our bedroom door early in the morning and walked in. We were asleep and obviously very spooked by this ordeal. Not sure what the intention with this was, as all our stuff was in the room and we were asleep. When he noticed we were awake and noticed him he quickly left and said when we saw him at breakfast the next day that he wanted to ‘check we had come back’. Very strange and made us feel very unsettled for the rest of the trip. Probably wouldn’t return for this reason alone which is a shame.

Otherwise…

Nice Riad interior. Bit further in than some others so can be a little confusing to get to first. Nice rooftop area.

Central for most of Marrakesh city everything is walkable. Hotel was clean and quite considering how load the city can be.

Tucked away amongst small streets and little houses this Riad is a must. The moment you step in through the front door you instantly feel relaxed and the pace of the town/souks/excursions just drop away. Beautiful traditional interior and the staff can’t do enough for you. Very helpful and informative. Will happily book your reservations, excursions, taxis and give any advice on local knowledge. Breakfast is included (traditional pastries, bread, jam, honey, yoghurt, coffee and fresh orange) and was more than enough for us. Thank you guys. If we decide to visit again we will book this place. 👍

My friend, Malin, and I spent 3 wonderful nights at Riad Viva, and our experience was truly delightful. The genuine warmth and hospitality of Meriem, our gracious host, Amine, and everyone from the Riad made us feel warmly welcomed and completely at ease. We particularly appreciated the flexibility of early check-in and late check-out.

The riad exudes traditional Moroccan charm with its intricate design and serene ambiance. Each morning, Amine thoughtfully prepared and served a beautifully presented breakfast that added a delightful start to our days. We especially enjoyed savoring our meals while taking in the tranquility and peace in the Riad.

Although the riad is situated a few blocks from where cars can access, which can make transporting luggage a bit challenging, Meriem arranged taxis with great efficiency to smooth our journey. She also offered excellent recommendations for local attractions and arranged massages, ensuring a thoroughly relaxing experience. This location contributes to the riad’s charm, offering a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle.

The attentive care and thoughtful touches from the staff made our experience exceptional. As this was our first trip to Morocco, we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction.

I stayed in Marrakech for 9 days and at three Riads. This was the most disappointing stay. The staff met us for our airport transfer and just said, “follow me” no hello, no checking to see who we were. Just took off at an abrupt pace with no offer to help with our bags. We travelled light (just backpacks and one carry on suitcase) but still struggled to keep up in the heat with our bags following the staff through the twisting alleyways. We were asked to pay as soon as we arrived, they told us the card reader was only for larger payments (our total was over 100 euros) and we needed to pay in cash immediately. We didn’t have enough so out we went to get more from the atm. When we returned, they had no change and asked us to go out and get more to pay the next day. Our room was fine, if a bit lacking. Two towels for showering but no hand towels or wash clothes. The whole area is under construction and everything was dusty. The staff showing us the room turned on the light for us, it flickered and kept going out so she just turned it off and then left. The rooftop was a nice place to relax and the morning we left another staff offered us a light breakfast before we had to depart which was a nice touch. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. It felt dated, impersonal, and like we were an inconvenience for being there. If you’re on a budget and just need a place to sleep this will suffice. If you’re looking for an enjoyable stay, consider other Riads.

What a special find. Lovely Riad, rooms are clean and everything is beautifully decorated. The plunge pool and roof terrace is a welcome relief from the city. Redouane is such a credit to the business. Nothing is to much trouble, he offers plenty of advice and insights, hints and useful tips. He really makes the stay! Breakfast is really tasty and the homemade yoghurt, the best Ive eaten. Evening meals are hone cooked and delicious. I will be back.

Charming Riad in a quiet pedestrian quarter of the medina, in walking distance of both the old and new town. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff - Redouane gave good advice on places to visit and would arrange transport for visits out of town or to the airport. Delicious breakfast with fresh orange juice, Because it's a pedestrian area, be prepared to walk a few minutes from where a taxi can drop you off, but it is well worth staying a few days to get to know the neighbourhood.
