The walls of the room were too thin. The voice and noise from other room could be heard as if we were in the same riom.
We were not told of the steepness of the path leading to the hotel, which was difficult for my wife to negotiate.
We were half board but we're not told drinks were not included with our evening meal, not even water. We also were not told whether we could bring our own drinks in, even if it was just water. The staff were not very helpful if you did not want to buy drinks and if I'd known that you could...
This hotel is in a great location and, has a good restaurant which offers a buffet breakfast with a great variety of things.
The rooms are neat and tidy and the views from some of them are spectacular.
I Would recommend for smaller groups, families and or solo travellers.
The room is clean, very bright, the windows overlook the tennis court
Good localisation, food very tasty for the luch and a lot of acomodities nearby the hotel, the center of funchal is a bit far by feet.
Very beautiful view from my balcony. I recommend everything was good.

Great hotel in central location of Funchal old town , friendly stuff and great breakfast with tasty choices, very nice coffee. Clean room and great view of the ocean. Cheap parking on Bly 5-7 min walk.
Nice location and staff were friendly. Breakfast was okayish…and parking was difficult unless you are happy to pay 15 euros for the hotel parking
Loved this hotel and room 611 was perfect in every way. The view was stunning and the room was a wonderful size. The beds were comfortable and staff were very helpful.
I had a great stay! I would highlight the great location, the views from the room and rooftop, excellent breakfast, and friendly staff.
the location is really good-in the city center. so it's not easy to find a parking point.
Very tidy and a beautiful roof terrace

Arrived here a week ago. Upon entering our room we noticed that the air conditioning wasn’t working so we were moved a bit further up the corridor to a suite. The rooms were very clean & comfortable but there was no tea or coffee making facilities. We also had to ask at reception for a key to the safe.
We had dinner a couple of nights in the restaurant but the service was really slow. We waited well...
This is a great hotel to stay in if you are looking for somewhere close to the airport/city. The views are amazing from all areas of the hotel and it’s clean! The rooms are practical for what you need and there is a supermarket about 5 minutes away in the car for everything you would need. They run a shuttle service through the week and there is also a local bus that stops outside the hotel. We used...
Hi the positive of this hotel is the staff especially Connie, lovely view of the sea but unfortunately there is a road outside the hotel (see photo) so you could not sit out there because all you could hear was traffic. Swimming pool had green at the bottom in the corners, sunbeds were stained and one ripped, so it looks neglected There is nowhere to dry swimming costumes on balcony, the hotel do...
Arrived here 23rd December 2024 until 6th January 2025. First of all no sure how rated 4 star hotel, there is no hospitality tray, no water when arriving unless you want to pay 6 euros. No information about things to do. Breakfast not set tables see to yourself and table only cleared once youve left, one thing buffet breakfast had a good selection but was always warm/cold. The information about nearest...
Lovely hotel with excellent facilities . As it is a little way out of the main town it is quieter . Six of us have just enjoyed a really lovely stay for a week . The food is very nice and the hotel very clean and beautifully managed . The staff are all very friendly and helpful . There is a hotel shuttle bus into town and taxis are easy to arrange . Also local buses stop outside . We asked for the...
It’s a nice clean hotel and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Special mention to Valerie in reception and Barbara in the breakfast room, and of course Louis who regularly drove us into Funchal. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, indeed, the fresh rye bread was lovely. Our room was spacious and immaculate. We had an amazing view from our verandah but my only quibble was not having...

One of the top hotels I have ever stayed. The service was nothing less than exceptional. The Reserve was the high end room in this hotel and it was worth every penny. We felt like royalty. From the greeting on the airport tarmac to the wonderful checkin. The housekeeping staff was so amazing. We have really never had this level of perfection in any other place we have stayed. The restaurants in the...
Other than the GALÁXIA restaurant being told of a shellfish allergy and being served prawns in an appetizer, which caused an allergic reaction, it was a marvelous stay.
Fantastic hotel.
Lovely place with incredibly friendly staff.
Thoroughly recommend.
Beautiful views and great service
Incredible service and beautiful suite overlooking the ocean. The spa was great too.
We have had the privilege of travelling many times in the past few decades This is our number one best hotel experience weeks prior to our stay we were contacted to make sure that every detail would be addressed My wife is celiac and the many amazing restaurants went above and beyond to accommodate her for breakfast lunch and dinner without mentioning her restrictions Every individual employee from...
Fantastic accommodations from the spacious rooms to the staff attention to detail and service. Numerous little touches - like small bathrobes and slippers for small children and the takeaway treats at breakfast make the stay here very special.

Lovely hotel, we had a deluxe room , comfy beds , large balcony and lovely sea view. Very clean , good breakfast . The shuttle bus is good , we booked it the night before online. The bus drops you at the port in Funchal. The pool area is lovely and clean and the snack bar food is very good. The only reason we wouldn’t go back is the challenging steps down to the pool /bar and promenade although we...
Hotel with a magnificent view, super calm, where you can relax listening to the sea! The breakfast is wonderful!
Although the location on the cliff side was lovely it came with disadvantage s especially for anyone disabled. To get to the (icy cold) but beautiful pool you have to go down 110 steps plus one very steep ramp. Of course going back up after a swim is worse. There is no warning of this on any hotel info The other disadvantage is there are no local eateries which leaves you with an overpriced (€40)...
Stayed here for the second time..it was a better experience than the first time we went last year..we gave it a second chance because of it's location and the fact that each room has a full sea view.therefore peaceful and scenic ,a room and balcony to enjoy and relax after a busy day sightseeing. The breakfast was plentyful and varied and fresh.. Didn't eat in the hotel in the evening. Hotel staff...
We had a deluxe suite room on floor -5 – this is one large room, rather than multiple rooms, as the word ‘suite’ often implies. Lovely spacious clean room with great view. Lots of choice at breakfast. Friendly staff on reception.
This is our second stay at this hotel and didn't disappoint. All the staff couldn't do enough for you and all happy faces. The view from the room was amazing. Breakfast is lovely with a good choice for everyone. The rooms are kept spotless. From the hotel you can walk into Funchal or 2 euro for a bus outside the hotel. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Will be back next year.
Great location and view of the ocean. Nice outdoor pool and easy access to chairs and umbrellas. Breakfast has good selections and variations. Room was spacious and had fantastic balcony with secluded sea view. Will definitely come back.

Lovely hotel in a great location just minutes walk from the old town with its restaurants and bars. We booked a Garden View room and got almost a suite with 3 sitting areas plus a balcony. The lady at the reception (Ana) was friendly and polite, the rest of staff I could not see any smile on their faces. The room was clean, housekeeper was polite and friendly, really appreciate her work. The hotel I can imagine long time ago was a luxury hotel but in 2025 I think 4 stars it’s is a bit exaggerate. Our room was on the street side, a bit noisy. The mattress was very comfortable and pillows...
This is a great hotel with friendly staff. They have a good quality, smart restaurant and nice pool. Very nice rooms. Great hotel
It's a smaller boutique type of hotel in a very good location for walking into the centre of Funchal. Lovely gardens, wonderful views. Two terraces overlooking the pool and gardens. Excellent value for money, the location is brilliant in the old part of town, with a short walk to the center of Funchal. Old fashioned style, which I prefer over a modern hotel block any day with beautiful views on Funchal and the sea. A traditional hotel approx half an hour walk to the Old Town but with steep hill so might not suit older person to walk.
Room was spacious with large balcony and had fabulous views of the sea and garden. Room cleaned daily, very comfortable bed & lovely hot shower.

Joes bar on the premises & an English bar across the road...
Very Good on all aspects can not fault anything really enjoyed my stay and food is good thank you will see you again in the near future
Extremely satisfied, it exceeded my expectations!
The room was simple but very clean. The hotel restaurant offered delicious banana swordfish and macaroni. The service, in particular, was outstanding. During check-in, they provided a thorough introduction to the facilities and even personally guided us around, explaining everything (perhaps because the beachfront pool was accessed via the back garden). Wonderful experience and the best hotel during our stay in Madeira. Perfect price and value proposition with a staff who are really customers oriented and friendly. Smaller hotel what is never overcrowded. Nice charming design elements.

love this hotel so much, the staffs are all so friendly and nice.
Worst hotel experience in Madeira, bar none! The room is at most the level of a 200 RMB express hotel in China. We stayed for three days but only provided one bottle of water. On the second day, we asked them to refill the water but they told us to go downstairs and buy it ourselves. I was very confused. We were not given water for one day. The 5 RMB ticket to the Ronaldo Museum was not given. This...
Ronaldo fans' dream comes true
The hotel in Ronaldo's hometown, in order to check in before leaving Portugal, I bought a round-trip low-cost flight, which was not cheap. There was an airport bus when I landed, which was quite convenient. The hotel is barely four stars, with accurate self-positioning. If there is no sentimentality, it can even be considered average
Cool Ronaldo/football themed hotel. Staff were excellent, rooms - modern and quiet. The hotel is about 15-20 mins walk to the city life. You get a free ticket to CR7 museum with your stay (worth €5).
The sea view room I stayed in had a first-class view, many C Ronaldo elements, and was close to the C Ronaldo Museum. The staff was very enthusiastic and helped me solve many problems. It was great!!!

Great overall. Very friendly. Great location for the old town. Would stay again.
hotel staff are very friendly and willing to assist, room is clean and has everything you need. only downside is that there’s no parking available onsite
The food was pretty poor, we forgot our cosmetics in the bathroom and we were never able to get them back
The hotel has friendly staff, an excellent location, a good rooftop restaurant, and a reasonable price.
The room is large, clean and hygienic.
Located in the heart of Funchal. There is a very beautiful park nearby. From the window there is a view of the church. Breakfast buffet is standard, coffee is disgusting. There is a lot of audibility in the room. Everything else is great. I'm happy.

Friendly helpful staff and a good breakfast selection help make up for the fact that the hotel is past its prime. Spacious clean bedroom with balcony had lovely sea view and although functional/adequate, it was a little worn/tired ( eg mattress no longer comfortable). Bathroom again dated but liked bath tub and plentiful hot water & good water pressure. Ok for our short stay needs.
A welcoming place, friendly staff, a good breakfast with a wide selection of tropical fruits, an ocean view, and above all, truly excellent value. It may not be a luxury hotel, but the service is excellent.
Our holiday at the Hotel Escola Funchal in November was amazing in every way. Despite some unique qualities of this hotel (beautiful grounds, unique and charming interior decoration) the stay did not meet my expectations. Room had some maintenance issues and there is no iron or ironing board available for guest use, only a laundry service that requires pre booking.

Just got back today from Maderia. We stayed in Funchal Design Hotel. I cannot rate this hotel enough. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Ido not understand the criticism being given on some reviews, what do they want? The place was exceptionally clean and central to where you need to be / get to. Don't hesitate to book this place you won't regret it.
Due to glitch in the reservation system, the hotel was overbook. We were transported by hotel's shuttle to their other property Hotel Quinta Mirabella. Beautiful hotel with excellent views. Every was perfect there.Little bit further from the centre of Funchal, but the hotel provided the shuttle few times per day. There was also bus stop around the corner - very convenient .

We had read previous reviews so kind of knew what to expect this is my feedback. We stayed in 102 and 104, noise from the loose road grid outside was awful! It is a very busy road.
