Arrived here a week ago. Upon entering our room we noticed that the air conditioning wasn’t working so we were moved a bit further up the corridor to a suite. The rooms were very clean & comfortable but there was no tea or coffee making facilities. We also had to ask at reception for a key to the safe.
We had dinner a couple of nights in the restaurant but the service was really slow. We waited well over 30 minutes for 2 salads & 2 glasses of wine.
The breakfast was ok, but very bland.
The views from the hotel were amazing & the staff were very nice but I certainly wouldn’t rate it as a 4 star hotel.
There was no TUI Rep either which would have been helpful.
The hotel was a 15 minute drive from the airport & the drive into the centre of Funchal
was around 10 minutes. We usually went by Uber. There is a regular bus service with a bus stop right outside the hotel but the hotel
also runs a courtesy bus although this doesn’t run at the weekends.
Disappointed that the hotel wasn’t quite what we expected but the main thing was that it was clean & comfortable.

This is a great hotel to stay in if you are looking for somewhere close to the airport/city. The views are amazing from all areas of the hotel and it’s clean! The rooms are practical for what you need and there is a supermarket about 5 minutes away in the car for everything you would need. They run a shuttle service through the week and there is also a local bus that stops outside the hotel. We used bolt to get in and out of the city and it was never more than €8 per trip.
The pool bar was open every day although can be a bit pricey for what you are looking for at times. The pool area is always pretty quiet no rush for sunbeds as people are often out exploring. The pool did look a little dirty on some days more than others but we just avoided going in.
We ate in the restaurant one night just for easiness. The service was incredibly slow even waiting for a glass of wine was about 15-20 minutes and trying to get the staffs attention was difficult but we didn’t mind as we weren’t in a rush to go anywhere. The food was ok. There are a couple of nice restaurants nearby the hotel as well but there are no pavements/safe roads around the hotel so you do have to rely on transport a lot of the time.
We also had breakfast included everyday which was great and always restocked fresh throughout the time period it ran.
Would definitely recommend staying in the hotel.

Hi the positive of this hotel is the staff especially Connie, lovely view of the sea but unfortunately there is a road outside the hotel (see photo) so you could not sit out there because all you could hear was traffic. Swimming pool had green at the bottom in the corners, sunbeds were stained and one ripped, so it looks neglected There is nowhere to dry swimming costumes on balcony, the hotel do provide pool towels. You cannot walk down road as there is no pavements but they have a good bus service to town. They have a bus from the hotel but only in the week and last one from hotel is around 5 Pool bar was not open and if people went into hotel and brought the drinks up to the pool they would still be there the next day. No entertainment except 1 night a week of traditional dancing, but that didn't bother us But as we went into town most night as the food in the hotel was ok (big portions), but expensive and there is more choice in the town. Room was clean apart from makeup on curtain but it was shabby (see pictures), bed comfy. Breakfast was ok, nice bread but pancakes were supermarket so not made fresh in the hotel so little rubbery. this hotel is not a 4 star hotel.

Horrible place would not recommend. Booked for 2 nights and only stayed for one. Bad signal, location not ideal, struggled to find the place even after they sent me location. Wifi did not work, there was no ceiling in the room I stayed in. They only saving grace is the lovely staff members who walked to get me on the freeway. What a horrible experience.

I would not recommend this place and I still struggle to understand how it’s a 4* star hotel.

We were quite lucky as the hotel was nearly empty during our stay so we ended up having the pool and sauna all to ourselves which was nice. However, the bottom of the pool and the filters on the sides need a good cleaning as they were kind of disgusting. The bar on the terrace by the pool was always closed so that was extremely disappointing as we were hoping to have a few drinks by the pool.

Arrived here 23rd December 2024 until 6th January 2025. First of all no sure how rated 4 star hotel, there is no hospitality tray, no water when arriving unless you want to pay 6 euros. No information about things to do. Breakfast not set tables see to yourself and table only cleared once youve left, one thing buffet breakfast had a good selection but was always warm/cold. The information about nearest place for eats/drinks is way further than they say and I would say for most level of fitness a long winding road. There is a bus 39 but very limited and stops from main Funchal at 9.30 pm. There is a hotel courtesy bus 3 times a day but book day before and not on at the weekend or holidays! The pool the area would be nice if they maintained the area, the water freezing so whole fortnight holiday no swimming. In fact never saw any clean up or maintenence of the area. As for Christmas total let down unless you had pre booked for a rather pricey meal, however no information was offered or explained to us. We're told buses and taxi would be running but that wasn't the case. A nice couple who had hired a car took us into town. New Year was same as Christmas nothing for residents who had paid a good price to be here. Was very difficult on our return from the city to even order a drink because we were not part of the gala package! The bar within the restaurant closed every night at 10.30. There was another bar within the hotel that was never open neither was the pool bar although the leaflet said summer hours winter hours so what were we. We had purchased drinks before new year but on that night double the price. The doorman was very abrupt at times. They brought up champagne for those that had paid so we took our own up.The one amazing thing was the view and the firework display was amazing 👏 The cleaners were amazing and looked after your rooms well. I think most that come here are quite content with the lack of facilities. Probably best hire a car but it's like whacky races. We did do some lovely trips. Sorry first time Maderia but won't return well at least not to here.

Lovely hotel with excellent facilities . As it is a little way out of the main town it is quieter . Six of us have just enjoyed a really lovely stay for a week . The food is very nice and the hotel very clean and beautifully managed . The staff are all very friendly and helpful . There is a hotel shuttle bus into town and taxis are easy to arrange . Also local buses stop outside . We asked for the superior rooms with a view and what an amazing view it is too ! We would definitely be happy to recommend . Thank you everyone at the Ocean Gardens for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing . Carolyn York U.K.

It’s a nice clean hotel and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Special mention to Valerie in reception and Barbara in the breakfast room, and of course Louis who regularly drove us into Funchal. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, indeed, the fresh rye bread was lovely. Our room was spacious and immaculate. We had an amazing view from our verandah but my only quibble was not having coffee and tea making facilities. It would also have been nice to have an iron and board in the room and whilst the room information stated laundry was available in an emergency, I didn’t class unpacking and wanting to press clothes before wearing an emergency; no I didn’t ask reception so possibly my bad. We opted for B&B, for which we were glad, as we were very disappointed with the restaurant downstairs which was not good and expensive, so we only ate there twice due to necessity. The hotel is a little out of town, so either hire a car or be prepared to take either the free weekday hotel bus or public transport, both very efficient and

Booked a last minute holiday and was very happy with the choice. Placed in an older room and it was fine. The balcony had amazing views! Breakfasts were excellent and the breakfast staff were exceptionally cheerful and obliging. Had evening meals in the restaurant and they were well cooked and reasonably priced. (Madeiran beef cubes sounds iffy but is the tastiest meal!).
Note there is no tea and coffee making facilities or kettle.

The view is great.
The breakfast is OK.
The service is unfortunately not good at all. The staff don't really make an effort to find a solution.
Our room on the 1st floor facing the sea was constantly vibrating. We tried to sleep but we woke up every 5 minutes. We told reception and asked them to turn it off. But the employee didn't even want to look into what it was...there were no other rooms available...the next day we were told that they would look into it. But the only answer we got was that maybe it was the air conditioning or the refrigerator. We already assured them that both were turned off. We didn't even receive any compensation for a sleepless night...
