A very clean and friendly hotel to stay at. We were in the main building. There are three others. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is very quaint with comfy beds and a continental breakfast. Snacks are available in the afternoon. There is building work going on either side and can occasionally be noisy. It did not spoil our holiday. There are amazing resteraunts . Easy access to taxis and buses. The gardens around the hotel are beautiful. Both pools are clean and warm. Madeira is well worth seeing.

The hotel is quaint, quiet (except for building noise nearby), and in a good location. The gardens are pretty and private but there isn't a lot of privacy from other guests. The reception is old fashioned but functional. The breakfast area is cramped but bright. The rooms are clean but tired. It is more like a b and b instead of a hotel. Have we enjoyed our stay? Yes. Would we stay again? No. Is Maderia beautiful? Yes. Would we stay again? No. The island is FULL of white, elderly couples. And I mean elderly! If you are under 60, do not go to Maderia. Find somewhere younger and funner. Do not hire a car. The roads are crazy. Do use the guided tours, they're friendly and informative and a great way to see the island. Don't stay for longer than a week, tbh 5 days is plenty. Eating out. The restaurants are varied, and the average meal for starter, main and bottle of wine is €85 and up. Over a week this can be expensive.

Absolutely lovely, great rooms, indoor and outdoor pool and jacuzzi, friendly informative staff and great breakfast. Ticked all the boxes for me.

The hotel is a secluded gated little oasis in the heart of Lido, Funchal. This family owned and run hotel is full of charm and character and has the most stunning well cared for almost tropical lush gardens with hidden seating and sunbathing spots in different parts of the grounds. The rooms are large and well furnished with everything you would need, including a sitting area - fridge and balcony or veranda. The hotel provides a characterful bar area and a lovely glass extension used for breakfast dining. The breakfasts are varied and plentiful providing hot and cold options. The hotel service is excellent- it is efficient, the staff clearly care and want their guests to feel well looked after, nothing is too much trouble and if they can they will ! This hotel was recommended to us by a friend and I can understand why and why in turn I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others. You won’t be disappointed.

What a fabulous find this was! Such a little oasis hidden behind a large green door. Three traditional villas, with a modern addition housing a really great indoor pool and additional rooms. All based around the lovely gardens and outdoor pool. Gabriel and the lovely ladies serving the very nice breakfast could not have been more welcoming (our flight was delayed). It feels quite special to be given a key to the gate! Want somewhere to eat in the evening - just a little way up the hill go to Goldi’s and try the scabbard fish with banana (you can get pizza at home!)

Had read mixed reviews about this hotel but our experience was very good. We were in room 53, it was very nice. Separate bedroom, lounge and bathroom. The bathroom had both bath and shower with no sign of mould or damp. A balcony was a good addition, overlooking the garden and pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. The garden was a little oasis in the middle of other high rise hotels. Breakfast was provided with eggs cooked differently each day with bacon, sausage or mushrooms. A continental spread was put on each day too. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

I am ambivalent about writing this review- it may mean there will be fewer opportunities for us to go again. This hotel is utterly amazing in all respects. The garden is a real haven- so many lovely quiet sitting areas- and a lovely outdoor pool. That was a bit cool for us, so we used the stunning indoor pool- with a jacuzzi next to it! The room was so atmospheric- the breakfasts had something for everyone and always beautifully presented and eaten outside or in the lovely conservatory. The hotel is a short bus journey( or a very manageable walk) into Funchal. There are some lovely restaurants both locally and in Funchal. Great stay in a wonderful hotel. Should add all the staff were lovely- nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed here for a week in February/March. It's a very small, friendly hotel made up of three older villas linked by beautiful gardens. There's a small outdoor pool and sunbathing area, and also an indoor pool. The service was great, very friendly, and the buffet breakfast had a good range. Be advised there are steps up and down (but you shouldn't choose Madeira for your holiday if you can't handle steps/hills!). They are older properties, so not modern decoration. Really close to good bus routes into the centre of Funchal, and plenty of great restaurants nearby.

Lovely set of villas set in very pretty grounds. Our room-suite- was excellent, a bit dated but that added to the charm, and was larger than we expected. Staff warm and friendly and kept the place spotless. Rooms cleaned every day inc. N Y day. Excellent bath towels. Breakfast was mostly continental, cheeses, meats, salad, with an option of eggs and bacon or sausage, type of egg differed each day. Offered fruits, yogurt, juices, and delicious breads & cakes as well. Bus stop across the road which was a bonus for ease of getting into Funchal. Hired a car for 2 days and found parking a pain and had to be paid, personally think won’t hire a car next time

Our second stay in this lovely small hotel and we will return! It is furnished in 'traditional' style with wooden and tiled floors and dark wood furniture. We enjoy the lush green garden which surrounds the hotel buildings, mature trees and shrubs, which means there is always somewhere shady to sit. It is very laid back, no rush for a sun bed, whatever time of day we always found somewhere to relax. The outdoor pool was too cold for me but the indoor pool is a good temperature and the jacuzzi is great! Our room was spacious with comfy beds and a balcony overlooking the garden. Breakfast is buffet style with hot and cold options and we could never resist a slice of Madeira cake to finish with! A special mention to all of the staff who made the stay really enjoyable.

We’re just back from the most fantastic 10 nights at this wonderful hotel. A calm garden oasis. Room was large, well appointed and comfortable with a lovely balcony (only thing missing was a light on the balcony and maybe some sun shade). Really nice bathroom and strong shower. Seems recently refurbished. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast with plenty for all tastes including varied egg each day and good fruit. Indoor and outdoor pool both great.

Well, Philippe certainly knows how to feed you. Try the fish , the best selection on Madeira.

Always goog for a laugh, that's if you are broad minded, have eaten here for years and hopefuĺly will be able to do so for years to come, thats if the results of the UK elections don't cock it up.

Obregada.

Pretentious and bad value proposition compared to local alternatives (apparently the prices used to be significantly lower)... waited an hour for the starters which were mediocre and the main course swordfish was overcooked and dry, coffee was capsule based etc., wines were good though, current prices are 50-80 EUR/person/2-3 course meal incl. drinks

Been here several times - brilliant food and run by one of the nicest men you will ever meet. Wednesday is the day to remember as its meat lovers night - booking essential. When we are on holiday here we always look forward to our meals here.
