We stayed for 10 days in February. Loved it. Great location spotlessly clean staff were so helpful and friendly. Maybe evening entertainment could be improved some nights but otherwise couldn’t fault it.

Our 10th year in the Calypso. The hotel refurbishment was amazing, so much changed in such a short time. Downsides: No hot tub, Television in ridiculous dominating position in the bedroom room. Especially, being British there were no channels we could watch, and the link to Netflix didn't work. Miss the bar on the ground floor. There is now only one bar you can actually visit. Really believe a bar should be reinstated.

Hotel is lovely, fabulous room and balcony. Could do with an umbrella but with the wind probably not practical. Spotless and the cleanest general toilets I have ever seen. The bar in the foyer being open more hours. Staff are lovely and friendly and very obliging and obviously enjoy working there. Food fine but could have done with a bit more variety but a lovely break in January.

I so wanted to rate this 5 Stars but for me 5 Stars means it was a faultless holiday which it was not. The positives are. Staff As always Riu staff at the hotel were fantastic especially Juan Jose who went above and beyond in trying to help. Food The quality and variety of food was the high standards expected from the Riu chain. Location With the beach so close the location is perfect going downhill but if you book to go on a trip try and find the short cut via floor 11 to the bus stop at the top of the hill. What went wrong On arrival after using the sink a puddle appeared on the floor, once reported it was fixed but room service must have been aware prior to our arrival. The safe needed resetting twice which was done quickly and no great hardship. The shower pole and shower head fell off the wall. Time to fix was disappointing as it required the shower not to be used while something set. More significantly when reporting it to reception as soon as I said shower the receptionist seemed to know what had happened possible because it has occurred in other rooms. There were three occasions when the lift was unable to be used for floors 5, 8 and 10. No great issue other than on way to room go one floor higher and walk down, when leaving room walk one floor down. Summary overview None of the above spoilt our holiday but considering the hotel has undergone a refurbishment at the end of 2025 I was surprised at the above and the flaking paint everywhere, and trivial things like lift displays not working. If I were the CEO Luis Riu I would be concerned at how easy it was to find these issues so soon after the refurbishment. The final factor for not giving 5 stars is the Riu Calypso is a premium price hotel, if I pay a lot, I expect a lot! Finally About to look at booking for a similar period in 2027, so yes, we would stay again!

After finally getting off the coach from the airport a 2 1/4 hour journey stopping at 10 hotels before ours( thanks TUI), we were checked in quite quickly by a rather rude, abrupt German lady. Our room was nice in a typical Riu way, nice comfy bed, nice bathroom, balcony with 2 sunloungers and 2 chairs, a fridge and tv. Now the confused part, this is a half board hotel which is more or less the same price as a Riu all inclusive, of which we have stayed in many. But its no nicer than an all inclusive, also its a palace, now normally the palace hotels you get extras like coffee shops, optics in your room and a loaded fridge, but this is half board so you don't get that so what makes it a palace??? This hotel in my opinion is directed at the German tourist, the hotel was full of them, as far as we could see we were the only brits. The restaurant was definitely catered towards them. I found no where near as much choice as other Riu hotels we have stayed in. There are NO drinks included with dinner, not even a glass of water you have to order and pay extra. Small bottles of water are 3.20, soft drinks 3.65, beer, Amstel 3.65, Heineken 4.30 and wine starts at 16.45 a bottle. You order from a waiter and it's booked to your room. The pool area was nice with a nice pool, although not very big for the size of hotel. Out the back of the pool down some steps onto the prom and a few more steps down onto the beach where sadly there are no sunloungers ( again I thought this was a Riu Palace ??) The beach is lovely and really long if you like a stroll. We wouldn't return to this hotel again for a few of the reasons above and we found a couple of the staff to be really rude, the lady who checked us in, another dark curly haired lady behind reception who was extremely rude and the worst was Carlos in the restaurant, an example, one night we went down for dinner and Carlos was deep in conversation with another member of staff so we found a table and sat down. We tried to get his attention to get a drink but no joy. So we went and got ourself some soup and came back and again tried and failed to get his attention. So we finished our soups and still no drinks. So my wife went over to him to ask can we please order some drinks and his attitude was terrible, it was like we had inconvenienced him, he was very rude. Now sadly there are no self serve drinks at dinner as you have to pay so you need to order them and they bring them to you. We travel all over to Riu hotels and have done for a number of years, we spend 5 weeks per year in their hotels and so we are Riu Diamond loyalty customers of which we are supposed to get certain extras free, guaranteed, we gave up in this hotel. Riu offer these extras to keep you booking their hotels and we have noticed the last couple of hotels and certainly this one you have to battle reception staff to get what their loyalty programme promises. We are sorry Riu, this is probably the last time we spend money to come to your hotels lo

We have stayed at Calypso several times before. We thought the renovations were excellent and the food selection and all the staff were outstanding.

The hotel itself has been recently refurbished to a very high standard - all the public areas and the rooms are immaculate, including the pool area which had lovely beds & a really nice area to laze around in. The swimming pool was freezing which given its December I was hoping for it to be heated. Only ventured in once my whole stay! The food is super impressive for mass catering - huge range every night of freshly cooked meats & fish, tons of salad, seafood - every type of food you could think of, was soooo good. I would say the whole hotel caters for Germans who were the overwhelming majority guests - I didn’t see or hear one Brit the whole time I was here. All the TV channels are German or Spanish, no UK channels at all- not a big deal for most people but as I was on my own it would have been nice to have something to watch in the evenings. The room was very comfortable, great bed & the shower was phenomenally good! Immaculately clean & serviced daily. Fridge in the room which was handy for chilling water. Huge balcony with 2 sunbeds & chairs. I didn’t experience any of the ‘entertainment’ if there was any - not my bag. The beautiful beach is a 5 second walk, such an incredible place, fabulous walk for miles if you choose. Lovely long promenade (being upgraded atm) leading to bars, shops & cafes. If yr a gym goer there is one, brand new shiny equipment - small but functional - I used it pretty much every day & got to use the machines I wanted to. A great stay with everything you need in my opinion!

Stayed at the RIU Calypso from 26/3 to 9/4 having previously stayed there in March 2022. We were just as happy with our second stay as we were with our first stay. The location is great: on a stunning yellow-sand beach which goes on for miles, an easy walk into both Morro Jable and Jandia along the coastal path, some decent shops to mooch around. There are plenty of sun beds and brollies about 10 minutes walk towards Jandia. We paid 15€ for two beds and a brolly. All the public areas of the hotel were always clean and tidy. The pool, pool area and gardens are well maintained. Staff are friendly, helpful and hard working. Check-in and check-out were easy. Food at both breakfast and evening meal was always plentiful, well presented and well prepared. Lots of freshly cooked fish at evening meal. On our first visit we asked for a high floor and got room 1220, which is about as high as you can get and was overlooking the pool and beach. This time we asked for a high floor and got room 704. This room looks across the hotel’s gardens and small car park to the beach and Morro Jable town. We were more than happy with the location and standard of the room. Entertainment. Overall we enjoyed the evening entertainment, though as someone else mentioned it is a bit ‘Eurovision’ and some was clearly geared to the German guests, but to be fair there are way more of them at this hotel than other nationalities. As another reviewer noted, the hotel is closing in June for several months of refurbishment. Not sure what is being done, but the lifts need attention, as the lift from reception (3rd floor) was having an ‘episode’ while we were there and was out of action for several days. Would we go back? Definitely.

We have just returned from a week's holiday to the Calypso. Check in was quick and efficient with a welcome glass of fizz. Our room on the eighth floor was spotless (as was everywhere else in the hotel), spacious with loads of storage space. When we went out to the (huge) balcony we couldn't believe the view. Wow! The hotel is on a promenade with steps down to the most gorgeous beach. It stretches for miles and is so unspoilt. I miss our morning strolls. We knew this was a mainly German hotel. It wasn't a problem for us, most of them were friendly and polite. There were plenty of sun beds at the pool although, as usual, some were reserved early. We enjoyed the food. There was a large choice at breakfast and dinner. We never had a bad meal. The staff are all friendly and work so hard. We only saw the entertainment a couple of nights. I agree with an earlier reviewer who said it was a bit 'Eurovision'. It was fun though and everyone seemed to enjoy it! There are a few bars and restaurants in Morro Jable. It was busy during the day but quiet at night. Some nights we walked to Jandia, about 10-15 minutes away. It was busier with designer shops and a few bars. We had a lovely, relaxing holiday and would love to return, especially to see the hotel after the refurb.
