Hotel Los Arcos in Retamar

Positive: Didn't have to pay for the room as we were sent there by our airline who cancelled our flight.

Negative: Where do I begin. After printing off in excess of a dozen copies of my passport in error, I obtained the key to my room. While basic, that wasn't a problem for an overnight stay. However, the bathroom smelled like a sewer which even with the door closed was noticeable when laying on my knackered bed which clearly has lost several springs in the mattress. At least it's comfort levels matched that of the "pillows". I will say I haven't seen scratchy blankets since the 1980s - a retro touch. However before the ordeal we endured overnight the restaurant was denied to us as they had a private function, leaving us unable to obtain a decent meal in the deserted town. This function then turned into a loud party that made the building shake from midnight to 3am, followed by loud drunken people outside. Then at 6am the locals started yapping loudly outside.

When finally able to escape this hell hole, I was rudely asked for my passport (which he took multiple copies of the night before) as he had lost them and needed a copy to remain legal.

Awful place. Now I know what a dog must feel like at a rubbish boarding kennel.

Loud reverberating karaoke all night from the hotel itself. Didn’t sleep a wink. Only redeeming feature of this hotel is that you can eventually leave.

The staff is extremely helpful and kind. With that said internet in the rooms are terrible. The surrounding area has nothing of interest. The whole area has flies everywhere, when walking around outside keep your mouth shut, (seriously) this hotels selling point is at its low price point it is easy to get to other places that have something to offer. So in short they're saying they're centrally located. If I had known this and the surrounding conditions I would've sprung for the extra few bucks and stayed by the beach.
