Hotel Ultonia in Girona

The hotel is located in walking distance from the city center in a monumental building built in 1941. The rooms are pretty basic. The beds are hard, but not too hard. The street in front of the hotel is very loud. The hotel is clean. By far the best is the breakfast.

We stay at the hotel (the 3 Star version) on 2 different occasions during our trip and had slightly different experiences each time. We chose this hotel for its location (proximity to the train station & to the old town). The first experience (2 nights) was ok with a clean & comfortable room (with awesome water pressure) - Rm 410 (FYI, the difference between the 3 star and 4 star versions of rooms seems to be location and size of the rooms) but can get noisy with elevator lobby traffic and you can hear other guests in their rooms and in the hallways (which is fairly normal for hotels in general). So have rated this experience a 3/5. The second experience (1 night) was horrible (Rm 510 - FYI the 5th floor is where the bar is). The room was the exact same as the other, except the Rain Shower - shower head did not work - we could live with that), but the noise from the bar patrons after it closed was BRUTAL. With really drunk people yelling and falling down, that seemed to go on well past 2 am (on a Friday night). We did not get any sleep. So would rate this experience 1/5. The next morning, we expressed our frustration to the reception staff and they initially apologized. The duty manager sought us out at the breakfast buffet to gain more information (apparently others had complained, as well). He was very apologetic and worked with us to rectify and compensate us with this negative experience. I would rate this 5/5 - as the management took our complaint very seriously. So overall it's hard to rate our total experience - so 3/5 seems fair. By the way, their breakfast buffet was the best of our 2 week trip in the entire region (6/5)!
