Maison d'Hotes Sanda Beach in Mirissa

Positives: Loved the large room, and the comfortable king size bed. The bathroom was also really large and one of the few places in Sri Lanka with a proper enclosed shower! Tea and coffee facilities were provided and there was a mini fridge in the room too. The ladies preparing and serving breakfast each morning were wonderful and the breakfast super tasty. Negatives: The a/c unit was so old and barely effective. Even after we'd reported the issue with it within the first 2 hours of arriving (temp had dropped from 31°c to 28°c in 2 hours and no lower), nothing was looked at until we returned at 10pm, by which stage it was far too late for anything to be done and we had sleep in another room for the night (with a really loud a/c but at least it worked). The manager was very apologetic about the situation but even after the a/c unit in our room was supposedly "fixed" it was still pretty ineffective unless left on for a great length of time. But wait hang on! They don't want you to do that either, and attach the power card for all the electrics to your room key so when you go out the a/c can't run!! I'm quite happy to adhere to these sorts of requests, if when I then return I have a decent quality a/c until that  starts to cool the room within a matter of minutes rather than hours...  No housekeeping was offered during our 4 night stay either which when you're at a beach location a traipsing sand in everyday is not ideal. The light over the sink which I also reported as not working on the first day was never fixed during our stay, making the bathroom very dark and gloomy. Overall there just seemed to be a general lack of attention to detail and maintenance in what could otherwise be a great hotel.
