Turtle Eco Beach Resort in Matara

I have no idea how but a review from "me" gave only 1* and this was even before I had arrived. The owner asked if I was happy and I said yes the place is amazing. That was when he showed me the bogus review. This review is a much more realistic review. If I return to Mirissa I will definitely be staying at Turtle Eco Beach.

Beautiful oasis close to the beach. Rooms are roomy and clean. The hosts are super friendly and helpful. The pool is kind of special. Very long and slightly narrow. Very fun to swim in.

I stayed at Turtle Evo Beach Dune Resort in August 2023 and had a truly lovely experience. I was the only guest at the time (low season), which made the stay feel extra peaceful and personal.

The location is fantastic — right on the beach, with direct access to the ocean. The current was quite strong during my visit, but swimming was still fun and refreshing. I really enjoyed jogging along the beach road every morning; it's a beautiful area with charming homes and small resorts along the way.

My room was well-equipped and had everything I needed, although it was quite humid. With the AC on, it was comfortable. There were quite a few mosquitoes, but as long as you keep the doors closed, it’s manageable. The semi-outdoor bathroom was a highlight — very beautiful and natural, even though the metal taps were slightly rusted (understandable given the salty sea air).

Breakfast was very good every day, and the staff were kind and attentive. The garden and the rooms could use a bit more maintenance, but again, I understand it was low season.

Right next door is The Doctor’s House — a super cool place with great food and an amazing vibe. Just be aware that it can get a bit loud late at night if you're sensitive to noise.

Overall, Turtle Evo Beach Dune Resort is a beautiful, relaxing spot in southern Sri Lanka. I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a peaceful beachfront stay with character and charm. The surrounding area is great for walking or jogging too — light traffic and lovely scenery.

We returned for a second stay this year and loved it as much as the first time we came in 2016. This a very quirky and beautiful small hotel that consists of a few old village houses that have been refurbished with antique furniture and a lot of taste, inside a lush tropical garden. So every room is different, most have bathrooms and showers outside. And they don't use pesticides or poison so this place brims with life: there are monitor lizards, squirrels, peacocks, monkeys and mongoose, tortoises and bats. But of course also insects. So bring mosquito spray. The French owner is an expert on Banksy and you'll find a lot of artworks on the walls, and he and the Sri Lankan staff are warm-hearted and lovely. And they a pool where you can really do laps. But if you expect "standard hospitality" like in Holiday Inn or Hyatt hotel with TV in the room, starched bed linen and beauty products wrapped in a lot of plastic, this is clearly not the right place for you.

Amazing stay in Madiha! Comfy rooms, icey cold AC, big clean swimming pool and smiling, helpful staff. Great location, maximum 5 minute walk to the beach, turtle snorkeling, surf breaks, bars, restaraunts and cafes. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a great stay!

Very nice location just a 2 minutes walk to the beach. The stuff is very friendly, the room are clean, a bit dark but almost better as the most in Srilanka. The pool is nice and the garden is very cool. We liked it very much.
