Description

May Hotel Istanbul is a three-star hotel constructed in 1982 and renovated in 2010, located in the historic Fatih district. It offers a range of standard rooms, including single, double, and triple options, with daily housekeeping and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. The hotel operates a 24-hour front desk and includes amenities such as a café-restaurant, currency exchange, and car rental services. Guests appreciate the attentive staff and find the hotel suitable for sightseeing and shopping trips. While rooms are described as small and some facilities show signs of wear, the hotel maintains a functional and clean environment suited to budget-conscious travelers. Breakfast is included but basic, typically featuring boiled eggs, sausages, and vegetables. The hotel provides practical conveniences like luggage storage, a safe at reception, and a terrace with city views.

Location

May Hotel Istanbul is situated in Fatih, close to major tourist attractions such as the Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, and Hagia Sophia. It lies approximately 13 km from Istanbul Atatürk Airport and about 344 meters from the sea. The hotel is located near metro and tram stations, though it is positioned on a hill, which may make walking challenging for some visitors. Nearby, you will find several restaurants within 300 meters, including Kor Agop and Akvaryum Restaurant. The hotel street hosts various small factories producing shoes and handbags, contributing to a working neighborhood atmosphere. The proximity to Sultanahmet and the waterfront offers access to restaurants and live music within walking distance.

Tips

  • Expect some uphill walking to reach the hotel from nearby tram and metro stations.
  • Carry some cash for local small purchases as the area has many small factories and shops.
  • If you are sensitive to noise, request a room away from the street side or consider bringing earplugs due to street and factory noise.

Basic hotel. It is located near the major sights. It’s on a hill so difficult to walk to for some people. The area is light industry with small factories in many of the adjacent buildings making shoes and handbags. You just have to walk around delivery guys in the street but a minor issue. Breakfast was included and basic. Over all it’s exactly the hotel for the price and area that I was expecting.

Conveniently located for sightseeing. Metro and tram are nearby. The staff is friendly, the bed is clean, and the breakfast is hearty. The receptionist speaks some Russian.
Cleaning is daily.
The building is located on one side of a busy street, and on the other, there are factories.
If your trip doesn't involve staying in a hotel, this is the perfect option!

On the first day I wanted to run away from this hotel. On the second day we looked at all the advantages and were happy. If you look for bad, you will definitely find it. And these are breakfasts, they are nothing special, no porridge, no variety at all, boiled eggs, vegetables, sausages. This is one of the minuses. Pros: location, industrial area, very close to all the attractions. The heart of Sultanahmet, we walked a lot and everything is nearby, down the embankment with restaurants and live music, up all the attractions. And at first all this shoe production was annoying, in principle we did not know where we were checking in. The rooms, like everywhere else, are small. There was no hot water only on the first day. The room had a balcony, well, we only went out once to take a photo. Would I recommend coming, rather yes than no. I myself would come again. Price-quality ratio. The towel was changed every day. In general, yes, do not let the first day scare you.

The hotel is located quite a distance downhill from the tram station, so it would be quite a pain to get back to the tram. However, it would be more convenient if you could just go up to the tram.
The room is old, but relatively clean. The shower had plenty of hot water and the toilet was clean. There is a refrigerator in the room, but no kettle. However, you can always get hot water by going downstairs.
Also, the room key does not auto-lock; to lock the door, you simply press a button from inside, but at first I struggled to lock it from the outside, trying hard to get it to lock.
I stayed for two nights, and while amenities (shampoo) were provided on both days, towels were not changed.

The window overlooked the street, it was very noisy, close to the embankment and to the main places of interest

Pros: clean bed linen, daily cleaning, clean towels, normal breakfast. The location is close to the Grand Bazaar and the T1 tram. The hotel itself is in a specific area, where in every basement they sew fakes of all sorts of brands. But the atmosphere is great, a real Istanbul. Safe. The sea is a 15-minute walk away.
Cons: the hotel is old, the shower hose leaked when the shower was turned on, there is an unpleasant smell from the drain holes in the shower, good audibility in the rooms. The headboard creaked with every slightest movement. The view from the window at the back of the hotel is terrible, plus pigeons are constantly cooing and seagulls are screaming, in general, I was able to sleep there only because of the wild fatigue after walking 30 thousand steps a day) But the price / quality, the hotel is generally normal.
