Citrus Plaza Hotel in Alanya

We chose this hotel only because of the high rating on Rainbow’s website, which at the time of booking showed 5.4, and according to Rainbow this hotel is rated as a local 4*. We believe we were misled, and that these comments and ratings are pure manipulation. In our opinion, this hotel has no stars at all, as it likely never went through certification, and no stars are displayed anywhere, neither on the signboard nor in the lobby. We have been going on holidays to 4- and 5-star hotels for over 30 years, and it was not our first time in Turkey either, but this was by far the WORST hotel we have ever stayed in. The description claimed the rooms were 30 m², yet in reality we had to spend 2 weeks in a tiny box, barely 20 m² (photo attached), where one could only lie down - literally a hole. The TV in the room had a broken remote control; staff tried to replace the batteries three times, then simply took them away and never returned, which was problematic since the TV had only a Power button,no way to change channels or adjust the volume. We waited two days for the broken safe in the room to be repaired. Only one key card is provided, which also controls the power in the room, meaning every time you leave, the electricity and air conditioning switch off. Coming back from the beach, an excursion, or even dinner, you return to a room overheated by the sun with weak air conditioning. The balcony door could not be locked securely from the inside, which was stressful - we know of cases in Mallorca where thieves entered through balconies at night while guests were asleep. On top of that, the balcony doors were not airtight, so the constant noise of traffic from the busy street below made it impossible to sleep peacefully at night. The food was of the lowest imaginable quality, practically like ready-made canteen food. Frozen fries (and other frozen potato forms) poured from bags straight into oil in front of guests, instant mashed potatoes, raw meat patties cooked on “live cooking” (served the next day in sauce), turkey nuggets floating in a smelly marinade scooped from huge plastic bags onto pans, cold cuts at breakfast were always the same three kinds of mortadella, and pizza topped with mortadella pretending to be salami, or with corn, was their specialty. Main dishes were often cold, meat was dry. Desserts were cheap, artificial-colored cakes, baklava soaked in sugar water instead of honey, etc. I’m not picky, when I was a child I even liked school canteens in communist Poland, but for the first time in my life I found myself walking away three times from a hotel dinner without taking anything. Even vegetable salads were often made from stale vegetables (many variations, but basically endless combinations of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and lettuce, repeating over and over). The wine was the cheapest plonk, barely resembling wine, always served in dirty glasses. There was no sense of elegance, no dress code like long trousers for dinner as in classy
