Location Location Location— We stay almost every year at Portofino bay which finally now after some construction is much better and you can actually get a view vs a blacked out window and view of scaffolding. This year though we chose to mix it up and do the Hard Rock simply for its proximity to the park. Now Portofino and Hard Rock are really two massively different experiences. Portofino is transporting and makes you feel like your in Italy or a theme park version at least.. while Hard Rock feels like a fairly standard large hotel/ resort. The rooms were ok, we stayed in a club room which gives you access to food snacks and free drinks..it was very underwhelming. The club room is very small and the options incredibly limited. I wouldnt pay the pretty big upcharge for club level for just these amenities again.
The hotel room was fine, dated feeling tub shower, but all the standard things you may need in the room. House keeping was excellent and very accommodating.
The Pool was the star of the show in my eyes, my kids loved the pool and water slide and what a fantastic place to decompress after a day at the parks.
Overall its a very good hotel, 5 min walk to Studios, 10 to Islands of Adventure, excellent pool, easy to navigate hotel, good food on property. I would happily stay here again.

We stayed 4 nights this past week and we loved the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and more spacious than we expected (deluxe 2 queen/comes with pull out couch). The pool area is AMAZING. We spent all our free time outside the parks in the pool. The bar at the pool makes great food as well. Everything was convenient and well maintained. No complaints at all.

Everything about this hotel met our needs. Clean, great beds, great service, excellent service. Unfortunately our stay ended on a sour note. Due to a cancelled flight, my son and his wife needed to stay in our room the first night of our visit. Trying to be honest, we let them know at the front desk. They issued them keys and said there would be a $55/person fee for their one night stay. No problem; they turned in their keys the next morning and never entered a park. Upon checkout, there was $110/day charge for the entirety of the stay. When I went to the front desk to clarify, I was told that the charge was for the express passes associated with the stay. This was NOT explained when we got the two extra “keys” for my son and his wife. I presented proof that the two had departed that next morning without entering a park. I went through three levels of management trying to work this out and was met with a hard no each time. I will be opening a credit card dispute for the $330 that was charged without my consent.

Place is great, more of an adult vibe. Families with kids staying there were not distracting at all. The room I had was very nice, but I truthfully expected it to be nicer. The room was like any typical Hilton Garden Inn in terms of "nice". The bed was comfortable which is a plus. Enjoyed having the option to use the water taxi or walk into CityWalk. I held a team meeting at the property and the arrangements for my business meetings were top notch with catering that actually had food that not just looked good but tasted good, also an impeccable service team always present for anything we needed.

Our family enjoyed our stay at this property. AJ was so kind and helpful in getting us checked in and made sure that our son’s birthday celebration was memorable. His customer service is what every employee should strive to achieve. We were assigned room 7010 which is by an exit and the view is a rooftop and a lil bit of the Universal Studios theme park. AJ did tell me that he wishes he could select the room for the guests but that the system does not allow them to do that. If I had a choice that room is not in a great viewing area and not an ideal location on their property and you have to walk a long way to get to the lounge and elevators. Also to get some ice for your drinks was extremely far away. They only have 1 ice machine on the 7th floor. The property is conveniently located right beside Universal Studios so it was nice to just walk over to the theme park when we went. It took us less than 10 minutes. The club lounge area was always stocked and clean for the guests. The bartender on this floor was very kind and friendly. The different musicians displays throughout the property was cool to see!

I think this hotel is pretty good. The room is clean and tidy, and the staff is warm and friendly. It is very convenient to take the boat to and from Universal Studios, and the room card is the Universal Express Pass. I didn't have high expectations because the ratings were not high, but I felt it was pretty good after staying there.

I am giving only one star because I don't have an option for one. My son brought me to Hard Rock Universal to celebrate my birthday and the experience for this hotel was AWESOME! Unfortunately I can't say the same for The Kitchen, its restaurant. You see, the hotel surprised me with a birthday cake with a card to also enjoy a treat from this restaurant. So my two sons and I went down to The Kitchen. It was not busy. We told the hostess we had the birthday coupon to redeem. That was a mistake. She then said: But, are you going to have breakfast? I said no. She then asked: Do you want it to go? I answered: No, we'll enjoy it here. She then asked for the coupon and turned around while we stood. I asked: May we sit down? She then pointed to the nearest table. Shortly after we sat a very nice gentleman asked if we had been helped. Later another person brought the brownie with a candle and my sons and I sang me happy birthday.THIRTY MINUTES LATER NOBODY has approached our table, for ANYTHING. REALLY?!? My son would've liked at last a glass of water! Proper service may have enticed us into ordering lunch!! After all we were on celebration mode. A mode that quickly left after being treated like this. The nightly price at this hotel starts at $350. Who's the manager here? This is NOT the way to treat a customer. SHAME ON YOU, THE KITCHEN!! ??

The atmosphere is nice and cool things to look at but found hair in food and there was no attempt to make it right except a smaller portion of the same meal; like they just pulled out the hair and scraped off the top portion. Server charged the wrong cards (2 couples) and did not seem interested in us after we told her we found a hair like she wasn’t expecting a good tip and didn’t care. Portions are small for the price. Gator tail tasted frozen and was rubbery and mushy, like it was not fried and just put into the oven from a freezer bag.
The character dining on Saturday night is cool! We met Bart Simpson and a minion. The presentation of the salads are unique!
Overall, very disappointed for this property. Everything has been great at the Hard Rock hotel except this. Overpriced and not worth it.

Great Dinner and entertainment. Went on a Friday night and the two magicians were wonderful! Meat Loaf, Pot Pie and lots of other homemade favorites. The chocolate cake was moist and amazing.

Got off the road late And barely had time to make our reservation. A very nice meal. The calamari appetizer always perfect, our chicken and waffles were very nice and the dessert was a great finish but...
The highlight of the meal was a delightful server named Valeria who made our meal perfect. A great personality and just the perfect combination of charm, expertise and attention to detail.
