Reviews
The hotel learned that my friend and I were celebrating our birthday together, and they thoughtfully surprised us with a bottle of champagne, a generous charcuterie platter with ham and cheese, and fresh fruit. It was such a lovely and memorable gesture.
The building itself is rich in history and truly reflects New York’s Golden Age. While the architecture is beautifully preserved, the interior facilities fully meet modern standards. There are plenty of USB outlets, the placement of switches and controls is very user-friendly, and both the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Although the hotel is located right in the heart of Times Square, it feels surprisingly peaceful — quiet and calm, with none of the usual noise you’d expect from the city center.
In the evening, we ordered room service for dinner. The burger and steak were both excellent — flavorful and perfectly cooked. Breakfast had a limited selection, but the portions were generous, and the quality and taste were very good.
Overall, a truly special experience. We felt genuinely cared for and would absolutely return. Highly recommended!
Our stay at The Chatwal, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt was absolutely outstanding this is truly where luxury meets comfort and service.
From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The level of attention to detail was incredible even having a butler who ironed our dresses made us feel genuinely cared for. Here, you truly get what you pay for.
Our suite was spacious, spotless, and beautifully maintained, offering a peaceful retreat after long days in the city. Customer service across the entire hotel was exceptional.
A special mention goes to Michael the bellman, who consistently went above and beyond. He always greeted us with a friendly smile, opened doors, assisted us promptly, and made sure we were taken care of at all times.
The restaurant was amazing every dish was outstanding and truly felt out of this world. The overall environment of the hotel was not only immaculately clean, but also beautifully decorated, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
After all the walking around the city, the indoor pool and hot tub were exactly what we needed a perfect way to unwind and recharge.
I highly recommend The Chatwal to anyone visiting New York City who wants to experience luxury, comfort, and exceptional service. If you want to be treated like royalty, this is the place to stay.
After another 30 minutes I was fed up and asked to speak to the manager. I was angry and could have handled it better but basically the Manager's message was it wasn't their fault because of an arrangement with American Express leading to lots of late checkouts. He was condescending and indifferent and unapologetic from the start (which is why I got angry). We got our room about 15 minutes later.
By then we had to rush to make our 6:30 reservation at the restaurant in the hotel, I forget the name of the restaurant. Except we didn't have to rush because we had to wait another 15 minutes to get seated. Since the show was at 8 pm we rushed through dinner (the food wasn't great anyway, presented well but cold and blah). Couldn't wait to get out of there anyway so didn't really care at that point. It was clear this place was not good and I wanted to just go and enjoy the show.
Checkout was uneventful. Room was clean. Valet was terrific both on arrival and leaving. Really the only issue was a completely unpleasant check in. The woman wasn't rude, just absolutely incompetent in that situation. The real issue was the awful Manager who made the situation much worse with his attitude and indifference and frankly cluelessness. Add to that a rushed and very subpar meal at a restaurant and I pretty much had a fully formed opinion of the Chatwal. I can't see trusting anything with the Chatwal name on it again.
I'm not usually this harsh but what can I say, it was really that bad of an experience. There are plenty of other options in the city, I recommend avoiding the Chatwal.
The pool was a major disappointment — it was extremely small, roughly 5 by 8 feet, more of a decorative plunge than an actual swimming pool. The steam room wasn’t a true spa-style experience either; it was more like a basic steam shower setup. These amenities were a far cry from what was portrayed online.
The room itself was fine, though it faced a surrounding building and had no natural light whatsoever, giving it a rather closed-in feel. The bathroom, on the other hand, was the highlight — a beautiful black Art Deco design with mirrors all around.
Service was mediocre at best. Several staff members couldn’t answer simple questions, and my bill was incorrect, requiring extra time and effort to resolve.
Even with Hyatt elite status and Amex Platinum benefits, the experience felt like a standard hotel stay, not the high-end $800-per-night experience The Chatwal advertises.
In short, while the décor has its charm, the amenities, service, and value do not justify the price. I would not recommend staying here.
From the start, Layla from Turkmenistan is an excellent example of how to greet and host. Her energy excited me for what was to follow. Staff overall must have 'got the memorandum' because it’s all executed to a tee.
I unfortunately did not get to have their breakfast this time, as I had some outside things planned but I’m sure it’s as good as their dinner. I just cannot find many faults in this place.

Side note; I think they should advertise that they are one of the only hotels in this area with a bidet attachment. There are some countries where this is a way of life!
