Amulet Hotel in Bukhara

Charming & Authentic with Excellent Service & Food

I can’t recommend a stay with Akmal & his staff more highly! The hotel is a small converted madrasah, but with far more charm than any other we stayed at in Uzbekistan. While it’s not fancy, the decor is thoughtfully authentic with Suzani bedspreads, lovely Uzbek rugs, and traditional furniture. It’s also exceptionally clean. Plus, it’s been updated with most mod cons—plenty of outlets, decent WiFi, well-appointed bathrooms, fantastic AC & a misting system that makes eating breakfast in the picturesque courtyard a delight—even in August. The location is also fabulous, just a short walk from Lyabi Khause. BUT the real stars of the show are the service & the food. I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of Uzbek cuisine. But, without fail, Amulet’s breakfasts were absolutely delicious—with daily variety & table service instead of the blah buffets we experienced everywhere else. They also have a restaurant with a garden across the street where we ate most of our other meals because the food, service & ambiance were so good as well. (Try the semi-sweet pomegranate wine from Fergana!) Their laundry & maid service was swift & much less expensive than we paid elsewhere. Plus, Akmal arranged the most authentic experience of our trip for me at a 600-yr-old hammam. But the most amazing example of their impeccable service was, when we had to leave at 4:30am to catch a train, they not only got up to help us without being asked, but had also prepared us a wonderful breakfast to take on the train—and wouldn’t even let us pay for it. Oh, and Akmal speaks impeccable English. Several of our fellow guests were single women—while I wasn’t traveling alone this time, I would’ve felt perfectly safe & comfortable if I had been. One last thing, the Amulet just hasn’t kept up their website & the contact info on it’s wrong. So, if you want to arrange anything in advance, you need to contact them thru TripAdvisor.

Beautiful accomodation inside an old madrassa. The rooms and bathrooms are clean. The service is 10/10.

Lovely historic building converted into hotel. Cozy rooms with comfortable beds, strong air-conditioning (to beat harsh summer temperatures) and big bathroom. Everything impeccably clean. Delicious, carefully prepared breakfast. Despite being steps away from the city hot-spot, its extra thick walls grant a quiet and relaxing indoor environment.

Great location just steps from the historical pedestrian center of Bukhara. I had been willing to book this on our previous trips, but never could get availability and this time we finally stayed here as many of our friends recommended. The laundry service was very useful for us in the middle of our trip across Uzbekistan with very reasonable prices and quality within the same day. The rooms are big and comfortable with very big bathroom. We had 3 rooms and all were clean and had everything we needed. The inner yard was well kept and comfortable to have breakfast in. Most of the staff were very helpful and accommodating. The choice of breakfast was varied and changed daily.

Despite most of the staff were very welcoming and helpful, only one reception person (Mirhon?) was sort of always upset with out presence or any questions. He checked us in when we arrived late evening and did not bother to offer help with the luggage or else. To make it worse he warned us not to come back later than midnight as he would close the main doors and "will got to sleep" so we would not be able to get back inside the hotel. This sounded very unusual for us. The next days he always seemed rather unhappy of being there.

No espresso or cappuccino option for breakfast but only instant coffee that should be improved even if extra charges applied.

Despite these minor things we still would recommend to stay here.

Amulet Hotel had an old world charm, with the decoration and the structure of the hotel. The room was very comfortable, and the staff was extremely courteous. What we enjoyed the most was the breakfast - we we seated in traditional Uzbek style dining and were served with plates and plates of yummy Uzbek food. The baklava particularly was to die for. It's also a great location just a 2 minute walk from Lyabi Khauz, which is the main area in Bukhara. Recommend this for anyone visiting Bukhara
