Atmosphere: The hotel's greenery is absolutely beautiful. The best part about staying here is definitely the comfort of being surrounded by nature.

Service: It was a bit frustrating that check-in wasn't until around 3:30 PM on a weekday. There were very few seats in the lobby for guests waiting, maybe only about ten, with the rest being in paid areas. We were told we could go to the second floor, but it was inconvenient for our group of elderly people to keep moving around.

Facilities: Breakfast was decent; the butter cake and pork chop bun were delicious, but they weren't available the next day. I tried the Wagyu bun, which had a strong, unpleasant fishy taste. We booked a business twin room in Building 7. The room facilities were pretty standard. It rained both days we were there, and the room had a strong musty smell. The bathroom only had a bathtub, no separate shower, and the toilet was a standard one without a bidet seat. The beds were quite short, which might be uncomfortable for taller guests.

This hotel is indeed a gem tucked amidst the skyscrapers in Shanghai. It is a State Guesthouse that is open to the public for booking only when there are no visiting dignitaries. The experience is indeed a privilege. They service staff there are a whole new level; they are definitely part of the Foreign Service not just the usual hotel staff.

Garden Hotel, comfortable and pleasant. It was quiet both day and night, so I had a great rest. Parking was convenient, and breakfast was abundant. The decor was unique, with copper strips embedded in the doors and windows of the rooms, lobby, and other areas, giving it an elegant and luxurious feel. Staying at Xijiao Hotel in Shanghai left a wonderful impression.

We had a wonderful three-night stay. The hotel is incredibly well-maintained, and you can tell a lot of care goes into running it. The lush greenery, vibrant flowers, manicured lawns, peacocks, and swans create a beautiful, spring-like atmosphere that truly brightens your day as you wander around. The shuttle service was quick and convenient. My parents were so happy they're still talking about it now that we're home. We hope to return in the spring or autumn.

I especially want to highlight the breakfast. This was the most satisfying part – a wide variety of options, promptly refilled, and authentically delicious. The Cifangao (fried sticky rice cake) was particularly good, and the blueberry cheese soda crackers were also tasty. The service was excellent; they were very accommodating and attentive to my parents. My mom even said the breakfast deserves a six-star review! We hope the quality is maintained, as we plan to visit every year.

The dishes at the overwater restaurant could use some improvement in flavor; there's room for enhancement there.

The environment is fantastic, with a very upscale and well-maintained garden. However, as the hotel is open to the public, it can get quite crowded, so privacy isn't the best.

The room size isn't huge, but it's very luxurious and clean. The bed and slippers were incredibly comfortable, allowing me to get a great night's sleep.

Breakfast was also pretty good. You can make your own freshly squeezed juice, and the wontons and mini burgers were delicious.

The only downside was the service. Most of the staff were decent, but not exceptionally good. However, I had a very unpleasant encounter with someone who claimed to be a manager while I was walking in the garden. Their attitude was terrible, as if they treated guests like their subordinates, which significantly detracted from my stay.

Compared to Dongjiao, it's a bit older. Also, ordering takeout isn't very convenient here. However, the environment is great, the air is fresh, and it's quiet and comfortable for a stay, making it suitable for older guests seeking a peaceful and relaxing retreat.

This used to be our go-to hotel for a few nights every year with the family, but this time was quite unpleasant.

1. The bathtub in the room wasn't cleaned properly.
2. I put my dirty laundry in the disposable laundry bag provided in the room, intending to take it with me. Housekeeping told me the front desk would charge me 20 RMB for it. I don't know if that's true, but it seems very unreasonable. What are guests supposed to use for their dirty clothes then?
3. Even as a hotel guest, are you not allowed to sit in the lobby? I just went to check in, and my family sat there to wait for me for a moment, only to be told to leave. For a state guesthouse, that seems a bit tacky. If the lobby seats aren't for guests who are checking in, who are they for? Is your coffee more expensive than the cost of a night's stay? It feels like priorities are completely backwards, and the management is lacking. It's very disappointing for a loyal customer.
4. The buffet at Mudan Pavilion was very uncomfortable. Before, it was a self-service style, which was much more free. Now, things like sashimi have to be ordered and brought to you. I had one piece of tuna, and when I tried to order more, they said they were out... and the price was even higher than before.

Compared to before, it's become stingy and petty. Where's the prestige of a state guesthouse? I hope for improvements so that more local guests like us will give it a thumbs up and want to return again and again.

The old and new staff at the front desk, and the drivers, were still as polite as ever.

For the Qingming holiday, I originally planned to relax in the suburbs of Shanghai, and then the Xijiao Hotel popped into my mind. I quickly booked a room and took my family for an outing. We drove into the hotel grounds, and the lush gardens, blooming flowers, small bridges, flowing water, and green lawns immediately greeted us. It felt like we made the right choice. It took us about three to five minutes to drive from the entrance to Building 7, the main lobby. Along the way, we saw gardeners maintaining the foliage, and guests and visitors were all taking photos. We arrived around 3 PM, and there were already quite a few people checking in. We waited a bit, got our room cards, and the attendant who escorted us was very enthusiastic, explaining everything we needed to know. It made us feel incredibly welcome and at home. We booked a business twin room, and it had a lovely view of the hotel's landscaping. A robot even delivered freshly squeezed orange juice to our room, which was such a thoughtful touch! They also gave us feed bags for the animals, which included peacocks, red-crowned cranes, and black and white swans. The back garden could be accessed directly with our room card, and there was a pavilion in the middle of the lake where we could relax – it was very pleasant. In the evening, they delivered special wontons to our room, and there was a turndown service before bed, which was very cozy. The breakfast buffet in the morning was incredibly rich and delicious. We spent over two hours eating and enjoying the outdoor scenery. We'll definitely be back!

The room was excellent, and the shower was newly installed with great water pressure. The garden environment was top-notch, with private areas accessible only to guests, in addition to the open public spaces. Breakfast was abundant, and the service was superb.

Shanghai Xijiao State Guest Hotel – I initially thought it was in the far western suburbs of Shanghai, but a quick check on the map showed it was actually east of Hongqiao Airport, which just goes to show how remote the airport itself is. The environment and service, however, were absolutely top-notch; I truly felt at home. The rooms have a grand, old-money aesthetic, somewhat reminiscent of the St. Regis in Sanya. The courtyard even has several peacocks and cranes roaming around, plus a small garden perfect for a stroll and some fresh air. It was a shame I visited outside of flowering season, so I missed out on the blooming flowers. Upon check-in, we were given complimentary fruit and snacks, along with freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly made wontons. They called them 'xiaohuntun' (small wontons), but they were actually large wontons filled with vegetables and meat – one bowl was practically a meal in itself! The kids were thrilled with the mini breadsticks provided for feeding the ducks and geese. Breakfast isn't included in the room rate and isn't cheap, but it's not bad either, featuring made-to-order mini hot dogs and Eggs Benedict. Overall, I was quite satisfied. The service was also excellent, with handsome male staff and beautiful female staff who were always ready to assist. As an established hotel, the service here is far superior to that of the Fragrant Hills Hotel in Beijing. My only minor gripe was when I tried to call the restaurant to book a table – I couldn't get through to the dining department, and the staff member I spoke to simply told me to try again, which felt a bit unthoughtful. If you call a Waldorf Astoria hotel to book a table and can't get through, they'll usually take your contact details and call you back when it's convenient. Refining such details in service could lead to even better customer experiences, and I hope they can improve on this.
