Reviews
🏨 Room Experience
The river view room offered an absolutely stunning vista. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, I could see the Huangpu River and the Lujiazui skyline. Watching the lights illuminate along both banks in the evening created an incredibly immersive atmosphere.
The oversized bathtub in the bathroom faced the river, allowing me to soak and enjoy the night view – a rare and truly relaxing experience.
🍴 Dining Highlights
The breakfast and afternoon tea at the executive lounge were both high-quality. The freshly baked baguettes had a rich wheaty aroma, and the exquisite pastries and fresh-squeezed juices brought immense joy.
Linda, a staff member at the lounge, provided exceptionally thoughtful service. She noticed I liked sparkling water and proactively refilled my glass, also kindly informing me about the day's special dishes and flavors. She made me feel like I was talking to a friend.
💁 Service Details
The entire hotel service team was highly professional, and Linda stood out as truly exceptional. From her attentive care during meals to her detailed reminders at check-out, her warmth and thoughtfulness added an extra layer of comfort to this trip.
Next time I visit Shanghai, the Mandarin Oriental will definitely remain my top choice, and I'll be sure to say hello to Linda again!
It would have been a five-star review, but there was an incident that my family told me about later. We booked multiple rooms, and since I woke up late, I didn't join them for breakfast. When they went, they gave the wrong room number. I understand the need for operational management, but the process was disrespectful and the system was rigid and outdated. One staff member in the restaurant repeatedly questioned my family, implying they didn't have a room with breakfast included (we had many people, but I had paid for everyone's breakfast, and we weren't over the limit). Even if there wasn't a machine to verify if the room card included breakfast, why didn't the staff proactively contact the front desk to confirm instead of bothering the guests? Our IDs were registered; don't they have that basic common sense? Furthermore, we had paid deposits, so were they really worried about guests eating and running? It's quite speechless. Can this be interpreted as a form of discrimination?
I can tell the hotel is making a serious effort with its service, but one bad apple spoils the bunch!
Concierge: Every single one was highly dedicated.
Front Desk and passing managers also made me feel very welcome.
Spa: From reception to the massage itself, everything was of a high standard.
Whether for a holiday or business trip, I consistently choose Mandarin Oriental. It's a very quiet and high-quality hotel.
Facilities: While maintaining its classic five-star charm, the hotel has also kept up with the times. The room has everything you need, and the bedding is incredibly comfortable. The gym is well-equipped, perfect for a workout while traveling.
Hygiene: Excellent. Even the bathtub was spotless.
Environment: The location is great. You can step right out onto the lakeside promenade for a walk, and there's a mall nearby for dining convenience.
Service: Very thoughtful and responsive.
During our stay, we encountered a few small issues in the room, but after reporting them, the staff responded immediately and resolved everything very efficiently. We were truly impressed by their positive attitude and excellent service, especially Joy and the duty manager. A big thank you to them for their great support and coordination, which made our stay even more pleasant and stress-free.
The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of choices to suit different tastes. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and if we visit Shanghai again, this hotel will definitely be our first choice.
