Myriama Apartments in Ayia Napa

Good location, great price and helpful hosts, however there are issues, including noise, cleaning and hot water. Myriama is located on a on an active road leading up from the coastal road to the main party area of Ayia Napa about half a mile from the centre of Napa and the nearest beach, with only a few steps to the first bars and clubs of the clubbing area. We are a couple aged about 60 and stayed from late October 23 to mid-January 24. The noise from the bars and clubs steadily decreased during the first part our stay, and although audible during the early hours of the morning was not too loud to prevent sleep. However, the intensity of the church bells (which play a tune) and the chanting of the priests increased from occasional to almost daily. The bells and chanting usually started about 6:30 and are broadcast from loudspeakers at the church only about 100 meters away. There is also a block next door that appears to consist mainly of single young men, they can be noisy and loud at very unsociable times, regularly at around 3am deciding to chat very loudly outside the block, loud enough to wake you up, not to mention the occasional party that went on until the very early hours. However, this again did decrease later in our stay apparently after the police attended. The road can also be noisy, whilst not busy there are regularly noisy motorbikes/cars/vans/trucks up and down the road, sometimes heavy loud pedestrian traffic and the dustcart that normally empties the bins overnight! The accommodation is fairly basic. We were in room 10 with a balcony but no oven and only two hot plates, however most of the other rooms appeared to have an oven. The room consisted of a bedroom, lounge/diner/kitchenette and bathroom. The kitchenette was basic but sufficient for a holiday. The bedroom with access to the balcony was ok. The bathroom was again ok, the shower fitting was what can best be described as at an odd angle. The lounge also had access to the balcony and consisted of a sofa bed and a single bed, neither of which were particularly comfortable for lounging on or watching TV. The free Wi-Fi was hit and miss, not too bad for emails etc, but often not stable enough for streaming TV etc. Hot water or lack of, was a bit of an issue as the temperature dropped during our stay and the solar not working efficiently, with us having to ask for the hot water to be turned on several times. Cleaning during the winter also needs to be mentioned. Apparently during the summer rooms are cleaned every three days, however for long stays over the winter this decreases to every two weeks, which is probably not often enough. Finally, if you wish to use the A/C or heating it is charged at eight euros a day or fifty odd per week. However, all the above should be balanced against the price which was very competitive to say the least and the owners who were friendly and always willing to help.
