Tsokkos Gardens Hotel in Protaras

We stayed for a week in October. We did have a lovely holiday, it was still 28 deg every day. Location - lovely walks to the beaches which are bays with clear calm and warm sea not too busy, shops , restaurants nearby. Rooms - basic, clean and comfortable however when we first arrived we were put in a room next to the lift and the lift made a loud bing bong noise when the doors opened - surly this can be switched off, it woke us up a few times on the first night. Room also had adjoining doors which should be for families to share and in the morning we could hear everything the people in the room next to us were saying! And we also found that the doors to the next room were not even locked! It’s really unfair to place people That are not together! in two rooms with a door inbetween! We did complain and the hotel staff were very helpful and moved us the second night but it shouldn’t have happened! The second room had a pool view and was much better. Pools - main pool is nice and clean and there is a second one which is quieter but always able to get sunbeds and lots of space Access to the water park across the road which was great for kids. Lifeguards always there. Smoking around the pools I think is not acceptable, especially near kids There should be a designated smoking area away from the pool and other guests. Restaurant. - good choice of food, clean, Also snack bar in the day by the pool. Staff - . Reception and restaurant staff friendly and helpful. Bar staff not always friendly, looked like they didn’t want to be there! Most of the staff work really hard there so it’s a bit of a let down when the bar staff don’t make guests feel welcome! Entertainment - disco and then different acts each night or you can go across the road or into main town if you want to stay out later lots of other bars with entertainment. Overall I would say the hotel is good value but I wouldn’t stay there again unless they put in a designated smoking area, stopped the lift noise and ensured the adjoining family rooms were not given to people that don’t know each other to stay in. Also staff need to make quests feel welcome in the bar area.

We have just stayed here on a half board basis for 2 weeks. (We are late 50's) Was a bit dubious after reading the reviews before we arrived, but the rooms were not as bad as I expected. They are dated, and lack finesse, for example - the silicone around the bath is really poorly done and just rubbed over old mouldy stuff and the shower holder didn't hold the shower head properly. We did tighten it and it was ok, but it's just the little things. However, the shower was lovely and powerful and there was plenty of hot water. Mini fridge was a bonus. WiFi and Safe are charged extra, Aircon is included and worked really well. Kettle too in the room. Housekeeping were friendly and helpful if you required anything. Evening dining is utter chaos if you go in before 8 pm, it's quite cramped how the food is set out, and has no flow to it. They had run out of plates on several nights by 7pm. Much quieter around 8pm, but it does look a bit ransacked by then. There is a good choice of food, with themed nights and it's more than adequate if you are not a fussy eater. We upgraded to a pool view on booking, not the best move for us, but everyone is different and this is only my opinion on it. The bar and the speaker from the bar does blast out all day. Even in the evening, the speaker is sat in front of the covered bar area rather than in it, so the whole side of that complex is quite noisy as it is on loud. We like to sit on the balcony in the evening, so it did spoil it for us with regard to this, plus you hear the music from the other hotels too as well. There are rooms on the other side of the building looking over the pool on the apartments which would be quieter. Not sure if these are still classed as pool view, but would be better if you like a quieter evening. Pool area is lovely and big, not a complaint, but the pool was far chillier than we expected as it was quite hot weather still whilst we were there. Some days were busier than others, but you could usually grab a couple of beds in most areas. You can get pool towels free of charge from the indoor pool on the lower ground floor. The hotel is situated in a convenient area, near to the sea front, lots of beautiful beaches. (Sea is beautiful and warmer than pool in October!) Lovely well kept promenade, that goes to Protaras and beyond. We didn't arrive until around 10.30pm on our arrival day, but were given a voucher for lunch to use at our convenience which I thought was a great touch. Was also told you can also swap evening meal for lunch, which I thought was a good idea. All in all, it's a good base, great pool area and close to amenities, food and rooms are adequate. We enjoyed our stay, but for us, it was just a far noisier hotel all round than we had hoped for.
