Description

Hotel Monopol City Centre is a three-star hotel built in 1984 and renovated in 2010, offering basic accommodation in Dusseldorf's Stadtbezirk 1-Stadtmitte district. The hotel provides a range of room types including Standard Single, Standard Double, Comfort Single, and Comfort Double rooms. Facilities include free parking, WiFi, a bar, a garden, and 24-hour security. Guests will find amenities like soundproof rooms, designated smoking areas, and services such as laundry, dry cleaning, and a concierge desk. Despite its central location and competitive pricing starting at $85 per night, the hotel has mixed reviews, with many guests noting cleanliness issues and outdated furnishings. The elevator only services up to the 4th floor, requiring guests staying on the 5th floor to use stairs. Pets are allowed on request, and the hotel accepts major credit cards. It may suit travelers needing a short, economical stay but expect modest comfort.

Location

The hotel is situated at Oststrasse 135, in the heart of Dusseldorf's city centre district. It is within walking distance of the Old Town and modern shopping areas. The main train station and metro/tram stops are conveniently close, making access easy. Nearby dining options include highly rated restaurants like Korea House Restaurant and Taiwan Gourmet, both under 200 meters away. The Paradiesstrand beach is about 2.16 kilometers from the hotel. The airport station (QDU) is just 1 kilometer away, facilitating quick transfers to and from air travel.

Tips

  • Request a room on a lower floor to avoid carrying luggage up stairs since the elevator does not reach the 5th floor.
  • Confirm payment methods and any additional fees beforehand to avoid surprise charges.
  • If you are sensitive to noise or smoke, ask specifically for a non-smoking, soundproof room and check WiFi availability at check-in.

The room is a bit small, but overall it's nice!

One can barely call this a hotel. Right outside the entrance, there's an ATM where a homeless person sleeps, and cigarette butts and general grime are a permanent fixture. The windows and facade are visibly dusty and neglected, with no one around to maintain them. The lobby carpet is filthy. The elevator looks like it was built in the late 1800s (no exaggeration!) – it's dirty and only goes up to the 4th floor. If your room is on the 5th floor (there are 5 floors total), you'll be carrying your own luggage. The stairs haven't seen a vacuum cleaner in ages; the dust has definitely been accumulating for a while.

The room reeked of cigarettes and ash. There was broken furniture, dirty windows, and a tiny bathroom with exposed pipes and a constant sewage smell (no extractor fan). The shower tray didn't drain properly, lamps were broken, and bins were dirty. The bed had an incredibly uncomfortable spring mattress. The room's carpet also hadn't been vacuumed in ages, and during my week-long stay (booked by my company), the room was never cleaned. The only 'positive' was that the sheets were white, as was the single towel I had to use for the entire week...

So, I'd strongly advise avoiding this place, even if you're trying to save money. Since the walls are paper-thin, imagine your stay if your neighbors are talking on the phone or watching TV all night! If you manage to find someone at the front desk to ask for a room change or a quick clean, they'll 'diligently make a note of it,' but I guarantee nothing will change! And don't expect a receipt either.

This was a basic place to stay for an exhibition trip. The location is excellent, with both the tram/metro and train station conveniently nearby. Cleanliness was a bit hit-or-miss, and the place had a rather unpolished, 'authentic' feel to it, somewhat reminiscent of a European independent film.

The elevator is very small, so I would rather walk up the stairs with my suitcase. The room I was given was very small at first, and it didn't match the pictures, but after my insistence and the help of Ctrip, they changed the room. Thanks to Ctrip for being online 24 hours a day.

Basic budget hotel but safe and convenient
Very basic hotel, wifi was weak, very limited work space and no power socket by work top. Very convenient for local transport with metro five mins walk. Some great restaurants also 5 mins walk away
