New Haroula in Fira

New Haroula is a small and seemingly beautiful hotel, situated in the city centre of Fira, with everything in a walking distance. However, like one of the comments previously mentioned, that is basically where all the wonders of the hotel end. Hotel on the outside seems really cute, but the moment you step into the lobby, you are greeted with a menagerie of overbearing staff. The receptionist lady was talking to another guest, and as my wife and I were waiting for our turn, she turned to us and greeted us in an offended tone. As we just came off of a boat, we were just wanting to go to our room, and even though the receptionist was aware of the fact (she even said that she understood we were tired), she proceeded to tell us about all of the activities we can purchase extra from them instead of asking our booking agents, for the following 15 minutes. After she listed every and all the tours that they offer, as well as the car rentals, we were finally escorted to our room. The room itself was small, but lovely. Also, on the first look only. The lavatory facility was fine, until we lifted the toilet seat. Underside of the seat was filled with yellow and brown spots, as if it wasn’t cleaned for a long while. The shower would have been fine if not for the curtains, that made more mess then when they weren’t used. To top it all off, as we were tired, neither my wife nor I have noticed an infestation of insects varying from ants to larva spread across the room. Saying that breakfast was lacklustre is an understatement. You can choose between two types of stale toasts, some fruit, a wannabe chocolate spread and a water. Not to mention staff that’s again flying over you like vultures, treating you like you don’t know how to use a coffee machine. The cherry on top was the last day of our stay, or rather the day we were going out of the hotel to Athens, when we received a call at 11:30, that we need to vacate the room, because the check-out was at 12:00, which we were not made aware of until that very moment, especially since we had a pickup planned 3 hours later.

New Haroula was a bad experience. Breakfast was lacking choices and fruits, vegetables and bread were a few days old, but staff will micromanage you if you try to make a toast or a cup of coffee. The hotel is located near the Fira city center but kilometers away from the nearest beach. Staff and service were generally subpar. After trying to sell us on every single excursion Santorini has ever had to offer and seeing we were not interested, things only got worse. Every question we had was scoffed over or got an eyeroll. On our check out day, we recieved a more than rude call from the receptionist half an hour before check out time that we need to vacate the room ASAP and were charged 10€ for the "hotel services that every guest needs to pay" for which we got no receipt.
The room itself was small with a terrace that has a bright white light blasting there the entire night and no way to turn it off which means room doesn't get all dark at any point. The shower was small with a curtain that stops no water from flooding the floor. No "do not disturb" sign for the door but there is an ant infestation going on. You don't need an alarm because housekeeping staff will wake you up right around 7 a.m.
The only good thing about the hotel is a pool that all guests can use for free.

Cleaning staff barge in early in the day without knocking, water is marked up (just go to the market up the hill and around the corner to the left), the shower sprays water everywhere (though that seems typical of hotels here), and the staff seem to think they ought to have control over your comings and goings.
