I generally am a very flexible person when it comes to travelling. But this was not a great choice (it was booked through a tour company as a part of a travel package and I thought I was getting the other hostel, so I didn't have a choice). The entire accommodation experience was terribly inconvenient, I felt like I didn't have all of the information (after looking into their website and reviews) and the location is NOT convenient (about 30 minutes walking to the main shopping area with food options). Definitely a location meant for individuals with vehicles, not those who have to rely on transit or walking when a tourist.

I had trouble finding food options around that would take less than 15 minutes to get to; not too long but it was harder with the temperature and rain. It's helpful that it's a direct pick up for your excursions and the staff was nice. But that was the extent of it being a good accommodation.

After checking in and arriving a little later in the evening, I got to the shared room and discovered they had placed me (a solo female traveller) into a room with 7 men. I was shocked, to say the least because that's not what I had booked and I had seen nowhere on their site that they default to mixed dorms. I also don't know why anywhere would think it's safe to put one woman in a room with so many men (I noticed after I was moved that 2 more men checked into the room, so that would have been me in a room with 9 men). Their reception hours are 9-4 (check in is at 3 so that leaves new arrivals one hour to actually speak to someone) Monday to Friday only, so arriving on the weekend like I did leaves you SOL. I ended up reaching out to my tour company because they were the only resource I had access to at 9pm at night (there's a phone number they post you can use to call, but how you would call if you don't have phone service 🤷‍♀️). My tour company got me moved to another room that night, which I was told was a women's only dorm. They also gave me a new code to use (the old code got me into the building, the new one into the room). The second night I find out they actually just moved me into another mixed situation when a gentleman checked into the room. On top of that, the new code I was given to use stopped working, and no one told me I should be using the old code. It was all very confusing, and not having someone to be able to communicate directly connected to the location made it more difficult.
The shared kitchen space was fine and mostly kept clean and I appreciate their workers doing so much to keep the spaces clean as possible (other guests also did their diligence in this, which was great).
The room was clean for the most part. But it had bugs (or a bug?). I didn't realize this til the day I left. I kept waking up with skin irritation, but couldn't pinpoint it. It wasn't til I was in the shower the morning of my departure that I saw it was a bug bite each time. So I looked and found a little red bug. I was sleeping on the bottom "bunk" (it's just a mattress on the floor) so I'm pretty sure I was its main victim. I hope they raise the bed in some way to make it more difficult for whatever it was that came at me to get to others.
I think my biggest gripe is that their website does not offer fully transparent information regarding their hostel. I've stayed in others before and this was difficult because information was not listed, and as a female traveller it's important for my own safety to be informed as best as I can so I can plan accordingly.
Overall, I would say reconsider your booking here and do your best to be well informed (I tried but clearly I should have dug deeper).

Very clean place far away from the city centre.
The beds have no curtains but they are provided with a little lamp and a plug. Several toilets available and a short front desk opening times. I had left my luggage in the morning and the reception was locked since 4pm so I needed to dial from a foreign nr so I could collect my luggage. The staff was very kind but I would have appreciated more information on closing times.
A very convenient hostel for one night if you go to the airport next morning. No supermarkets, bars, transport in the area. The central bus station is 12-15' walk, when it's not too snowed.

Self check-in did not work, because the correct reference was not provided ahead of time. E-mail with request for help was only answered at 10pm, 3 hours after I sent mine. By then I had moved to another hostel. Owner now refuses to refund.

This hotel is excellent! Even though it has shared bathrooms, they are very convenient and clean. The kitchen is fully equipped, allowing us to make breakfast and simple stir-fries for lunch. We plan to stay here again after returning our rental car.

Best location in the central area, walking distance to most attractions in Reykjavik, and easy access to buses going to Keflavik airport. The private bedroom was overall good, bright room with large window, cabinets, and sound insulated. Although the restrooms are shared with other guests, they're clean and well maintained and easy access from the room. There's also a shared kitchen where guests can cook their meals and eat, which is lovely if you want to socialize a bit during your stay. Reception area is spacious with coffee vending machines.

Everything about this hostel is amazing. I have done memories of the stay, and I wanna go back. The place is spotless, quiet and super comfy. The front desk lady has amazing taste in music and will make you feel right at home. The kitchen was the most eventful place and I made a few friends there. Absolutely loved this place.
