● Center: 1.6 km

Staff, especially receptionists like Anna, are described as extremely helpful and friendly, contributing positively to guests’ stays. Rooms are generally clean and comfortable with strong heating and soundproofing noted by several guests. Breakfast is a simple buffet but considered good value and sufficient to keep guests satisfied until lunch. Guests appreciated the hotel’s location near bus stops and within walking distance to restaurants and shops. Some guests received room upgrades, which they found a pleasant surprise during special occasions. Some rooms are very small, barely fitting luggage and basic furniture, making them feel cramped. Several guests mentioned the lack of hairdryers in rooms, which is inconvenient especially in Iceland’s cold climate. One room had a persistent mildew smell in the bathroom, which affected comfort. Noise from thin walls and door sounds was noted as a disturbance by some guests. The hotel lacks a full restaurant, with only a bar and buffet breakfast available.

The hotel serves a simple continental buffet breakfast and offers packed lunches for purchase. While there is no full restaurant on-site, the bar provides a place to relax. This midscale hotel receives consistently good ratings for cleanliness, amenities, service, and location, making it a functional choice for visitors who plan to explore the Reykjavik area by car or bus.

Location

Located in Hafnarfjordur on Reykjavikurvegur 72, Nordurey Hotel Reykjavik Road is about 6 km from Reykjavik Domestic Airport (RKV). It sits roughly 4.6 km from Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach, a local natural attraction. The Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art, which showcases Icelandic design and crafts, is within 1.7 km. Several dining options are close by, including Palace Chinese Cuisine and OSUSHI sushi restaurant, both within 300 meters. The hotel is also conveniently positioned near public bus stops, providing direct links to Reykjavik city center, though many guests recommend renting a car for easier access to surrounding areas.

Tips

  • If you plan to explore Reykjavik and surrounding areas, renting a car is recommended as public transport, while available, is less convenient.
  • Request your room carefully if traveling with a group to avoid confusion, as some guests had to change rooms upon arrival.
  • Bring your own hairdryer, as the hotel does not provide them, which is important given Iceland’s cold weather.

If you're bringing a school group, make sure they've given you the right rooms - we had to shuffle lots of people around. The rooms are great and the food, especially the fish, is excellent.

The room was clean and comfortable, perfect for two people. The breakfast was good and hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. I would recommend if you plan on renting a car. It is not as convenient when you depend on the public bus and excursion pickups for transportation.

Our original room experienced a pluming issue on the 1st morning. We were moved straight away no problem. Staff on reception primarily Anna were amazing and extremely helpful, and really help us to enjoy our stay in iceland. Breakfast was a simple buffet style but for the price was ample. Would definitely come back and stay again

Lovely little hotel in a great location. Very kindly gave us a lovely upgrade too as we were there to celebrate my 30th!Thank you! Beds are really comfy too.
5 minute walk from several takeaway places & restaurants and a local shop. Easy pickups for Reykjavik Sightseeing day tours too. No restaurant at the hotel but they do a tasty buffet breakfast and have a bar.

We stayed in room 237 and the bathroom smelled like mildew / mold. I think it was coming from the sink. It made the whole room smell. I don’t think it’s healthy to breath in. We had to keep the bathroom door closed so it didn’t stink up the room. The room didn’t come with a hairdryer which is a necessity in Iceland. It’s cold out and wet hair isn’t ideal for cold weather. The free breakfast was good and had a variety of selection. The front desk girl was nice. The heater was strong and kept us warm through the night.

Friendly staff were so good to me. I arrived looking like a train wreck after a 9 hour flight and a few hours at the Blue Lagoon still way earlier than my check-in time (like 4 hours early) and the girl at the desk just wanted to help, no attempt to charge an extra day, nothing like that, she let me in my awesome room, asked if I needed anything and let me be. Thank you so much! You made my trip to Iceland comfortable and I look forward to staying here again.

We were given a very tiny room. Just enough space for a 2 person bed, a desk, a small closet - nothing more. I read a review where a guest said they couldn't open up their suitcase because there was no space. I could see that. Luckily we only had backpacks or we would've had the same problem. The room was reasonably clean. Walls are a bit thin. The opening and shutting of doors were very audible from our room. There's no blow dryer in the bathroom. I would consider this a place just to lay your head. Staff was friendly, check in and out were very quick and easy, and the breakfast the next morning was good. The price is very good compared to other hotels in the area. If you rent a car, it is worth it to stay here then drive to Reykjavik's center to tour around.

Midclass hotel. Very nice and cleaned room. We had a very small room. Excellent staff! Breakfast yoghurt, porridge, bread, cheese, ham, tomatoes, cuecumber... But i longed for omelette. We liked the location of this hotel! Close to everywhere. Busses stopped outside. Restaurants and grocerystores within walkdistance. We rented a car and it was so easy to drive to/from the hotel.

Minimalistic hotel on the outskirts of Reykjavik. Clean and tidy, room is good and bed comfy. Breakfast is continental only and no real complaints. Few little attention to detail points but largely a good place to rest your head. Be mindful though that this 5 miles from downtown Reykjavik and although bus links are very good (bus stop right outside hotel) it will cost you 460kr (£3.50) each way.

Booked through Last Minute, we stayed in Room 302, and our family stayed in 202 and 402 above and below us. Wonderful large rooms in corner positions with floor to ceiling windows. Kitchenette with combination microwave and kettle. Large TV with BBC1, not that we had time to watch that.

Great breakfast which kept you going till way past lunchtime! Packed lunch of a sandwich and juice available to buy for a cost of 5 euros. Or a short walk to the supermarket is recommended for a selection of prepared rolls and sandwiches. Eating out in Iceland, especially on excursions is very expensive and to be honest we didn't have the time to sit and eat, we wanted to explore instead ?

No hairdryer in room, I took a travel one.

All staff have been wonderful.

Make sure that any tour companies do not confuse your hotel with any other hotel by the same name in Iceland....there are 3!!!! I recommended phoning or e-mailing companies prior to pick up. We used Grey Line and Reykjavik Sightseeing ( booked through Get your Guide, Isango and direct ).

Hotel staff at the hotel were all friendly and helpful in our experience.

Think about what you would like to know if you were looking for a review about a place to relax. Please describe in detail what you liked and what you didn't. What would you advise to other guests and to the hotel owner. The more fully you tell about the hotel, the easier it will be for other people to make a choice and they will be very grateful to you!
