Fosshótel Rauðará in Reykjavik

🌍
Reykjavik, Rauðarárstígur 37, Hlidar
● Center: 280 m
🌞 Beach - 2.2 km

Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, helpful, and accommodating, with specific praise for front desk personnel and the warm welcome guests receive. Rooms, especially family and triple rooms, are noted as spacious, clean, and quiet, with some featuring underfloor heating in bathrooms. The hotel’s location is convenient for walking to Reykjavik’s city center, nearby church, and public transportation, with free street parking mentioned. Breakfast is generally well regarded, with a variety of cold options and hot items like bacon, scrambled eggs, and sausages, served from 7:00 to 10:00. Guests appreciate amenities such as free WiFi, express check-in/out, and luggage storage. Some rooms are small with limited space for luggage and outdated furniture, including old beds with springs and small bathrooms with small washbasins. The hotel building is older and could benefit from renovation; some guests described the décor as worn and the overall atmosphere basic. Hot water has a sulfur smell typical of Icelandic water, which some guests found unpleasant for drinking or showering. Customer service experiences are mostly positive but there is at least one report of poor handling of cancellations and refund policies, which may disappoint travelers facing unforeseen changes. Breakfast quality varies, with some guests finding it limited or not worth the cost.

I stayed two nights and accommodations, were both affordable and immaculate. The staff were absolutely amazing. They help you with anything from postcards you need sent out to questions about the city and the best places to eat. The location is also amazing. There was no need to rent a car to see the city. If I could give more than five stars, I would I have stayed at other hotels in Iceland and I cannot say enough about how kind the staff is.

Nice experience. I booked Fosshotel Raudara and Lind for my trip this time. For the same company Fosshotel I experienced two distinct service. This Raudara is a nice one! Thumb up for them. Staff are friendly and helpful!
Rooms are clean, nice breakfast start from 6.30am and with lift.

Fosshotel Lind just opposite this hotel. Staff not friendly and helpful at all, rooms are ok but small toilet.Their breakfast starts from 7am, and they only packed 4 sets of packed breakfast daily if you didn’t inform them before 12pm, there is nothing their staff can do for you.
So if you are considering this Fosshotel Raudara or Lind, definitely go for Fosshotel Raudara!

Triple room right at the end of the corridor of the top floor. Very quiet and spacious room. Clean facilities. Excellent location, within walking distance to town and the church. Free on street parking near hotel.

The smiles of the staff at the counter and restaurant were genuine and lovely, a rare sight in Iceland. Although the hotel was old, it was clean and quiet at night. However, most people in Iceland travel independently, and no matter which hotel you stay in at different times, you'll always hear the sound of someone opening and closing the door (for late-night flights, people chasing the Northern Lights, or people getting up early for a trip). The washbasins were small, which is typical of most hotels in Iceland. I slept very well in this hotel.

An outdated hotel within the Fosshotel group. I had booked a room there for one person, as I didn't have the option to book a room at the Grand Hotel of the same group. Well, I found it quite small for one person. It's difficult to store your suitcase. The furniture is in need of renewal, and the bed has springs.
Therefore, the price of 21000 ISK (with breakfast) was not worth it.
The staff, however, were friendly and helpful.
Otherwise, the hotel is within walking distance of the city center and street parking is free (plus plenty of spaces).

Small rooms, but who wants to stay in their room, except to sleep? Very friendly and accommodating staff. They make you feel like Family! Kristján at the front desk is a real jewel!

Customer service and understanding are completely below standard.

Although it undoubtedly seems like a good hotel, I am extremely disappointed with the behavior of the staff at this establishment. I had to cancel my reservation because, one day before my arrival, I was informed that my flight had been canceled. The airline was no longer allowed to operate due to financial reasons. I was also unable to get a replacement ticket for the same period. Because of my son’s school vacation, I was tied to those specific dates.

There was absolutely no understanding for this situation, and the hotel refused to refund my money. They stated that cancellations were not allowed within two days of arrival. To me, this situation constitutes a clear case of force majeure. I find it very uncustomer-friendly and, frankly, disappointing on a human level to act this way and not even propose a possible compromise.

Overall, I was very satisfied.
1. Location. The church is a 15-minute walk away, the airport bus stop in Reykjavik is a 30-minute walk away, and the airport bus and local group bus stop, Bus Stop 13 - Raðarárstigur, is a 3-minute walk away (not directly in front of the hotel!).
2. Hotel Service. The front desk is 24 hours a day. If you arrive at night, you need to ring the doorbell on the left side of the main entrance. You need to inform the front desk the night before if you want to have your room cleaned. The receptionist seemed distant, but she was actually very helpful and even offered to mail a postcard for me.
3. Food. I didn't order breakfast, but it was basically bread, scrambled eggs, and chickpeas. After ten days of eating there in Norway, I really didn't want to eat anymore... If you want Chinese food, turn right and walk a few steps. There's a Chinese restaurant called "Fan" (Rice). The service is average, but the food is fast and the food is delicious.
4. Room. The room was large and spacious. There was also a refrigerator for refrigerated souvenirs. The hot water, including the shower water, had a sulfur smell, which is normal in a volcanic country. Drinking water needs to be cooled for at least 30 seconds.

The spirit of USA "bar food" cuisine is present, even if the accuracy of the combinations is a near miss. The mac & cheese was gourmet... and the burger topping. This initially seemed odd, until I considered the pulled pork topped burgers or breakfast burgers that are common specials back home. Well done guys!

Very tasty veggy burger. Greasy but amazing fries. 4 star because the restaurant randomly serves me either vegan or vegetarian burger when I order vegetarian. Both are good but one is better than the other. Recommended.

Give this place a try, you might like it. I was a little skeptical about Icelandic BBQ, but trust me, the food is pretty good. 2,395 for 1/2 rack of baby back ribs (big portion) plus well made fries and fennel cole slaw. My barometer is if it tastes good as well as if it's satisfying. This place qualifies both. Oh, I got great service at the bar.
