Hotel Kalpana Palace in Mumbai

I stayed at this hotel last month (11–12 Dec) for one night. Before booking, the staff showed me the room. The staff member switched on the AC and said that it had been started, and informed me that I could press the bell anytime if I needed anything.

However, even after two hours, the room did not cool down. I texted the receptionist regarding this issue but received no response. I did not ring the bell at midnight as I did not want to disturb my sleep.

I somehow spent the night without AC. In the morning at around 04:30 AM, since I had to leave early to catch a train, I pressed the bell 8–9 times to inform them that the room had still not cooled even after the whole night. No one responded. When I stepped out of the room, the outside air was cooler than the room due to early morning weather, confirming that the AC was not working.

I then informed the receptionist that I had been given an AC room that was not functioning properly, even though I had paid for an AC room, and that the service provided was equivalent to a non-AC room. I asked for a refund. He questioned why I had not informed him at night; I explained that I had sent a message but did not call because it was midnight. I told him that outside air is cooler than the room.

He said that if he found the issue to be genuine, he would refund the full amount. I also raised the issue of no response to the bell buzzer. However, he was initially unwilling to accept that the AC was not working. He sent a staff member to check the room and spoke to him over the phone, but still did not fully acknowledge the fault.

At the end of this debate, I was finally given a refund of ₹1,000 from initial payment of ₹4,000.

We stayed at Kalpana Palace Hotel for 8 days. Unfortunately, the rooms were not cleaned properly, and room service management was very poor. In particular, Suresh was quite disrespectful to us. We even found a large tapeworm in the bathroom, and basic amenities were not provided regularly. However, the reception staff were very helpful and kind, which we truly appreciated.

Though nearer to cs t and mumbai central rly. Station but the locality is not good. Service was good.
