Hotel Sporting in Vico Equense

I was on a tour organised by Travelsphere. The stay was arranged by Travelsphere.
Travelsphere advised that the Hotel Sporting is a four star hotel.
Some of the included meals were inedible eg burnt, over-salted canalloni. 1 star.
Coffee at breakfast was barely drinkable, and bearing little resemblance to actual coffee. 1 star.
Toilet paper ½star.
Nowhere near four stars for this hotel.

Visited here for three nights as part of a Travelsphere Grand tour of Italy. Avoid rooms on floor 5 or not sea facing. Rooms on floor 5 have no balconies and the ones at each end which we had are below seating areas on reception level. From early in the morning and late in the evening the noise of chairs continually being moved is extremely loud and annoying in those rooms. Breakfast is basic and evening meal choices limited; we had to say what we were the next evening at the one before. Beer is expensive and only comes in 33cl bottles of which each evening they run out of the most popular. The staff are surely and often unhelpful. The beach is accessible by stairs to a lift to stairs to the beach but costs up €32 per day for non Vico Equense residents i.e. tourists and hotel guests. The best thing here is the location and view from the Naples bay side of the hotel where you can see the islands of Ischia and Procida and Vesuvius. It is 10-12 minutes walk to the station where it costs less than €5 return to Sorrento; the train runs every 30 minutes. The main shopping area is 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
