Merulana Inn Guest House in Rome

Just returned from a stay in Rome and can't say enough about this wonderful property! Great value and very safe location, just a 10-minute walk to the Colosseum, with lots of dining options around.

The rooms are beautiful, clean and well maintained, excellent bathrooms, in-room refrigerator & safe. But the service simply goes above and beyond - the friendly staff helped us solve logistic challenges, arranged airport transfer and more. Plus a beautiful continental breakfast and espresso each morning! Unbeatable for the price.

We absolutely loved our stay at Merulana Inn. It is not a regular hotel but better!

Location: It is on the third floor of a building located very close to the church of Santa Maria Maggiori where you can easily catch several bus lines around the city. It is approximately 5 blocks from Termini train station as well. It is also very close to wonderful restaurants and gelaterias in the safe Monti neighborhood.

Breakfast: it is included and although rather basic for US standards it was plentiful for European standards (and you’re in Europe so adapt!) and the kitchen helpers could not have been nicer. I enjoyed 1 or 2 coffees each morning and never left hungry in the morning. They offer to make your coffee fresh for you.

Room: room was very comfortable. Mattress was on the softer side which I absolutely appreciated. There were many blankets as we were there in the winter but the room had an independent European wall AC/heat unit. The bathroom was very clean with a bidet, deep tub and towel warmer we loved! We also watched news from YouTube on the television and could watch Netflix after logging onto our account. Outlets were conveniently located on each side table of the bed. There was a safe and desk with excellent fast and reliable free WiFi included.

Hosts: Karen and Karina were wonderful hosts. Always there to greet us with a friendly smile and answer all questions we had about transportation or the city. They even had guide books, maps and umbrellas for guests! They played an important role in contributing to a wonderful stay in Rome. The owners should give them a raise because they elevated the inn to another level altogether. Like having a personal concierge!

Accessibility: I am an ambulatory wheelchair user and left my wheelchair behind this trip. However, because reviews about accessibility are always lacking I will include a review. This place is not accessible for anyone wheelchair bound. However, if you can walk some this may be a good place to stay. There are 5 steps after entering the building to reach an elevator and no more steps to manage. The elevator is narrow and would barely fit a transport chair. If you have a foldable wheelchair or stroller it would fit sideways.

Summary: this place is a wonderful choice to explore the city! We will absolutely stay here again! We will miss Rome and seeing Karen or Katrina’s kind smile and greeting each morning and evening!

I just finished my 7 day stay here. The staff is very gracious and helpful. And it has a very nice breakfast offering. It is located within walking distance of many important sights and also conveniently located to many budget friendly eateries and a couple grocery stores. There are refrigerators in every room that makes it easy for storing drinks and snacks. As a woman traveling alone I felt very safe and peaceful in a very busy part of the city. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

The location of the hotel is in a walking distance from the train station which make it convenient for early morning departures, the room was clean and perfect for a good rest.

We stayed here for 3 nights for the first leg of our honeymoon back in Sept and we really enjoyed our stay. The front desk ladies, Lisa and Laura were so pleasant and welcoming - they had a bottle of champagne in our room upon our arrival which was the sweetest touch. Room was nice, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was provided first thing every morning, at one point we were up early before it is normally served and one of the ladies put a few items out for us to grab before heading out. We had great conversations with Lisa while staying there as well. Overall, nice place - there is a small elevator to get up to the inn but no issue with that (it fit two adults and our two checked suitcases) and the building was easy to find from the street. Would stay there again!

Newly renovated, very clean, and the waiters are very polite. It's near the train station, and it's easy to go to the scenic spots. I originally planned to rent a car to go to the scenic spots, but ended up doing it as an infant. The weather was very good, and the street was very comfortable.

Lisa is so nice, there is free breakfast, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to have it, she still prepared for us the day before. it is nice to meet her.
