Hotel Barchetta Excelsior in Como

We had a really nice stay at Hotel Barchetta Excelsior. The location is fantastic—right by the water and close to everything we wanted to see and do. The hotel bar was also a great place to grab a drink and unwind after a day of exploring.

The room was very clean and comfortable, although a little on the small side. The staff was incredibly friendly and gave us some great recommendations for restaurants and things to do around the area. They were also able to accommodate an early check-in, which was a huge plus after our travels.

One thing we really appreciated was how quiet the hotel was. Even though it's in a busy area, we had no trouble relaxing and sleeping well. Overall, it was a great stay, and we'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Como.

This location is perfection with views of the lake to match. Cleanliness outdoors is obvious when you first arrive, carpets outside are clean, windows - spotless and the outdoor furniture inviting and comfortable. The interior is no different, it provides the confidence in ‘attention to detail’.

This hotel is located in the heart of the town square so walking is the perfect means of transport to everything from shopping to eateries, and taking in the beautiful scenery especially the evening mountain views. You can truly spend the whole day in the area. Access to boat tour tickets is right across the street, the funicular access is just a block away.

This quaint hotel compares to many in the 5 star category with the exception of the bed quality, quite uncomfortable. The economical fix would be a high quality mattress topper that now appear in many hotel's of this caliber. The linens are smooth and high quality keeping you temperature controlled. The room amenities are satisfactory (shampoos, lotions etc), it would be a step up to see Italian products from a local source that you are able to see in stores for purchase.

The service received from the front desk, lounge staff and bell staff - all top notch in promo, courteous and interactive.

Lovely location right near the center square. There is a quiet little bar right as you walk inside on the left, and there were restrooms for patrons behind the front desk, up some stairs.

The gentlemen working at the bar were very helpful and spoke excellent English, so there was no confusion on ordering a drink. My friend and I ordered some cocktails to pass the time while we were waiting for our group to gather. There are also tables outside for enjoying some fresh air with your cocktail

Every employee I encountered was very sweet and helpful.

The hotel's quality is obvious. But as a silly American, I came close to booking at the Hilton near Villa Olmo or the Sheraton out in Cernobbio. Forget the hotel chain loyalty points and hear this: If the one-way ferry to Bellagio takes two hours, the carless visitor should not sleep on how conveniently located this is. It's a couple blocks from the train station and Carrefour, in front of the ferry station, bookended by two pharmacies, next to a McDonald's for late night snacks, and close enough to the Como Cathedral that acts as a prominent landmark to find your way back on foot. And for bonus points, it's in the middle of most postcard photos of the city so you can show friends and family right where you stayed. Splurge for the lake view; it's worth it.

We had the Christmas lunch, so we missed the usual fare at the Ristorante Bistro, but it was so much excellent food for the price point. Solid breakfast too.

We stayed three nights in a room advertised for lake view. The actual view is half blocked by a tree. This is very disappointing considering the images at the website. There was a huge bug on bed sheets and blonde hair noted on towels before we started using them. Lastly the hairdryer was broken. After I requested the hairdryer to be replaced, even though the reception staff said they would do it, it just never happened. Air conditioning was unable to be adjusted and the room gets freezing in the evenings.
Overall, it was the worst experiences I have had during my three weeks of travelling in Italy. It was a huge disappointment.

The location is very good, the lake view is beautiful, and the breakfast is also good. This hotel is close to Como lago station, but far from another station, Como S. Giovanni. Please pay attention when buying train tickets from Milan;
It is very close to the cathedral business district and the lake pier, which is convenient for island hopping by boat; the breakfast is also good

The hotel is in a great location, close to the pier. The room was spacious and was upgraded to a lake view room, which was satisfactory.

Nice and considerate staff, kudos to the lady at the front desk who is named Nives. The service is always available, the location is conveniently located. Despite the fact that i had some misgivings regarding the smell of the room (it is okay, but heavily scented somewhat with cleaning products; a pleasant smell of course i can live with but prefer to not have smelled at all), the view here is amazing. Would recommend again for someone who is trying to stay at lake como, a value choice.
