Hotel Colle Etrusco Salivolpi in Castellina in Chianti

We chose this hotel to avoid the high cost of staying in Florence while still being able to visit the city on a day trip — and what a gem it turned out to be. Although the hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the centre of Castellina in Chianti, it was perfect in every way. We stayed in the Country Deluxe room with breakfast included, which had wonderful old-world charm and was beautifully quiet. One of the highlights was being able to sit on the front verandah with a bottle of local wine and cheese and enjoy uninterrupted views across the vineyards opposite the hotel. The staff were exceptional and went out of their way to assist us, helping to organise private transfers to Florence, the Chianti wine region, including a transfer for for the most amazing lunch at the I'Desio Ristorante at Montefiorelle https://www.desiomontefioralle.it/ , and a one-way transfer to Bologna. Breakfast was excellent, with a generous and varied selection each morning. Castellina in Chianti itself is a delight, with a well-stocked grocery store, a pharmacy, and numerous excellent bars and restaurants. We chose to enjoy a Florentine steak at a family-owned restaurant in the village rather than paying inflated prices in Florence, and it certainly did not disappoint. The village also has some lovely, unique gift shops offering thoughtfully made items rather than mass-produced souvenirs. It was a welcome respite after spending a day in Florence with the crowds. We would highly recommend this hotel without hesitation. Just note that the walk back from the village takes about 10 minutes and includes a gentle uphill section.

Friendly staff and walking distance to town

We felt at home it was great, the location was very easy to get around , the staff was friendly, beautiful rooms all clean and comfortable.

We absolutely loved this property and its setting. So many places we visited were overly crowded & this location was perfectly situated in Tuscany between Siena, San Gimignano, and other destinations while providing a refuge from the crowds.

Castellina in Chianti is small, but it has several great restaurants to choose from that are within walking distance of the hotel.

Breakfast was absolutely lovely. Lots of options, with something for everyone.

We loved the historic nature of this property, and the staff has done a wonderful job of modernization while protecting its historical integrity. Would absolutely stay here again!

Beautiful relaxing property. We wish we had more time to stay.

The hotel was lovely and rustic, fantastic views over the Tuscan countryside and a short walk to the village where we enjoyed dinner one night and a wine tasting (from their own vines) the next. Well placed too for a trip to Florence and a relax by the pool was an added bonus.

We were part of a bike tour and they took such good care of us all with smiles and grace. Wonderful breakfast with meats cheeses and even honey from a honeycomb
