The Highlights: Staying at Castello Gargonza was a unique experience. Both the dining room for dinner and the breakfast room were beautiful and full of character. Breakfast was a true highlight—the freshly baked goods each day were amazing, the coffee was wonderful, and the lady cooking and serving was lovely and welcoming. We also spent a beautiful afternoon sitting in the terrace garden soaking up the winter sun and views. It is an incredible place and I feel lucky to have had the chance to stay there. Practical Advice & Improvements: If you are arriving at night, be aware that the grounds are very dark and the terrain is uneven; I highly recommend keeping a torch (flashlight) handy as it can be quite disconcerting. I found the receptionist to be quite cold along with the dinner staff. Like we were annoying them for staying there. For example we had to ask where breakfast was located and there was no fire or candles lit on the second night in the dining room. Strange, as apart from our group there seemed to be only one other couple staying. Given the incredible heritage of the site, it would have been wonderful to be offered a tour or some information regarding the history of the buildings and grounds other than the brief brochure in the room.

We originally booked a single night here on our holiday home hunting trip and ended up staying 5 nights. I’ll start with the staff, who were warmly and efficiently helpful and accommodating. The owner, who is a multi-generational owner is wonderful and pretty much always on site and can always be seen working alongside staff, whether at the exceptional on-site restaurant or in the on site bar or at reception. (If you can — ask about the history of the Castillo and his family — adds even more to the special air about your stay). It’s within reasonable driving distance of other towns and easy to navigate to (note typical mountain narrow lanes and switch backs, but all paved and easy to drive on). Breakfast is included, and lunch and dinner are available on -site. The rooms have a kettle and a small mini-bar. Can’t recommend this highly enough. We will be back.

Wonderful stay
All of the hotel staff did an outstanding job. Our room had everything we needed and the restaurant was great. Breakfast was exceptional. Special shoutout to Neri, the owner, for taking such good care of us.

I had the best experience here. I had come here with a group 22 years ago at age 13. I had wanted to relive and reminisce being at the castle and my experience was just as it was 22 years later at age 35!! I adored the staff and their attention and care to me as a solo traveling female. I felt like they became more than staff during my time, but friends. They showed me the inside of the room I stayed in with my grandparents as a little girl. It was really special to walk though. I always felt safe, even walking around the property at night. I WILL be back sooner rather than (22 years) later. :)

A truly unique and wonderful experience at this amazing property, a 13th century fortified medieval village. Truly gracious and warm hospitality with unique and comfortable rooms throughout the property. The complimentary breakfast is excellent and served in a beautiful breakfast room. The swimming pool is set in a beautiful setting with views of the surrounding area. The restaurant La Torre di Gargonza serves delicious food with good service. We highly recommend a stay in this magical village!

My husband and I stayed for the Scherzo Musical Workshop as guests as my sister was participating. Castello di Gargonza is the most delightful venue. The hospitality was superb and the rooms really comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the setting was so very beautiful

An absolutely magical setting in some of the most beautiful country on earth, hosted by warm, caring people. Excellent accommodations with a fine restaurant on the property. Have a look at the website - (gargonza.it) - it's an honest picture of an incredible restoration. Gargonza is fabulous - I can't wait to return!

Castello di Gargonza is the most enchanting place I have ever stayed. The entire village is beautifully restored but retains traditional charm and artisanship while providing updated amenities like modern plumbing and internet. The views from the village down into the valley are magical and ever-changing.
