Hotel Airone Isola d'Elba in Portoferraio

Let me start by saying that if I could give zero stars, I would. This was the absolute worst stay I’ve ever had in my life. On top of it being extremely hot outside, the temperature in the room would not go down despite the maintenance man “fixing it” 4 times. The wifi didn’t work and we had to use hotspot from a neighbor. We locked the back door and somehow a little girl was able to get into our room. Luckily my husband and I were only talking. Both the front and back door took the both of us to push it for it to fully close. The beach was dirty. Day 2, while we kept the “do not disturb” sign on the front door- a cleaning lady entered through the back door insisting that it was time for her to clean. I tried telling her no thank you, she kept walking further into my room while I was covering myself with a pillow because we had just woken up. She tries to go into the restroom and I tell her my husband is in there. She stands there with me waiting for him to get out to put extra towels and toilet paper. I was absolutely desperate to leave so we ended up finding a different hotel down the road for the rest of our stay. This was the worst part of our honeymoon. We didn't want to waste time fighting with them there so we checked out that morning.

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel, and the overall experience was disappointing.

First of all, do not book through booking if you want decent treatment. The staff treats you very badly if you don’t book directly with them.

We called the hotel to book a room for 2 adults and one child. They told us it was their last room and promised to send us a quotation, which they never did. So, I booked through booking for the same price they had quoted. However, upon arrival, they charged us an additional 150 euros for the child. When trying to book through booking, when I added the kid next to two adults, the site offered us two rooms instead of one larger room. Since the price was the same with the one provided on the phone, I opted for a family room. The hotel staff shouted at us and even threatened to call the police, despite the fact that we paid the exact amount they had quoted over the phone but via booking.

Their website claims to offer a 20% discount on ferry tickets, but when we requested the discount codes, the staff informed us that these were not available for bookings made through booking.

Other experiences:
• Breakfast is fine, but the menu doesn’t change; it’s the same every day.
• The pools are OK, fine for kids. Note that they use salty see water in the pools.
• The beach next to the hotel is filthy. It was unappealing for swimming, and we didn’t see anyone swim there during our stay. It also had a bad smell.
• One particular night, the entire hotel smelled like sewage.

Overall, it was a disappointing stay, particularly because of their discriminitive treatment for Booking guests and we would never return.
